No blood clot. Sure of that. `The lower leg got swollen the other day, thought it had resolved. I haven't been elevating properly where you have your leg higher than your heart so got in bed and am doing that now.
 
So sorry to hear you are having such pain. It can be very frustrating, I know. I hope the weather eases up for you soon. Be sure to rest and elevate it properly. Keep us posted!
 
So sorry Marianne things are not better. The only thing i could do with my 'good' knee when it was bad last week was just the usual ice elevate and medicate. I am sure if you had some support until it gets stronger like crutches or your walker it would be much better. Dosent seem right we have these setbacks. My phyhsio checked for bood clots when I went last week complaining of pain in both knees so I guess for peace of mind you could see your GP. There was a frost here when we woke this morning and it never bodes well this colder weather for our joints. I hope you have a good sleep and feel better today. Get that walker in and give it some support. Let us know how you are later:friends:

At an informed guess, I'd say it was 'split' your quad, not cut it. There's a big difference and the old fashioned 'quad snip' is really only done in complex cases where extra exposure is required. Such cases are very rare. But there are natural planes within the bodies of major muscles like the quads and the surgeon works his way through them. Just because you have more pain than someone else, doesn't mean you have had a quads snip.

Josephine, I don't think that I said that they "snipped" my quad because I had more pain there. I know that they "snipped" my quad because when I was in the hospital and I commented to the doc about the pain there, he told me that they had to cut it. So, I'm sorry that you assumed that I didn't know what I was talking about....but I did. Just because it "rarely" happens, doesn't mean that it does not happen.

Patricia I guess I have 2 threads oooops. I think I must have done that the first week in my drug haze. Posted my progress today on the other one.
I woke up feeling alot better today. Had a good day and was up for most of it, doing things around house. Even hit the grocery story. I hang on the cart like a drunken parakeet. I refuse to sit in the little motor cart. ha! Anyway thanks for checking. So I guess it's true, it was the weather causing my set back starting last Wednesday. Today woke up to beautiful sunshine and even slept till 0900! It just amazes me that the weather can cause such pain and swelling.
 
Marianne, glad you felt better yesterday, and hope you wake up to good weather and no pain, or reduced pain at least. I can't say I notice to much of a difference with weather change, for you living in southern CA, your weather is pretty much the same all the time. If I would react to weather I would be like a yo-yo up and down all the time. In WI, our weather changes at a blink of an eye.:wink:
 
I hang on to the cart like a drunken sailor too. I refuse their offer to help me to the car with my groceries because then I'd have to let go of the cart :)
 
Debbie I wondered about that too, that our weather is always the same, which is mostly is. But we go from dryness to wetness, humidity I should say! And so we still get the barometric changes. It's uncanny how its affecting my (and others my age) joints. When it was bad this last week I could barely close my hands. My ring fingers are doing some weird thing where they won't open up, then the finger snaps open on it's own. Feels icky. Hands still hurting now when close up but not like they were. But I also went back on Celebrex. So we'll see when the rain and cold (60 is cold for us) starts back up.
I used to live in the Tahoe area in the 70s. When I would come home to Long Beach, I would be wearing the same jacket I wore up there, (not down) and I would feel colder down here where it as more damp. It was weird! Going from so cold, the worst was minus 17 while I was there. I was young so no pain when lived up there. Went back to Iowa one March a few years ago and I thought my bones had frozen up and took awhile after getting home to feel thawed out. Curious what others in mild climates say about that!
 
It will be interesting to see how the weather hits my knee next week...it's supposed to snow!!!
 
I know that before surgery the weather played a LARGE part in how my knee felt. As soon as the humidity went up, my knee swelled like crazy. It's been fairly cool to cold here since surgery so I don't know if things have changed since the surgery, but I can totally understand weather creating an issue. In MI, the joke is that if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes because it will change. We can go from 35-75 degrees in one day! I just hope that the surgery helped lower the weather related swelling. Only time will tell...
 
I live in southern California myself. And you are right, its the barometric changes going on that cause our problems. And we have had wierd weather of late. A hot week, then a cold rainy week. We are supposed to have a Thanksgiving in the 70's this year, so hopefully this will be a good week for us.
 
My SIL is visiting and informed me that the weather change affecting joints is psychological.
Who needs Wikipedia when you have a SIL like mine.

Went to hair dresser today. She washed away the gray and blunt cut a little off the bottom. I am definitely not ready for prime time but felt good to get that taken care of today. Still can't be bothered with makeup yet....just getting dressed seems to be all I can manage right now. Baby steps!

There was a thread here a while ago about how weather impacted TKR-post-surgical knees. While meany said that they could feel the weather change, I must admit that I really do not feel a thing. I guess I am lucky in that regard---my knees tell me nothing about the upcoming weather.:)
 
Marianne, I am going to the salon tomorrow too. I don't have too much grey, just a sprinkle here and there, but more of a mousy color I want brightened, so am having that done and cut a bit too. I am a make up person, not alot, but have to have some on every day. I don't think I went too many days without it.
 
Marrianne, it sounds like you are doing great. I am only a few days behind you, but you are way more active than I am. I have gotten out to meet friends for dinner a couple of times and Sunday hubby took me to JCPenney's and one other store. I did pretty good, I did use my walker. I am walking around the house with nothing or my cane. I have put some things in the washing machine and loaded the dishwasher. I can't even think of driving yet, mine is on the right side, don't think I could move quick enough to drive. I can walk and move around ok, but when it comes time for therapy that's a whole different ballgame! By the way, I was born in Long Beach, we moved to TN when I was 3.
 
Well I over did it this afternoon. SIL made snide comment when they came over to "inspect" my turkey. She said "oh I see you cleaned up the living room". I said oh no, I actually didn't". Then she said, "I know" and laughed. She and my bro are staying at my dads until Tuesday. I hate it that I let her spoil my mood.
So of course I went and cleaned the house until my knee was screaming. My oldest son and his girlfriend should get here any time. I'm in bed with ice. I think the ice will keep me from having a set back.
Okay Debbie I'm a make up person too. For some reason I just haven't gotten it going. But sitting in the hair chair today having to look at myself was disturbing.... so bring on the blush/lips and eyeliner tomorrow!
Clover I dont use any assistive devices at all anymore. If I am going to go for a walk, then I might use crutches. But otherwise I just walk and focus on walking evenly without a limp. I am too uncoordinated to use a cane. Oh wait I did use my crutches in Petco and popped into my local nursery and used crutches. I used the walker for about a week, maybe 2? but I kept leaving it at one end of the house!
So tomorrow is my 4 week check up at 5 weeks. Missed last weeks appt due to setback. My daughter is picking me up and driving me because its 35 miles and I think that is too far to drive alone. (right tkr). I hope I can get a copy of my xrays so I can show them off! I have a custom Zimmer because I had a small tumor that needed to be avoided. So I am curious how mine looks compared to the others.

Don't you hate it when people make comments like that?!?! That's why I have told everyone they are not allowed in my house until I am able to do the cleaning. I don't need them judging me. This is my time! I will do my laundry and dishes because they have to be done but don't dare think I am going to get out my dust rag or vacuum just yet. I mean, what do these folks think? :what:
