Marianne, are you able to spend any time in the pool? The pain does raise your BP and the exercise will help lower it. If you aren't sleeping well consistently that will also raise your BP. I was thinking if you could exercise in the water, it would not aggravate your non-TKR knee and it would help with your BP. My non-TKR knee is not as bad as yours from the description but it is definitely not great and does limit my walking. So I can appreciate your dilemma. By shifting your exercise into the pool it might give you more time with it.

Hi everyone! Got to catch up with you all! Saturday hurt my hand so I thought but finally went to urgent care last night and it may be a ganglian cyst. Swollen and oh my is it tender/painful. Hard to type! Luckily its my left hand!
Went back to work Monday, so far so good! Monday at 330 had appt for Synvisc but when got there they hadn't put in my appt so if I hadn't been able to pull out the CARD of proof would have been a problem, then they thought there was an insurance issue about Synvisc, which there wasn't. That office is KOOKOOKAROO!
So had a decent talk with doc when he gave me the synvisc. I will see him again in 3 months at which time we will decide on surgery for left knee. He says I definitely need it. I asked about MRI he said I don't need an MRI to tell me you need replacement, I've seen it in the X-rays. So I felt good about that but issues with quad cutting and all of that continue but now have plenty of time to consult with other surgeons.
Have only had to go a distance at work once in 2 days which was good. Took a golf cart so no problem. Both knees aching tonight so up at 2-3 but have been great during day and able to ice at work. Not so good about putting leg up since it's hard while sitting at computer.
I have missed you all! Getting ready for work, hand and job, sounds bad but took up my time! Love you all and will check some posts now!

Sounds like you have a handle on it all.... Glad to hear the return to work has been okay for you. I am wishing I did not have to .... Oh well I have a month yet.
My daughter has a ganglian cyst. You really didn't need the extra pain.... Missed you too.... take care.

I am so sorry you have hurt your hand but it sounds like the return to work has gone really well. I am so happy about that for you. This was the first week I have been at work and I am actually feeling that my energy is back to what it was pre-surgery. I hope the Synvisc helps!

We've missed you, but I guess you have a good enought excuse for not checking in! :spin: Work and hand will keep the best of us off the streets - or the computer. Glad you got the Synvisc treatment; I've never had an MRI on my knees - they can see bone on bone quite clearly from the x-rays. You have an appointment with Klepper, don't you? There is another ortho wunderkind on the west side that follows the MIS procedure, no bedside manner at all, but I hear his staff is good, but you would be at St. John's in Santa Monica. Probably better off at Cedars.

So glad to hear all went well with your return to work, Marianne! I hope the synvisc gives you some relief until you decide what to do with the other pesky knee. BTW, I had a ganglion cyst removed from my wrist ages ago and, after dealing with a tkr, it's NOTHING. Hope the rest of your week is smooth sailing!

Hi Marianne, glad to hear going back to work is working out! When I sit at my computer at home I put a low footstool under my desk so I can stretch my legs as I work on the computer. When I was working, before My BTKR, I would put a box under my desk for elevation. I hope you get some relief for your hand soon!

Hii Marianne, nice to see you back. Ive been off for a while with one thing and another so havent been in touch a lot. Hope your return to work goes smoothly x

Hi all I mentioned it on other's threads but my wrist was broken afterall. A small bone shaped like a triangle. So choice of brace or cast and I went with the brace. Typing is tricky!
I cancelled Klapper because I would have had to miss another day of work. I had PT after work yesterday and felt really good. Feel stronger. Had an emergency at work with a student and I climbed the stairs "just like a normal person!" It smarted, don't get me wrong but wasn't one of those things with hanging like a drunken parakeet on the rails. I had a mission! Today is Friday, get to rest this weekend, but not horribly sore or anything! So taking 12 weeks off worked really well for me. I think some folks needed another 4 weeks to be really comfortable but I am so glad this worked for me. BECAUSE...I had started watching REALITY shows! I know all about the Dance Moms and Honey Boo Boo! How disgusting! Also I watched the HOME SHOPPING NETWORK and actually bought something in the last few days off last week. i bought this mini steamer and some hangers. Too tired to open the hanger box but the steamer BOILS WATER and the steam only lasts 5 minutes. Now how could you get the wrinkles out of something in 5 minutes? I am going to try it on a shirt and see if it even does get the wrinkles out then I am sending it back. Also they sent me 3 sets of the hangers instead of 1! The above symptoms, watching inane shows and purchasing stuff from the tv is a sign that you better get back to work!
I hope next week goes as well as this week. I am so amazed at KathyH being able to go back so soon after her MUA. We are women, we are strong! Love you all!

Wondered where you were, Marianne and I see we are both back at work now. So sorry to hear of your broken wrist. That's a b*mmer :yikes: Great to hear about you going up the stairs normally. Isn't it fantastic when you do something that is so normal to everyone else?

Aah, shopping channels, they can be soooo addictive. Ray discovered them a few months ago and had a bit of a spurge :heehee: He doesn't buy anything really expensive, but has bought a couple of things that he thought might be useful, but were not at all :umm: I love cardmaking (although have got out of the habit while convalescing with my knee) and it is so easy to get carried away with some of the beautiful items they have on sale. You could end up spending a fortune.

Yes Kathy I was so excited about the stairs. I wanted to shout about it! Stifled myself...
I swear they had a better steamer on the infomercial than they sent to me! Now have to drag all this stuff to the ups store. Stupid me. I hope your hubby didnt' start watching Honey Boo boo. ha!
CArd making supplies are on infomercials? I used to do some rubber stamping but finally gave it up realizing my "art work" was pretty bad.

Oh Marianne, I must have missed it, how did you break your wrist? Hope it isn't too painful.

We don't have Honey Boo Boo here - what a cute name, love it.

I don't do a lot of rubber stamping I must admit, as I don't think my colouring is very good yet. Have spent a small fortune on Copic markers (Ray would have a fit if he knew how much :heehee:). I just love the cutting out and sticking most. I'm still just a kid at heart :heehee:

I'm not a honey Boo Boo fan, have never seen the show, but I have to say I have new found respect for the family on the news that they have set up trusts for the kids where the money goes for college or can't be withdrawn before they are 21. They bought a new Used car, and are staying in their house and maybe doing some needed improvements. Level headed folks thinking about the future given this unexpected windfall. Good for them.

Glad to hear of your success at going back to work. I am back two weeks from now and am pretty apprehensive. I will be almost 12 weeks out then and hope that I see more improvement in the next two weeks in energy and movement than I have in the last few. At least I am teaching and based in one room and not riding herd on a whole school of high school impulsives! You are inspiring me Marianne, thanks.

Hi friends
Well I came down with what I thought was a mild cold Sun/MOnday but yesterday is got worse and last night was miserable, coughing, aching, and bad headache. I had an appt with my PMD this am anyway at 10 so I am covered. Sinus infection? During the night the splint thief comes along and takes it off, last 2 nights then wake up with achy wrist. Considering my clumsiness I probably should of chosen a cast but I was thinking about the itchiness.
I can't believe how sick Shelly got this week and I didn't even realize it. Breaking the wrist/going back to work FT and all those appts after work I've had has really decreased my BoneSmart time. I will catch up this weekend. I am sure sorry to have let anyone down.
My knees have done well this week. Still recovering from the hike on Christmas but doing well. My gait has been normal all week. I hope the left knee doesn't degenerate as time goes on. Synvisc has never helped before but maybe this dose will.
Will try to get caught up!

Marianne, we stayed the night in Santa Rosa last night. High elevation so it was pretty cold there last night. No winds this morning so that is good and the sun is shining. I was just thinking how comfortable this is for me. I sit in the passenger seat and it has an electric foot rest that comes up and I put a pillow on it too, so I can keep my knee elevated as much as I want.
