BossK's recovery thread

So what did you do to prep for a better experience the second time around? I'm taking notes.

It was all attitude, really. I had no idea what to expect the first time, therefore I was terrified going in. Let me tell you, that doesn't make for a fun experience coming out of anesthesia. The second time, I was raring to go. I was lucky that my quadricep didn't go to sleep the second time. I got on my exercises as quickly as I could because I actually could this time.

I am on week 11, and doing well, just busy with summer stuff as much as I can be. I even joined a morning Bootcamp class, and I keep up pretty well with some very modified exercises. Still having that darned IT band rubbing against the lower leg though I seem to be constantly stretching it. Ugh! I can't find the article on here that talked about that friction??

Thanks for the inspiration. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but the quad on this second leg doesn't feel nearly as bad as the first. Could also be that I started the muscle relaxers immediately instead of after suffering for a week.

Almost the same thing here- my first knee the quad went to sleep for almost 5 weeks! The second knee, it was functional from the beginning. And they kept telling me how the second knee was going to be so much worse!

That just goes to show you that even on the same body, no two knees are alike!

Still having aggravation from the IT band. But to my credit, I probably walked 15 miles the last 5 days going to Denver's Comic Con. It's week 12, and I am just DONE with not feeling 100%. My insurance started over, so it's back to PT I go. I hope everyone else is doing well? My hubby and I celebrated #18 on Monday. He just had a hernia repaired, so let's just say I didn't listen to a word of his whining.:)

Wow, it sounds like you are doing great! I did the opposite, my second knee is not going well. I did them 10 weeks apart and "beelzebub" just doesn't want to bend! You give me hope, boot camp, wow!! I look at pictures from last year where I was zip lining which doesn't take that much energy, but I did an intense ropes course and that takes a lot of strength. I hope to get there again, no I WILL get there again!

My varicose veins bother me so much more since surgery. My OS that happens often. I want to get my veins done in the fall since I have met all my out of pocket for the year. I need to find out how long I need to wait. There are some actually cute support knee highs out now. I don't wear them out but I do put them on around the house some.

Hi! It's Nice to meet you! If the support stockings help with varicose veins, I'll have to look into those.
My PT worked on me a bit today, and while I do have Bootcamp tomorrow, I'm going to take it easy. The hamstrings irritated too. I rode the bike for 30 minutes today, and stretched like crazy, so I need all that stuff to settle down.
I'm sorry your adventure hasn't gone smoothly! I love that you nicknamed it Beelzebub. That is funny! We will be back to our usual selves soon, but this is truly an exercise in patience.

How does one post a picture, and how do you view other people's photos?

I post photos using the Upload a File button right beside the Post Reply button. The image shows up as a thumbnail at the bottom of my post. People click on that to see the full size image. I'm not sure how to embed photos in the post. You might have to downsize very large photos before posting.

That's crazy looking! Is that to help reduce swelling?

That's the idea, and it actually works! When it was removed, there were lines of clear skin under the strips where formally it was bruised!

BossK, I think I am having some IT band issue on my first knee. It just started to bother me. I need to google a picture of the top of the knee. This is like an angle right below the kneecap. It's the things like that that really add to this recovery!

My PT used the kinesic taping on me as well. It helped my swelling dramatically! I hope it helps yours too. Be sure to sport yours with shorts you could start a trend!

You bet I showed that off! It made me look like some type of stellar athlete. When people ask what happened to me that I would need two knees, I've noticed a cool story goes a lot further than "bad genetics".
The IT band "flicking" across the new parts sensation has been driving me crazy for the last three days. I've had the hubby using a rolling pin on the back of my leg to stretching to ice/heat rotations. Not much helping at the moment. :(

I remember having that after my first knee replacement. At the time, I didn't know what it was. It settled down after a few weeks, as everything became less swollen. It's a strange feeling, isn't it?

Bossk, love your octopus! Bet everyone at Bootcamp was jealous, lol.
