Oh ((( @Jaycey ))) hugs for you and prayers for little Jerry, that the vet will have help for him. It is SO awful to be with a suffering pet. I can't decide whether to wish for you that he is the kind of cat who seeks you out, or the kind (like two of mine) who crawls behind the furnace or what have you. The vet's knowledge will comfort you, one way or another. It is good to be home, I think.

:friends:Good Morning Jaycee!~ Good to hear you are going home today! Nothing better for healing than your own bed! Keeping you in my thoughts my Hippy Sister. Best to you, have a wonderful restful weekend and talk to you very soon:roseshwr: Joan:SUNsmile:

Very happy for you that you are home and will be in your own bed soon. I hate how long it can take them to get us checked out, those minutes drag like hours once you are ready to go. I imagine you also feel better being home with Jerry as decisions are made for his comfort but dealing with something so emotional right after major surgery must be ripping your heart out! I will pray for peace and comfort for both of you as you go through this journey.

Well I spent my first day home taking Jerry to intensive care. I am not having the easy recovery - but then again most recoveries are not easy. One day at a time!

So sorry Jaycey about your cat. What a heartache at this very trying time. Wish we could help but sending our best to you and him.

Cats don't always have the best timing, do they? You're a good mum to him and I hope he'll be feeling better very soon.

Jaycey....I'm glad you're finally home, but so very sad that things have not improved for Jerry. One day at a time is about all a person can do when dealing with these things.

Jaycey, our pets know how to get our focus off ourselves and to them, don't they? My heartfelt prayers to both you and Jerry as you face these next days together. Lots of decisions to be made and you'll make the wise choice. Glad you're home.

@Jaycey - I'm glad you're home.

Healing thoughts to both you and Jerry.

Sorry to hear Jerry is still not well, glad you are at home. Take it easy when you can.

So, first day/night home. I remember saying this on my LTHR thread - the hospital is an unrealistic environment. When you go home reality hits you in the face. First, there is no one there (unless you are lucky) to fetch every little thing for you. And everything is harder to do. You must plan ahead - especially if you have stairs. Just the morning routine of getting up, bathing, getting dressed can be exhausting. I consider myself very luck to know how to handle all the tools of the trade. I can't imagine how my fellow surgery buddies on the hospital ward where I stayed are dealing with all this. There was no instruction on dressing with a grabber, etc.

And no one brings you meds around the clock. I managed to get up several times last night. Took meds as prescribed. Went to sleep on an ice pack.

They sent me home using 2 canes. I resisted this but apparently you tend to lean on crutches more than canes. They said I was far to advanced for crutches. Guess they were right as I am already starting to use the 2 in the left hand more and more. The major muscle pain on the op side is also easing.

One day at a time folks - one day at a time!

Glad you are home, but really sad to hear about Jerry. Hope he is strong like you and gets better soon. Sending hugs your way x

I had THR on 15 September 2014. Had to have a bone graft due to protrusion into the pelvic bone. Also found out I have "soft bones" and therefore have small fractures on my femur due to operation.

First day of the rest of your amazing life! Ups and downs, it's your story! So happy you're home!

@Jaycey no walker? I am forever grateful that's what I was told to use, although at the time I was in a one-story house so didn't have to futz with the stairs. I found the walker much more stable than even two canes would have been, and I could put as much or as little weight on it as I needed. When I felt ready to graduate to one cane, I found that to br so much more difficult that I totally went without! But I kept the walker by me at all times-- had it rigged to carry everything I would need, so if, say, it was meds time and I was dozing-- well, water, almonds, and meds were right by me!

I must confess that bathing daily was very low on my list of "musts"! My hat is off to you and all those who do it!!

So glad that muscle pain is easing. Do you get home health visits or physio in home? Is your dressing still on? Do you have a little patch of sunny space to sit and snooze in? :) :)

@zauberflöte I was on a walker all of 5 minutes the first time out of bed. And yes, I thought canes would be unstable. But truthfully, I am doing just fine - now down to 1. Mind you I am moving very slowly and carefully.

I find getting up, washing and getting dressed makes me feel less helpless. I had an interesting discussion with the Senior Ward Sister at my hospital about this. Not everyone has the energy to do this but her observation was that those who moved to this stage quickly tended to heal quicker. Unscientific measure of course!

The muscle pain on the side of my leg has significantly decreased. I can now get in and out of bed without all the huffing and puffing. Dressing will be on until 10 days out from surgery. I have dissolvable stitches and glue so my GP's office will only remove the dressing and check the wound at day 10.

No sunny spot these days. We have had very persistent rain all day today. I am now focusing on getting my Jerry boy to eat something!
