This is the news I've been waiting to hear!!! So glad the surgery went well. Next stop.....HOME!!!

I'm sorry about your cat. Hopefully he'll be on the mend soon. Maybe seeing you will help. You guys can snooze together.

First day on the road to recovery. Have not needed the morphine pump at all - but lying in bed can give a false reading. The great news is no log leg. Muscles are engaging -a bit weak but there! Nurse keeps asking if I am ready to run around today. Yes please!

Unfortunately things aren't good with Jerry! Chronic kidney failure. Please pray for my little guy!

Jaycey, Eat up and then get a good night sleep. Sending many prays for your four legged best friend. :prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer: and many more. Tashia

Hello, @Jaycey! Thrilled to read your posts. You sound so great! And I am so happy you didn't wake up this time. Also, no log leg?? Wow, that's really good, too. Very sorry about your cat. Please take care.

First walk was only supposed to be to the chair but PT and I agreed to go further. No dizziness but the expected stiff and sore feeling post op. I keep asking for ice - they provide it but look at me like I am nuts!

Obviously not BoneSmart people! Good to hear it's been an okay experience thus far.

Sorry to hear about Jerry. Is he an old boy? Tom cats are much more prey to kidney disease, especially in their later years. Almost all of my little lads over the years have succumbed to it. Only good thing about it is they just get sleepier and sleepier as the disease progresses so they hardly suffer, just end up sleeping lots. It's usually very peaceful for them, just upsetting for us.

@Jaycey It sounds like you are doing very well so far. I hope the pain stays at bay as long as possible for you. I am very sorry your cat is so sick; an added stress for you, especially when dealing with emotions from surgery too. Hopefully he can be kept comfortable and you will be home soon to cuddle him.

Prayers, Jaycey... Those kitties steal our hearts.
And meanwhile you! No hiking the outback!!!

My phone sent this using BoneSmart Forum, clever phone!

@Josephine yes Jerry is an old boy. He did seem like he was suffering but the vet gave him ant-nausea and pain meds. His brother had the same problem and I won't let him suffer.

Thanks to all of you who have stopped by my thread. Your encouragement is much appreciated!

@Jaycey, so glad to hear that you are doing so well and, wow!, no log leg. Fantastic. I'm very sorry to hear about Jerry. I'm hoping and praying that all goes well for him. Hang in there!!

Second walk down the hall and back. Significant muscle pain straight from my incision to my ankle. Eases a bit with moving around. Tomorrow the stairs so I may need more meds. :sigh: I am determined to get out of here on Friday!

Jaycee! My partner in crime! How are you doing? You have been on my mind as I lay here in my hospital gown.... It is 8AM here....just had a cup of coffee, waiting for PT to put me through the hoops to prove I can go home today! My Surgeon( :bow:Dr. Barrett, Vally Medical Hospital in Renton, Wa.) came in this morning and gave me the thumbs up :thumb: to go home this afternoon. You are going to stay until Friday? Hope they treat you like a Queen !:ice: And bring you your every need. How is your pain? I hope it is controlled. I feel good so far. The meds are working!:spin: With my knees it was SO PAINFUL...this is much easier thus far...did you have Anterior hip replacement as I did? They say Recovery is much easier , less restrictions.

Take care my friend! Let's keep in touch often with our journeys. We may be worlds apart....but, only in miles. Sweet dreams My Lady! :console2: Joan:SUNsmile:

@gazelle7777 Been thinking about you too! Day 2 the over riding problem is boredom! Most of my fellow patients are in their 80s or 90s - bless their hearts!

My restrictions are more "if it hurts don't do it". I had lateral approach but they also tried to correct my LLD so a bit more muscle pain. I am sure this is nothing like knees.

Yes lets keep in touch. We are in this together!

:wowspring:

@Jaycey! Horray -- make that "HIP HIP HORRAY" for you! Wow, I'm sure all those old folks are wondering what is going on with you!! What great progress you're making, but remember to be kind to yourself. You may feel ok but the body has still been through a lot. Be sure and give it what it needs re icing and rest.
Prayers for Jerry. No matter the age, they are still our babies.

So sorry to hear your love kitty is not well.......I lost a 19 year old kitty from kidney disease. I know they can do wonders now keeping them hydrated so they feel better. It is so hard to see them not feeling well, and you feel helpless. ((Hugs)) Joan

Hi Jaycey, good luck for the recovery and fingers crossed for Jerry. Happened to my old cat a few years ago and vet recommended no dry food (he loved biscuits) and tuna in oil (he hated oli but loved brine which wasn't ideal!) Managed to hang onto him for 5 more years after that, they can bounce back so fingers crossed. See you are also in UK like me. Do they tell you in the UK about what approach they use? Mine did not but all our USA friends seem really knowledgeable about this!

@mattyb yes they tell you the approach but only if you ask. I always take a list of questions including the approach, type of implant (you can't really influence this but like to know), restrictions, etc. A patient friendly surgeon will spend the time with you. An educated patient is a partner in this process.

So good to hear that you are doing quite well - but so hard to have poor kitty not . . . I've lost several of my cats to kidney failure -- my son suggested that the pollen from daylillies is very hard on their kidneys. I love the flower and had a couple of gardens with different kinds, finally dug them out this summer, :sorry: and adopted another little calico cat.
