Merry Christmas to you!
I am wearing flannel lined pants today, it is 29 F. My knee is very unhappy in cold weather, and the flannel lined pants help.
I get them from LLBean, for those in the US.:reindeer:

are any bonesmarties tkr going to leeds area in 2014 to watch LE TOUR no matter what that year i am determined to be there (baby sitting grand kids may be the exception but will take them with me if possible) see you all in our great county, sorry usa fans eat your heart out .

hi this is what having tkr means to me ,i am with grandkids for xmas and can kneel and get up from floor, also last night did my first jog all be it more hopping ,went to pantomime in eastbourne, beachy head road closed due to accident then next road closed due to flood finally got there 1/2 hour late after setting of 2 hours early to have something to eat before show,so park up and grab grandad and run what a laugh. Our xmas day is boxing day there daddy is working he is a fireman got to go rescue some cats,so if not raining going to supermarket carpark with bikes and picnic,if raining scouts have lent us keys to hut to play in .Hope everyone is well and enjoy christmas .

I am so very happy for you and your progress!
Have a Happy Christmas!

thought i was passed knee problems but woke today knee burning hot and have weeping rash on side of knee ,nothing there night before might have to see doc monday.

Richard,
Glad you are going to see the doc on Monday, hope it clears up before then. If it gets worse please find some care sooner.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

i am taking penicillin for rash doc said it should not afect knee, this week i have done 3 ,15 mile bike rides walked 5 mile round reservoires plus exercises and jobs round house have virtually no pain or swelling plenty of stiff knee if i dont move But i still cannot walk down hill with ease and living on a hill i have to walk down everyday to shops.Has anyone got ideas for exercise that my help this tried everything and still go down hill like a gereatric

I think you're just going to need to give your knee some time for the downhill strength. It took me quite a while before I was able to do that without actually thinking about my gait. Part of my problem was that the unoperated knee had some arthritis as well. Is that the case for you?

yes my other knee is bone on bone according to x ray but i am leaving having done because i get no pain at all or stifness with this knee other knee was worse on x rays and used to collapse so we decided to leave this knee for a year. When we walk back home i leave wife i can walk up a lot better than her but going down she has to wait for me,it is so frustrating can do squats nearly to floor swim 40 leangths of pool bike and walk all day on flat or up hill, going down is pathetic, but i dont suppose there is a miracle cure or one exercise i can do, thanks .

No, there are no miracles. I think that even though you don't have pain in that other knee, your bone on bone condition creates an instabillity that is impacting your ability to do downhills normally. Exercise is definitely good, but you may just need to put up with this issue until you choose to have the other knee replaced.

I'm having my other knee done on March 8th for just this reason. It hurts some now and then, but it is bone on bone in the back part of the joint and I can feel the instability. I have even fallen a couple of times with it when it just gives way unexpectedly. I'll be posting a recovery thread in March, so you might want to watch and see if this surgery works like I think it will to give me back that stability I've been lacking in the second knee.

right will keep an eye out right knee has never given me a lot of trouble even though x ray showed this one a few years ago was bone on bone when left knee showed a bit of cartilage left, physio i see gives lectures to student and told me he uses my x rays in lectures asking what they think this person feels about knees and it is always the right they say will give most trouble. So then he tells them i have had 5 injections in left knee for pain and this one gives way while right has no pain and very little loss of movement .I keep telling them x rays are wrong way round even surgeon said he would do right knee first till i explained about it.

sorry Ricbak to hear, your knee is giving you problems after all this time. I hope rash goes away, and all goes back to normal.
Jamie's point to being the other knee may be playing a part in all of it, although it doesn't hurt, it may be changing your gait.
Good Luck Jamie in March..take care..sheryl

At baths today tried different exercise left leg bent right leg straight out and lean back as far as possible, water holds most of my weight but some bends knee. After trying this a few times and normal swimming when walking home down village,I was half way down our hill when i realized i was walking normal going down a hill instead of limping .Must try this movement again Wednesday swimming my knee has never felt as loose feels good.

This exercise may not be for everyone but for me feels great.Swimming today carried on with exercise kneel on tkr leg other straight out and sway back.I am getting lower and water supports me it is not like kneeling in house you can keep knee of floor with water helping. On way home my walking down hill and on flat is even better if this stays the same i will be very happy.Back to baths on Friday ,roofers finally started on roof glad i am retired and would not do there job i prefered going underground, and my house when you look down to side street is very high.

Great pic of you and the wife!
thank you, at nephews wedding when he came back from iraq in only day we had sun last year wanted very casual no ties but he looked good in uniform.

Rich, awesome new avatar picture, your wife is cute! How is your rash that you had? I get a rash when I do me bike with my jeans on, too rough maybe! I hope your rash cleared up!

Hi yes wife is lot smaller than me but guess who is boss, rash turned out to be eczema but never had before and was on scar so wondered about infection.Lucky went to our doc mine was on holiday so partner saw me gave me cream for it,unfortunatly for me my doc will not talk about knee does not recomend tkr at all and told me never to ask him about it.Lucky up to know not put him to test but when i see him for other things always mentions same.

Rich, I'll bet that your doctor who doesn't believe in TKR would believe if he had bone-on-bone pain every day of his life! Shame on him for not treating the whole patient!:gaah:
