Richard, STOP that overdoing! No going up and down hills----yet. Get that leg elevated and iced.

Very good on getting the leg off the bed without assistance----baby steps, but they get you there. Remember to make a note of all the little milestones because they add up. And later when you're having a bad day, you can pull out your list and remind yourself of how far you've come.

Take care, keep us posted, we care.

getting better resting iceing had walk today not very good going downhill but once on flat okay only short walk coming back uphill easier .Got feeling of tight band round knee pain okay.Must be doing good wife took me to kfc for tea thats my treat place, car ride not great but worth it .elevate and ice now

Downhill and down stairs is more difficult than uphill and up stairs--takes more flexion going down. The tight band around the knee is pain caused by swelling even if the knee does not look swollen.

Gosh, Richard, you're just 10 days post op and doing really really well. Just itching to get on a bike already, I bet.

You take care, keep up the good work, and keep us posted. We care.

thanks for advice am following what you said before about not to doing much, did look in garage at my bikes but know will get them out 1 day, but not going to rush it thanks again lot of good advice
richard

Richard,
Sounds like you are doing just fine, patience is the hardest part. Keep your bikes dusted off, you will be riding before you know it.

Hi Richard,
We're only a day apart, I had LTKR on 5/31 & we sound pretty close as far as recovery on that knee. We do have different goals for recovery, you want to get back on your bikes and I want to get back to lunch out with the girls and getting back to the clearance aisles. I've missed so much, can't take it much longer. (I'm involved with a local charity and shop year round for good deals so I can make prize baskets for the fund raisers).
Take care of yourself!

Yes, going down hill or down a set of stairs is much more difficult than going up them---and that tight band is all part of what is to be expected during recovery---quite normal---even though you cannot see it, you knee is swollen on the inside.

As others have said, ice/elevate/rest!

exercising today day 11,knee bend slightly better but lifted leg up from 1" yesterday to nearly 2 foot today and no pain.If this keeps up Bradley Wiggins my win tour de france:dancy:

Tuck that little milestone away, Richard, to haul out when things aren't going so well so you can remind yourself how far you've come. That's just Grrrrrrrrrreat!

Sounds like you're doing well. Congrats on the getting your leg up and down by yourself milestone. Keep up that icing and elevating.

feeling a lot better knee bend is coming on might be better when staples out next week.Went with wife to shopping center new experiance for me hope not a sign that new knee equals shopping.Walked round sat had coffe walked bit more ,2 people stopped me i am wearing shorts big plaster down knee, both asked if tkr they have had same 1 18 months other 2 years ,walking very good no painas well very happy .Hope for me but still worried because both walking round shops is this wifes conspiracy new knee then i will go shopping ,need answer on this .

Think i have been doing to much.Fathers day today so went out for dinner but had a walk first round lakeside, but now knee very swollen,I do not get pain so must try to remember not to do too much.Ice and rest now cant wait for clips out next week my improve bending.

Just had my clips taken out, have been to physio today.Big telling off knee is swollen and shiny leg ,told i have been doing too much walking and not using crutches, said i am not ready for 1 stick. He is pleased with movement but must learn to walk a bit better, when had finished had more bend and easier also better flex. Was told more rest new excercise to do, must do better thought i was doing well, but wrong way

You're clearly a keener Richard, so I'm sure you'll do well in your recovery, but remember that rest is also a part of it (and shopping doesn't = rest!). Sitting around (aka rest) doesn't come naturally to some people, so I understand your motivation!

Was told more rest

Now....let's see......where have I heard THAT prescription before.....:whistle::heehee:

Good news that you're doing well, though. A little less activity and you'll be doing even better!!!

Ricbak1 - Have you been getting that additional rest in or are we likely to see you climbing the closest mountain on your bike? :heehee:

Hi yes have slowed down and its working ,already live on a mountain feels like, more people stop and sit on garden wall i am half way up and corner very steep .If had good summer keep getting asked by older ones to put table and chairs on drive ,but also turn my music down im 62 and love garage and techno music have 6 speakers in garage and play nearly full blast get lots of kids dancing on drive on way from school. And have mountain bike but hate it prefer road or my cross bike.

Well been to physio again today, because of cancels i have 2 hospital and 2 physio seeing me .Got to decide which one yesterday told knee cap stuck had manipulation felt okay asked about using exercise bike and swimming, was told yes rock on bike if can rotate fine body will say no,swimming yes if confident getting in yes fine. Today told knee cap fine do not even think about bike or swimming i do not have enough strength yet for weight bearing yet.Told to do more knee flex and standing up with arms crossed, his words same as told on here no pain more gain and i must ice and elevate more to reduce swelling of leg.Think will stay with this physio?.

Just found your post op thread Richard & discovered you married in 1969 - same as me. AND every day is a day off, same as me! How is the breakfast in bed going? Love it that the kids dance past your house - nice one! You'll be joining them soon :dancy:
(Surprised that you are not IN France to watch the Tour the way you are going. We have just booked a ferry for end of August, back into our lovely caravan in Morbihan, beautiful.)
