Im having a total hip replacement on the 13 August never been so worried in all my life. And ive have numerous hip surgerys since i was young. Im only 29 so i cant stop worrying if its the right thing to do or what if something goes wrong. Feel like cancelling the whole thing to be honest. Is anyone else feeling the same about their surgery xxx

I just scheduled my Bilateral Anterior THR for August 19. Can't wait to be rid of the pain in both hips, even if it get's replaced with some other post-op pain for awhile. Also looking forward to getting my active life back...biking, golfing, hiking, skiing, etc.

Yes I had my first (partial) replacement when I was very young, and unfortunately during recovery my femur fractured (very disappointing because it was going really well up to that point!), then I had 6 weeks bed rest (worst time of my life) eventually followed by a total replacement. The total replacement was a Godsend for many years, and I’m pretty sure it would still be fine if it wasn’t for me having two children in the meantime. So my problem now is dislocation (very painful), and therefore the view is to replace it again (this time removing the possible issue of metal on metal also!)

I would say that your THR will last many years (providing there are no unforeseen problems of course), but they do have to warn of the expected life of these things, and given your age they would expect you to outlive the hip, therefore then need to warn of replacement in the future (I assume they’re talking about further replacement rather than revision).

Anyway I’ve just noticed the date – it’s your op date. I hope it’s going / gone well, and I look forward to hearing all about it soon.

Hello everyone - I'm new to the site albeit rather late in the day...... I'm having my hip replacement next Wednesday 21st! Someone suggested this site to me some time ago but it's only today that I've actually taken the time out to look - wish I'd done it much sooner now Will be looking through all the August posts with interest

Hi Poppet, Thanks for the good wishes. Bill's paid, prescriptions filled, toenails cut, hair cut, cooking today and pack bag and I'm all prepared. Can't wait, can't believe this time next week I will be back home and have a new hip. Good luck to Roofmaster and sweetrosy for this week as well.
