Yes, that is a beautifully healed incision. :)
I've kept a record of mine and they make a fascinating history, especially as I thought mine looked pretty good at the 48 hour reveal. Goes to show how the body really does want to get better! :happydance:

Take care of yourself and don't overdo it. I've had patches when I decided I was all done and dusted, only to find myself falling asleep at the drop of a hat. Thinking you're okay then finding that energy drag can be a bit deflating, so don't have unrealistic expectations as you may find it gets you down. Today - 5 weeks and 2 days past surgery - I napped for an hour and half .... and I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you.

This was the first time I got to see my incision site. It was covered by the time I woke up and the bandage looked so good every time anyone looked at it that it never came off. I would have been interested to see it before now.

I think some of my over-ambitiousness is from being stir crazy.

I am not sure my doc would let me fly at 8 weeks anyway, so it is probably a pipe dream anyway.
How long a flight is it? Ask your surgeon about fly. A short haul flight may be fine at 8 weeks. You will just need to sit in an aisle seat so you can get up and move around regularly.

Me too - not being able to drive also robs me of so much independence.:oyvey:
I was told long haul was the no no ..... might be worth checking (?)

I sure hope your OS will release you to fly. It sounds like it would be a quick flight and you can call your carrier or the airport (not sure which one) and make arrangements for a wheel chair. You would also be boarded before everyone else. Another plus is you won't have to wait in those LONG lines we've all been seeing on television. :-)

I was allowed a short flight (just under 3 hours) at 8 weeks. You can book special assistance too which might feel a bit undignified but wow! it makes a difference to your energy levels.

I'd go in and visit work before committing to returning. I went at 7 weeks just to see what it would feel like having to get dressed, drive in etc. without the actual work aspect. It was useful to judge what I could cope with.

@Jaycey @Cynthia777 The flight would be about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. Pretty short. I had seen the posts on asking about special assistance.

That is a good piece of advice @Zelda on testing out the trip to work. My commute is about 40 minutes on a good day. Hip #1 is my right so driving endurance will certainly be an issue.

Back from our excursion out of the house. Got tired quickly walking with the cart as a walker. We will see what kind of a difference 2-3 weeks will make.

Should not be a problem for you as long as you can sit comfortably when needed and get up and walk around during the flight.

Energy drain - just can't fight it. But yes, 2-3 weeks can make a difference. Don't push it but fingers crossed for you!

I know you guys mainly drive automatics but my issue when driving has not been my operated right leg but the un-op left which can't cope with a lot of gear changing.

I don't think it's so much your operated leg being ok to drive, it's more what kind of car you have, and if you can get in and out of it. I found I also had to adjust the seat too.

I learned on a stick shift and I miss driving one. An automatic transmission makes it seem like just steering and not driving. Unfortunately, that's all we have though. I can imagine pushing in the clutch would be worrisome on a new hip. We have a big SUV that is easier for me to get in and out of so I shouldn't have as bad a time getting into the drivers seat. Atlanta traffic can be a bear, lots of stop-start-stop-start.

Well, your sense of humor came out intact. I love it when you feel well enough to laugh at yourself! Will be waiting to hear your post op wisdom!

Headed to my 4 week appointment this morning. I think I am just seeing the PA today, so not sure if I will be able to start making any plans for hip #2 just yet. Should be able to get an idea on return to work and the possibility of flying at week 8.

Back from visit with PA. She felt like I was progressing very nicely. X-ray and incision sight both looked good. We discussed return to work. She felt like 6 weeks was realistic for me and left the decision in my hands. We talked about staging the return--reducing hours, alternating days. We talked about what I was doing with in-home PT. She said it was up to me if I wanted to do out-patient PT she could write me a referral. I told her to go ahead and write one and if I started to feel like I really needed it I would use it. I doubt I do. She said it was ok to fly at 8 weeks.

I asked about hip #2 and she echoed the comment both she and the OS gave me previously...Lets get you through this one first. I told her I was beginning to feel like I was getting ready to hit that crossover point where the non-op hip was going to be the one that limited me more than the op hip. We went ahead and talked through my planned timing for hip#2. Shooting for first full week of November. She suggested to book early since that was a busier time of year. I told her that I understood that the OS didn't book out farther than 3 months in advance and I would be on top of it, just like I had on hip#1.

So now my plan is to see how much I can progress over the next 2 weeks. Try to get out and do more things and build up my endurance. Listen to my body and see how I do with the energy drain.

Sounds like you got all your questions answered! A Good Day! Now you can begin to make some concrete plans for the summer. I bet that feels fabulous!
