Hi Ally. Glad to see you still have your sense of humour. I really hope they get this infection under control for you quickly. It sounds like they're moving in the right direction going onto oral antibiotics.
Thinking of you.

Hi, it's Wednesday and I'm finally going home. I'm on oral antibiotics for a while yet but the doctor thinks we've beaten it.
I'm just wondering about my Clexane injections. The hospital doctor (not my OS) said I can stop them because I'm 3 weeks post op. I seem to remember doing them longer than that last time. After all my troubles I'm wary to stop the injections early. The last thing I want now is a blood clot!
If be interested to know how long others did their injections for?

@Allycat, I had to do injections twice a day for 14 days. You're at 21 days, so I think you should be fine. Not only that, but you will be up and about not lying in bed all day and night. So put your fears aside and enjoy being home.

@Allycat SO glad to hear the OS thinks you've beaten it. Home will be most wonderful place, eh?
If it were me, I'd call the OS about the clexane just to be double triple quadruple sure-- probably you have already done that LOL.

Did you waltz out of the hospital all on your own, no aids? :) :)

Hi all
3 weeks 2 days post-op.
Wow I feel really good today. I came home from hospital yesterday and last night I slept from 11pm til 7-30am. Unheard of for me!! I think it was a combination of pain meds, lack of sleep in hospital and being in my nice cosy bed.
I went grocery shopping today with a friend. Only for about an hour, but I didn't feel too bad. I needed a rest when we got home, but didn't fall asleep.
After all the yuk hospital food, today I cooked and enjoyed a tasty lamb roast dinner.
I had my first standing up shower - woohoo.
Pain today is 0/10.

Lol @zauberflöte , I know I said I would walk out of hospital, but not quite. The ward I was in was right at the back of the hospital so they got me a wheelchair. Never mind.

Welcome home @Allycat - no place like home and one's own bed that is for sure... Roast lamb dinner.. Yum, yum..

I am so pleased you are pain free and sleeping well xx

@Allycat, great to hear you are doing much better now. Wishing you all the very best for an uneventful recovery from here on!!

@Allycat you are too much-- in your fourth week and "an hour of grocery shoppin is not too bad". Sheesh! I didn't grocery shop till 5 weeks, and it was a 15 minute shop, and I nearly passed out at the cash register! May have been the extreme heat (late June in VA can be brutal already, as it is right this very minute!) and low BP. And then, and THEN... you roasted lamb and all the fixin's-- you are unbelievable! You GO girl!!:chuckmarch::happyfeet:sorry these things are way too cute not to use somewhere, and you're today's victim....

What a great day, and a wonderful lamb dinner you made. Good for you!
Have a nice weekend!

Hi @Allycat I have been thinking about you since Bill (Fulafoto) told me you had an infection but have just found your thread and read about your recovery.

I really hope they have got it now and that will be the end of it. I'm sorry you have had to go through this.

Hang in there....besides the complications, you sound like you are doing really well

Xxx

Hi
I'm at 5 weeks today and I need someone to tell me that not all THR are the same even between your left and right legs.
My left leg was a mess before surgery, I could barely walk and since the operation I haven't looked back.
My right leg was not as advanced so I kind of assumed the operation and recovery would be a dream. Well, not so.

Things were going fairly well until infection hit, but that's well under control now.
However, here I am at week 5, and can still barely walk. I use one crutch around the house, 2 outside. I am still so, so tired and sleep a lot. The only good part is there is still no pain to speak of. I am gradually reducing the pain meds and that all seems to be going well. I was thinking it was maybe the pain meds making me so sleepy.
Now I have developed a pain in my right calf that is worrying me. It feels a little muscular I guess. so that pain is preventing me from walking more than I am.
I also have a small lump on my tummy, under my skin, about the size of a 10c piece, and the area looks a little bruised. It is in the general area of where I was getting my clexane injections, so I wonder if that's the cause.

All in all I feel in the wars and today will be a blues day.
Ally

@Allycat Ally awwwww I am sorry you are moving so slow on this hip. I would think that the long time with the spacer would take a serious toll on all your body, so what you're describing is just a natural result? 5 weeks is not all that far out!

I had calf pain at about two weeks, and went to the ER on a Sunday because I was afraid it was a clot. Not a clot, but I was undermedicating-- it went away when I upped my dose a little. I am prone to muscle cramps anyway, since childhood...

The lump with a bruise sounds EXACTLY like some of the reactions I get to my upper-thigh allergy shots. You should call your OS, but I bet you're right about the clexane.

Sorry you are blue. You know it comes with the territory and is transitory (ok, that was fun to write!), and meanwhile you nay imagine me capering and gamboling in my jester's bells for you!

My phone sent this using BoneSmart Forum, clever phone!

Sorry you are feeling in the wars today Ally.....that is part of this recovery, especially as you've had more to deal with than most. I only had RtHR and had to use 2 crutches for 12 weeks as I had small prosthesis & bad limp....but it all went well in the end....it's all the little aches, pains & other things that keep popping up and get you down isn't it. One day, one thing, next day something else to worry about. Hope today is a better day for you...Chrissie x

Hi Alley, just catching up with your thread.Great news that the concerns regarding an infection are well and truly behind you and that your hip is not too painful.Fatigue and the blues are part of the course for recovery and not nice to go through but they will pass.As Chris says it is the other little aches and pains that randomly crop up which get us down but these too will pass.I still get woken up with cramp in the calf of my operated leg and most unpleasant it is too.It may be a little too early to cut back on your pain meds as they will keep a lid on all your aches and pains. You have been through so much this time and it is no surprise that you are still quite fatigued. If I were you I would just accept the situation an just rest for now.My abdomen was a right mess for a few weeks after I stopped the injections.I was covered in bruises and I recall I had 2 large lumps under the skin. They were there for a while and then disappeared. I hope your recovery is straight forward from now on.

I need someone to tell me that not all THR are the same even between your left and right legs.

@Allycat ... I don't have personal experience (yet), but I've read many many times where the recovery is very different. So try not to despair. I would think, too, that having to deal with an infection on top of it all would make this time around much harder emotionally and physically (all
the stress and worrying). I haven't seen her posting here in a while, but @Songlady was one who
had both hips done and would say the recovery wasn't the same. Maybe others who have been in
this boat can chime in on this. Hang in there, best you can. Take care.

Oh Ally, I am so sorry - somehow I lost your thread (must be having a mans look ) So pleased your moving along with your recovery and they have that infection all taken care of. Take care and don't overdo it xx
