No, that's alright - I'm used to looking at things through a plastic sheet!
It's just a superficial infection as far as I can see. A short course of antibiotics should sort it out.
Or, it could just be inflammation from being deprived of air which will also be okay once the dressing is off and the staples are out.

@Allycat I just saw the pix, and Jo's response. That sounds promising.......
Same with @Sharri ... your antibiotics for uti should be good. Glad you found that and acted.

I have a scratchy cough that is worrying me now......
Hope it goes away. Has been here for three days now. Figure I will call on Monday if not resolved.

Take care!

@Allycat Jo's response comforts me, hope it does you too-- and you being 13-14 hours ahead of me, perhaps you've seen your nurse by now-- hope the report is equally encouraging!!

@MajorHeidi I'm sorry about your cough-- maybe just allergies??

@fulafoto I never say hey to you even though I see your posts all over! I have this guilty feeling that I'm not going to be on here come time for your surgery (son getting married in July, mild panic ensues...) so here is saying that you show the MOST grace under incredible pressure I have seen, and on this forum we see alot of that :) :) :)

Why thank you very much Chris @zauberflöte and it is so nice of you to say hi!!!! There are that many terrific members here it is hard to get around to everyone isn't it? And than you for you well wishes too - they are very much appreciated :) Hope the wedding goes well for your son and it is a day to remember for him and his bride :)

@Josephine thank you so much for your reply. You have put my mind at rest. The nurse has just called in and said almost the same thing. He took a swab of the wound just in case, but also said he thinks its superficial and not deep infection. I don't have a temperature and otherwise feel well so that is positive. A nurse will be calling in again tomorrow to check on me.
I probably panicked a bit, but the word "infection" scares the heck out of me :yikes::scary:

@MajorHeidi @zauberflöte @fulafoto

Thank you for your concerns and kind wishes. It is much appreciated. :roseshwr:

@Allycat so happy to hear that it's looking positive for you!!! It's so scary thinking that an infection could be the downfall of your recovery, but reassuring when the experts think it's all going to be ok :). I hope you are feeling some relief and able to breath a little easier!! Thanks everyone for your concern for me as well :). I have had 3 days of antibiotics and am definitely starting to feel better. @MajorHeidi I hope the cough doesn't turn into anything concerning. @zauberflote that is a drink in my avatar. It's a Bellini and it just turned out looking like it was glowing from the lighting in the restaurant which was a very cool effect! I hope everyone has a good healing day today!

Keep us updated Ally, @Allycat - the Keflex will do the trick as Jo indicated. It is good to be vigilant xxx

I should have added that stitch (or in this case, staple) infections are quite common.
They usually don't go any deeper than the fat layer and resolve readily.

@Allycat Whew! I'm glad to hear the good news :)

@Sharri The Magical Glowing Drink-- I want one of those!!

@fulafoto thank you for the wedding wishes :) My son just wants it to be all over with, and I kind of suspect the bride does too-- but her mom is having the time of her life!:heehee:

How are you today @Allycat ? I hope the antibiotics are helping

Thank you for Birthday Wishes.
I'm typing this on my phone so apologise for any typos etc.
I'm back in hospital.
The swab showed some nasties so they wanted me to come in last Tuesday.
I have been on 4 hourly IV antibiotics since then.
I had an ultrasound which showed infection below the scar 16cm x 10cm x 5cm deep.
At that stage there was no infection in the joint itself.
My OS deciding today or tomorrow if we are winning with the IV's or if he wants to flush the wound.

My veins are collapsing from the constant taking of bloods and inserting of canulas. I am covered in bruises.
I'm in a sad, sorry way at the moment.

I had my birthday in hospital and it was quite good. My friend decorated my bed with balloons, we had takeaway Chinese food. And I have lots of cake!

So sorry Ally that you had to spend your birthday in hospital, nice friends to bring you cake and decorate with balloons.

Sounds like your OS is on the job, we have fingers and toes crossed for a positive decision soon regards the treatment for the infection.... It is tough when our veins collapsed, I experienced that in ICU.. Sending positive vibes to you Ally xx @Allycat

Allycat - well I was sad to read you spent your birthday back in the hospital, but I am glad that you're gonna lick this thing once and for all. Of course I am thinking of you and wishing nothing but the best and anxiously await the good news! In the meantime, keep those spirits up - you still have a shiny new hip and you're going to be using it pretty darn soon to so all the wonderful things you've been waiting for. Xoxoxo

Oh Alley. I am so sorry for you that you have to go through this. I sincerely hope that they control the infection before it gets into the joint. To be honest you really are in the best place and it sounds like your surgeon is really proactive in trying to get rid of this horrible thing. Please know that I am thinking of you.

@Allycat, I am so so sad to read this! Like @fulafoto said, you are in the right place and your OS does sound like he's on top of it. Still, of course you are blue. Who wouldn't be? This is just rotten luck of the draw and I'm so sorry it happened to you. I'm so happy to hear your wonderful friend came to celebrate your birthday, decorate your room. Hang in there and come back to your friends at bonesmart and we will help you through this.
Take care.

Thank you everyone!!
Day 20 post op
Day 7 post infection

Still in hospital, still on 4hrly IV antibiotics. The doctor said we will change to oral antibiotics in the next day or so, and they will watch me here for a couple of days before sending me home. So I am here for a while yet. When the nurses come around now and say "are you still here?" I say "yes, I live here now!" Lol

On the upside, the pain is much better over the last day or so and I am starting to just use a walking stick so I can ditch the crutches. I reckon when it's time for me to go home, I'll just walk right on out of here! No aids required! This is almost like being in re-hab. Haha.
