Hi Poppet

Thanks for the lovely thoughts and hugs! Much appreciated. I am coming to the end of both my antibiotics and the ibuprofen, so I will need to watch carefully over the next few days that things don't get worse again. I think it is slowly improving.

One positive thing this week, I managed to cut all but one of my toe nails. So good to be able to do it myself. I also (so that's two things) worked out a safe way to shave my legs. My ROM is still not very good, but has improved little by little.

Yay octopus cutting toenails and shaving!! I hope you've seen the last of the inflammation/infection problem; it's encouraging that you feel it's improving.
Housesitting any animals lately? :heehee:
 
Hi Diane... What a wild ride you're having. Sorry I missed all the drama, hopefully things are finally looking up. I think the toenail thing heralds better times ahead. I started to improve once I had that under my belt. Wishing you all good things and sending positive vibes your way. Xxxxxxc
 
Thanks Vida, Vicky lovely to "see" you! I'm doing better. My hip is not so painful, just a little limping on standing sometimes. A bit sore when doing the exercises , but that is slowly improving. My vein is less sore and I think the swelling has gone down a bit. I'm on my second lot of antibiotics and ibuprofen. I go for another scan tomorrow and hopefully all is well. I hope things are going well for you. Best wishes!

octopus Just caught up with your thread tonight and was sorry to read about your infection. I hope the scan gives/gave you good news. Congratulations on reaching your toenails and shaving your legs. Isn't it weird what we find exciting?
 
octopus it's tomorrow for you from where I am, that is to say it's your tomorrow after the tomorrow you said you'd have the scan, and if you are not yet sufficiently confused, I can work on that syntax some more!!! How are you doing? :)

Hehe zauberflöte, scan was yesterday :)

Scan results are that there has been no improvement. But on the upside it's not any worse. I'm not sure what happens now. I have sufficient meds for the weekend and if I don't hear anything by Monday, I'll give the doctor a call.

But for now I have friends coming over today to do art! Sunday I attempt to make curtain linings for my new curtains. And I'm looking forward to a trip away to our capital city, about an hours flight away, next Thursday to Sunday.
 
octopus let us hope that this phase of "stayed the same" means that the next scan will show improvement!!

You've got a great weekend going on. An Art Party, what fun :) ! Curtain linings, not so much, but they will keep you warmer the next few months. Is your upcoming trip business or pleasure or both?

I think of you and your hill-climb from the house you watched every time I go up the short incline at the bottom of my driveway. Suddenly one day last week it became possible to do with a normal stride instead of teeny baby steps or walking on the balls of my feet. Nice little milestone. My Octopus Driveway...:heehee: it even has a cat in it!
 
Whoa! Step away from the list for a couple weeks and all heck breaks loose! So sorry to hear about your thrombophlebitis :sad: It should be Monday for you now - Any word from the doc? Good luck with all of this, I am thinking of you! How was your art party? Sounds fun!
 
Hi nerdgrrl! I know, I come back from work and some threads have another two pages to catch up on! I heard from the doc late this afternoon (after me placing a call and leaving a message this morning) and he said he needs to call the thrombosis unit but of course they had closed for the day. I have made an appt with my own doctor and will feel much happier being under her care instead of the emergency centre. So more waiting. I'm really hoping its ok for me to fly, as I'm going out of town in a couple of days, all booked and paid for. Thanks for stopping by, it's always good to hear from you. The art party was great, last guest left at 10pm. Finished my curtain linings too, so we are snuggly and dark now. (Added blackout thermal lining to new ready mades). I'll pop over to your thread shortly and see how you are doing.

Josephine, I think I read somewhere on the forum that ibuprofen is not good for uncemented hips. Did I read incorrectly, I couldn't find your answer on that particular thread. My hip is uncemented and I have been prescribed ibuprofen for a couple of weeks now. I am not quite five months post surgery.

Quite right! NSAIDs are known to suppress the growth of new bone cells so are inadvisable for use in the early weeks after having had an uncemented joint replacement. However, at 5 months out, it's unlikely that this applies to you any more.
 
Poppet. I saw my own doctor yesterday, who thankfully had come across this condition a couple of times before. It can take up to a couple of months to clear. I have to take the ibuprofen for about another week and then as long as I feel uncomfortable. I will have another scan in 4 weeks to see how things are going.
