Yesterday Great day! Today...Cold and Wet Rain...Not so Great:)
My new Hip leg was SO stiff. Walking well, but really stiff. Hoping it's not the limited range of motion.
Too soon to tell...I will just keep on walking and moving forward.
Mood improving, less of the "what If's" that I kept doing after all these surgeries. Thanks for listening!
I need support!
Laura

Hi Laura,

You have and are still going through tough times.. :(

BUT, you will get all the support you need right here. We will be with you through your good and bad days, because we all have similar up and down moods.. Hang in there, we will be here for you.

You have a wide circle of friends from all corners of the globe. lol, Sandy, from OZ :thumb:

Hey Sandy from OZ!

Thank you:))
I talked some more to my Surgeon today. He installed the Zimmer, Natural Hip and locking ring Components.
Given my numerous dislocations, first one due to a major Fall, it was best I believe. I feel confident about this now, and can have some peace.
The locking ring is one that has some grooves and space to accommodate good range of motion...That was good to hear.
I also signed up to participate in any Studies to follow progress of this procedure...

Today is a good day, just to be alive and walking!
peace and Joy, and Happy New Year!
Laura

Hi Laura

Good to hear you have more detailed information about the locking ring. And feel happier.

Actually, my hubby who is always researching, researchig had come across the use of this quite some time ago and said he could understand why it wasn't used more often. Now he is obviously not a surgeon, but has THE MOST curious and inventive mind I have ever come across. He has been researching stem cell therapy for years and years and was hoping to find a solution other than surgery for me!

Yes, it is a good day to just be able to walk... You lap that up Sister and enjoy every step you take :) xxx Sandy

Please forgive my iPad errors, will switch to my laptop when back in the city - hope you get my drift though :)

Actually, my hubby who is always researching, researchig had come across the use of this quite some time ago and said he could understand why it wasn't used more often.
Well, that was what I said, Sandy - it's meant for 'acutely unstable' hips which I don't think applies to Laura.

Exactly Jo,

I probably didn't elaborate sufficiently on hubbies research and comments. You are both on the same page regarding patients who are at risk of dislocating.. I am sure you would enjoy chatting with him. He researches all the latest techniques. When I started my journey for a THR he was into heaps of scientific sites and papers wanting to spare me the surgery.. Very deep thinker :)

Luv that you are using my name :)

Hey you 2!
Thank you for your concern and support!
I think your husband sounds awesome! So glad you have that support and care!

Now in my case, there is a bit of information I left out.
My brain is just returning:) If you know what I mean...

I dislocated the new hip 2x within 48 hours (roughly)
Also, I took a BAD fall the first go round. I tore it out, basically.
I hold myself somewhat responsible. I tried to take care of myself on
my own, after 7 days Post Op. I took too many chances and did not
ask for help.
There it is...the Truth. So I fell flat onto the floor and heard a huge rip and also a big snap.
I was down on the floor for about an hour, unable to crawl or get myself up.

My Surgeon and I discussed his 38 years in solo practice. He has been rated #8 in the Southeast for several years, now #9:)
He said he has tried for years and years to go back in, do Revisions, straighten that 'part' (name escapes me), and finally he said he was
tired of putting the patients through this, many times, with unstable hips.
Mine was very unstable, after the first Fall. I dislocated again just sitting, 24 hours later.

He likes this particular locking ring, given the fact it has open grooves as opposed to previous ones that locked all the way around.

It's not what I planned, but it is certainly going to be okay. I learned a lot
about myself this time...And some things I don't like so much:)
Guess that good God wanted me to learn some new things!

Thanks Sandy and Jo...I appreciate your studious nature and experiences. I will keep on Posting, as I keep on Trucking!
Laura

Wow Laura,

You are very brave, I couldn't imagine going though that especially the falling part and being on the floor for an hour, I'm so sorry!

You sound like you are doing better and I hope this continues for you!

Warm wishes,

Sarah

You keep coming back Laura, we are here for each other and we find comforting and encouraging words just when we need them.

I have been through incredibly difficult times in my life, but I rate a hip replacement as THE number one stressor for me personally. No one else can share our individual minute by minute pain whether it is physical or emotional and sometimes it all becomes too much and over whelming.

Our loved one's carry a different set of stressors, watching us struggle each day. Some days they share our achievements, some times our frustrations, guilt at asking for help, watching us bravely try to be independent, and we are blessed to have them in our lives.

But it is the actual people here on the forum who are prepared to bravely expose themselves, personally, physically and emotionally who really understand.

I see this forum as the epitome of what humanity should and could be all about.. We are lucky to have found each other. Some will pop into our lives through the forum and stay a while and others will linger a litlle longer and some of us will become personal friends..... because we understand!

Lots of love
Sandy xx

I will keep on coming back! Thank you all, and yes it really means a lot at this time...
I just keep learning and this Site has helped a lot with lots of Information, as well.

I travel back to work this coming Monday...I am going a far distance, but I have my Cane and my good attitude:)

I will take it EASY for awhile. My body seems to let me know before my Stubborn mind does:)
All the Best!
Laura

Oh Laura, I do hope you can take it very easy. It's pretty early for you to be going back to work - especiallly with all you have been through. Please be good to yourself and take things very slow and steady.

Hi there Laura,

I haven't been on her in a while, but just read your thread. I welcome you as a fellow bonesmart poster with similar hip problems. I feel for ya, I know the incredicable pain of the dislocation too well myself. My Doc and I discussed the contraining ring, and liner, but I didn't want it at all.

I spoke to not only my Doctor but 3 more experts before making up my mind prior to the last revision and from what they all told me, I hate to say it, but I don't feel you will get the flexibility back. That's partly why I told them that I did't want it. I do need further surgery but I'm not rushing into it just yet because I need time to prepare myself emotionally for yet another surgery.

Wishing you a New Year that will bring you good health, and lot's of happiness.

Hi Special Lady!
I hope you are feeling better very soon...Thank you for your take on this subject. It all happened so fast for me, and I had limited time and funds/resources to wait...

I understand your concerns, and I have the same. But slowly I am coming back. With this being my 2nd hip replacement in my early 50's, I guess I just feel grateful I can walk now. It was so bad and painful for so long, you know?

I don't feel too constrained to date, 8 weeks post-Op. Time will tell. I have accepted whatever will come though. I wish you all the best and hope you are feeling encouraged and out of pain!
Laura

Happy New Year All!
May 2012 bring less pain and more Joy!

I am going to go slowly on my journey back to work.
I have actually requested the wheelchair assistance at each airport leg of the journey.
Yay! Finally learning to ask for help! It is a long journey and I need to conserve every ounce of energy I have...

I will take it Easy. My body does not allow me to do otherwise.
Healing is slow and steady. From what you all have posted, this is to be expected and will take time. Will just keep on praying and staying as Positive as I can.
Thanks so much for the Support and help! I have really appreciated it and need it as I begin to make the trip back to work. J-O-B calls so I can address those hospital admissions:))
Laura

Happy New Year Laura,

Safe travels, listen to your body and be good and gentle to yourself.

Lots of love,

Sarah

xxooxx

Hi Laura

Ditto Sarah's comments xx

And I am so thrilled that you are asking for help when needed.

Lap it up, I am sure you have well and truly earned the attention :)

Take care going back to work and do keep posting and letting us know how you are going.

Thank You Thank You!~
Happy New Year to you Support Friends!!

I really appreciate your help and thoughtfulness!
I will stay in Touch !!
Laura

Hi Laura,

The day you started your thread here, I was getting my first total hip replacement.

I am so sympathetic to your feelings about getting to work and all. For some of us (including me) in the US, without the J-O-B, there would be no new hip. :rolleyespink:

It's a shame you have to actually travel to get back to yours, but it sounds like you are doing what you need to do by asking for wheelchair assistance etc.

I'll light a special candle for you and your back-to-work adventure. You're an inspiration to me! :thumb:

Hi Shawnna!

Thank you so much for reading and checking in.
How are you doing? I hope you are feeling much better each day!
I know it is so frustrating...Yes, without the Job, there is no Hip:) Oh well, guess it keeps us out of Trouble:hysterical:

Well, you hang in there! And thank you for the CANDLE!
I will receive it with Love. Tomorrow is D-Day and I go on the Wheelchair roll at the airports!
Laura
