Re: Living nightmare...

I feel like such a failure, I use 2 crutches, can't drive any more, hardly leave the house.
You feel like a failure because your hip has come loose? Surely you can see how illogical that is? It's not your fault in any way, shape or form so stop beating yourself up about it! You'll soon be all repaired and fixed! :console:

Re: Living nightmare...

I do feel like a failure when my toddler falls over and I can't pick her up, when I can't go to her report meeting at nursery, when she crys because we can't go to the park.. It's not my fault but it doesn't change my feelings....

Re: Living nightmare...

ah, okay - I can empathise with that.

Re: Living nightmare...

Please remember feeling are just feeling. They are just that nothing more. Most of time they are not true but that is what feeling are telling you. Don't listen to them. You are a wonderful person thats having a lot on her plate. The plate will take care of its self. Life has ups and down and just ride with it. Remember in time you will be playing with your child and all this will be behind you. Please take care of yourself. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Re: Living nightmare...

Hi Heather
Just come across your story and have read it all. gosh i feel so bad for you and feel sorry for all the pain you have had to tolerate. I felt so relieved when I got to the end and read you have a date. Just hang in there and take it easy, i hope you have family and friends who can help you out.
Not long to go now but do keep us up to date and there is always someone here you can talk to and we all understand x

Re: Living nightmare...

and also, just saw the bit about your little girl. She is only very young and wont remember any of the things you cannot do for her now. And once you are all mended and brand new, you can't start making new memories, the two of you.

Re: Living nightmare...

Hello Heather, just visiting to send you my loving thoughts. Only 2 weeks to go now before this nightmare will be a thing of the past. OF COURSE you're not a failure, you know that. I'm sure you feel as though you're letting your little girl down, but as Britchick says she won't remember when you were in pain. She'll only remember you as you will be after the revision - better, recovered, optimistic, healthy, happy and able to be the best mother you can be.

Re: Living nightmare...

Well I have had all my pre op tests, so it's a case of sorting things out and filling the freezer now! They have said I will be in HDU for a while afterwards and in hospital approx 10 days. So after all this time 13 days to go...

Re: Living nightmare...

Hi Heather

You are on the final stretch now, do hope you can rest up a little before your surgery.

We will be keen to hear how you are going?

Re: Living nightmare...

Hi smja yes I will rest up I can't really do much else! I'm exhausted and starting to feel very anxious, this will be my 4th replacement and 19th operation but I know it will be a lot bigger op and I'm terrified it won't work if this doesn't work then what next?? 3 replacements on the same hip and I'm 34. I am really on the whole positive, Mr Treacy is positive IT WILL WORK!!

6 day post op...

Hi everyone

Well I had my operation on the 26th, I am now home but I am really in a lot of pain. I got up the stairs last night and have been feeling so weak today I haven't gone down though I have a chair in my bedroom and have been sitting in that. I am on toe touch weight bearing for 6 weeks then partial for another 6 weeks, this is due to dislocation risk being my 3rd. Mr Treacy did the operation and upon opening me up he said it was all just very tight, too tight, so everything has been revised, soft tissue loosened and leg length altered. My scar is very sore 38 staples... and I am in general not feeling great so I will leave it at that...

Re: 6 day post op...

I'm sorry to hear you are having so much pain. What medication are you taking? You've had a lot done--you need some strong pain med.

Re: 6 day post op...

Hi and welcome to the other side :thumb:

I hope by the time you read this that you'll be feeling a bit better. It's a big surgery and takes a while to start to feel human again.

Take it nice and slow -- no need to climb stairs if you don't feel up to it. I do hope you've got some help at home...

Ice on that incision & keeping up with the pain medications will help settle things down some.

Take care,
Cardie

Re: 6 day post op...

In time you will feel stronger. Remember to ice, rest, elevate and do pain control. I'm sure you will be fine. Go slow with the stairs. take care and stay safe. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Help please!

Hi

I am on day 15 now after my 2nd RHTR I had my staples out on day 13 and my wound is healing well.. Pain is not too bad as long as I stick to my meds at the allotted times. I'm on injections another 3 weeks. I am however having terrible problems sleeping I can under no circumstance roll or turn, for 12 weeks total, but I am unable to sleep due to lower back pain, I have tried a pillow under my good THR side but it's not helping, I am toe touch weight bear but getting up every hour to walk around, but I am developing a blister on my bum still! So due to this I'm feeling pretty uncomfortable, if anyone has any tips on how I can get comfy I would most appreciate them!

Re: Help please!

Lunes,

I think your are not alone with severe sleep issues. I didn't have that but I was the exception.

I think that the best wisdom was to sleep as much as you can...when you can...however you can. And bring all the pillows and blankets that you can to prop yourself up. Lots of folks have sworn by recliners...

And although a heating pad for your hip is not appropriate yet...if it helped with your back there is no reason why that should not be fine...

Good luck with that...things DO get better.

Re: Help please!

I agree with John.....right now you may need to be napping a lot during the day to get your rest in. And heat at the small of your back can ease back pain when you're lying down.

You also might try elevating your lower legs slightly with pillows to take the pressure from your back. I also suggest you time your meds so that you're taking a dose of pain medication at bedtime. Sometimes it helps to do some gentle exercising right before bed if possible.

If all else fails, you could talk with your primary doctor about using sleep medication for a short period of time until you are over the hump in recovery.
