I hear people talking about having a revision- is that like an arthroscopic surgery - sorry for my ignorance ?

@cait1981 I've moved your post into your recovery thread as if anyone responded to it, it would derail lovetocookandsew's thread. That is not considered courteous. If you have a question, come and post it in your own thread not in the thread where you saw the comment that caused you to ask it. Okay?

So to answer your question, a revision is quite the opposite af an arthroscopy. To revise means to do it again so 'a revision' also means doing it all again! The whole thing! Implants removed (for a variety of reasons) and replaced with new ones. So it's like having the entire knee replacement all over again.

Okay thanks Josephine- sorry about posting in the wrong area :S

Some folks who have sensitive scars find that putting a film over it when they sleep helps. we have kitchen film here called "saran wrap" but I don't know what you have in Australia---I am sure there is something like it though!!

Oh yes Glad wrap- thanks I will try that!

Can anyone take a guess at my approximate ROM from the last photo I posted - I'm off to see the OS on Wednesday and have been working away gently and praying I'm increased from the 90 degrees I was at week one but I can't measure it.

I can do ROM from a photo but I need a photo like one of these, showing both the hip and the ankle as demonstrated.

Okay thanks I'll try to arrange one like that x

I'm 6 weeks post op and I still can't lift my leg off the bed without strong pain in the quad muscle just above the knee - its almost impossible. Is it too early to do quad sets yet as this might help?

It was nearly two weeks before I could lift my leg. I practiced straight leg lifts using my leg lifter by pulled no my leg with arm power, little by little I used less arm power and more leg power (quad muscle) until I could do a straight leg raise without the leg lifter.

I read about people getting infections several years after their surgery - I thought this would only happen while the wound was open or weepy. How can we avoid infection 'down the track' - any advice appreciated

I am almost 12 weeks out and I still have intense pain in the tendons/muscle just above my knee when getting up from a low chair or leading with that leg up the stairs. My OS said this is a common complaint. I have done a lot of quad sets and it hasn't helped it. I hope yours resolves quicker than mine has.

Thank you KarriB

You are doing good for 6 weeks. You had asked about numbness a few posts back. My tkr was 6 months ago and I am still numb on the outside of my knee. The inside is waking up there and I wish it wouldn't! I'm getting zingers like crazy there. My quad areas took a while before the pain subsided, but now it's almost completely gone. The only time I feel it is if I've over done. My ROM was slow coming, but I didn't let it bother me. I knew my knee would improve on it's own. I also saw that you quit PT. Good choice. I never did any for any of my 11 surgeries. Now, remember to not overdo and continue to follow the BS way. It is a proven method that works!

Thank u sistersinhim x
