TKR 3 weeks post op

I was just wondering if Pontoon had room to elevate - I plan to take a large cushion to work and sit at the counselling table between clients with my leg up. The centre also has a freezer and the bathroom has a rail as I'm still having quad pain getting off the loo - hoping Pontoon has a few options that will make her transition back to work easier.

I work out of my home, which makes it a lot easier for me to find ways to elevate and ice. Tomorrow is the big day to return. Still have this horrendous thick banding and funny think the banding always feels different every time I move or walk.

That's great @Pontoon - you can also rest when you need too. We are about to have 6 days of extreme heat here in New South Wales so I'm glad I still have 7 days off [emoji4]

First day back at work today after almost 10 weeks off. I started icing after morning tea and now have my leg elevated but struggling a little at the moment feeling nauseous not sure why. Oh well only 3 hours to go....

It is really early for you to be going back to work. You're still in the early stages of healing. Do nothing at all when you get home.

Thanks @sistersinhim
I had to go back to work as I had used all my available leave and I'm a single mum - I plan to do nothing at home as you have suggested x

Cait, you may be feeling nauseous from exerting so much energy, getting ready for work, driving there, working, getting home etc. That's a lot of activity after resting during recovery. As Paula said, plan on doing very little in the evening. Rest, ice, elevate as much as possible.

Thanks KarriB - I decided to leave an hour earlier than planned so going home to rest now

When I went back I tried to consolidate my chores. I carried laundry down the stairs on my way out the door (sometimes I even threw a load in and would put it in to dry when I came home), saved most of my cleaning for the weekend and often got takeout on my way home because I knew I was too tired to cook anything besides eggs. Any schoolwork I did was while I was elevating/icing at night so my leg was up as much as possible.

Great tips KarriB - definitely takeout tonight [emoji16]

Conserve as much energy as you can during your days at work. I went back at 12 weeks and was totally exhausted afterwards that I just came home and iced and elevated and slept until my next work day.

@Caits1981 , it will take a while to get your endurance back! Feel well.

How did you sleep and how did you make out today? How many days do you have to work?

Hi @sistersinhim

I went home and hour early as I was very tired though my knee had no more than a slight ache (as a counsellor I do sit down in my job so that helps). I had a cool shower (summer here) and my son made my dinner but I was so restless I couldn't sleep and was still awake at 2.30am. Anyway I'm back at work now with a strong coffee (I only drink coffee in the am). No clients to see until Friday so all computer work today and tomorrow. When I couldn't sleep after my surgery it didn't bother me as I knew I could catch up anytime I felt tired but that's not an option now but I'm sure I will get back into good rhythm soon.

I forgot to add I work Monday to Friday 8.30 to 5pm so have every weekend off which is good.

Oh good, you can rest this weekend. You're going to need it!

yes, when first starting back to work, I also had a day or so I felt nauseated and wanted nothing more when I got home then to just rest. It wasn't that my job was any harder than it was prior to surgery, I just didn't have the energy level. It did come, but I had, had some set backs during that time so my energy drain I thought lasted longer than maybe others.

I went home an hour early as I was very tired
It was a good move to go home early. :yes!:
Starting back with a full day at work is a bit of an endurance trial for you and your knee.

Good for your son! I hope today is a bit better.
