TKR 3 weeks post op

Feeling great tonight - I just hit 'Submit' for the last time - last assignment, last subject, last degree - its been difficult trying to research and make my argument in the fog that comes with lack of sleep and narcotics but I got it done a day early now I can relax and truly focus on recovery - so happy!

I read about people getting infections several years after their surgery - I thought this would only happen while the wound was open or weepy. How can we avoid infection 'down the track'
You're referring to two entirely different forms of infection. The first is a primary infection caused, as you so correctly say, through contamination of the wound. But the second is something else entirely and is described in here (which Karri has already left you!) Peri-prosthetic infection - also known as late onset infection

No way - I love you guys - everyones so supportive - I try to encourage others as well as this recovery could be a very lonely road. No it was the last assignment of my Masters degree - as a full time employed single mum with 4 adult kids all at home (2 are unwell - 2 are studying) I have been doing 1 subject a semester for what seems like forever so submitting that last assignment was a huge relief x

Congratulations! Now you can really relax and take care of that new knee!

You're welcome, @cait1981. I don't know how in the world you could study after having this surgery. I'm a backup SS teacher and I couldn't get my mind straight enough to teach for a couple of months! How in the world did you do it!? Just sitting and trying to read would put me to sleep. Keep up the good work!

Thank you KarriB and Spex10 xx

@sistersinhim - my last assignment was due 2 weeks after my surgery so I asked for a 2 week extension thinking that would be plenty of time - they gave me a 4 week ext and I was like... thats plenty of time - I really had no idea the struggle it would be to concentrate haha oh well we will see how well I did when they mark it!

Congratulations on finishing your Master's degree. That is an accomplishment you should be proud of.

Thank you newlybionic - its very relevant to my position as an addiction counsellor so might lead to a raise next year - here's hoping :)

I still say you're amazing to get it done this soon after surgery. My brain fog was awful!

I experienced brain fog also that seemed to hang on forever. All my interest in reading and crafting, I couldn't do. Just couldn't focus and concentrate. Glad to hear you were able to ride above your brain fog. Here's wishing to you getting a great grade for your hard work and effort. :)

I'm 7 weeks post op tomorrow and have an appointment with my OS at 3.30 today - i have a list of questions for him and praying he is happy with my ROM of approximately 95 and 0. Then onto the hairdresser for 2 hours pampering - I love the head massage they give you plus wine and nuts and they are all so lovely (expensive but so worth it). I will let y'all know what the OS says when I get home tonight.

Thanks mwetzel394 - today I am doing well and hoping for more good days than bad ones for the future

I saw my surgeon today who was pleased with the xrays I had done last week - he said my ROM before surgery was 130/0 and now 105/2 - he is pleased with those numbers and said they should improve over the next 4 months when I see him again. He also cleared me to return to work on 3rd January as I have no available leave left after that. He explained the sleeplessness is normal and often improves greatly around week 12. He said the quad pain and emotional Rollercoaster is completely normal and will settle. I asked about stepping down from endone as I have only needed 5mg a day before I go out shopping etc - not so much for pain but it helps with the stiffness and the horrible feeling of the scar on fabric - he gave me another prescription for endone as he is about to go on leave but said I can take panadeine sold over the counter if I want to try something less strong. I met my sister for coffee after seeing the OS and I am now at the hairdresses getting a colour and cut so having a good day so far - i will post a photo - no laughing now ...

Love the picture Cait, had a rough nite, wife woke me at2 snoring, did not sleep well after that. The old paiin in my kneecap was going up my back , up doing a super ice and elevate now. Did a lot of stairs in the house yesterday, feet are even sore

Haha thank you mwetzel394.

Yes the sleepless nights are tough - maybe just for a few weeks you could sleep in another room so both you and your wife can get undisturbed sleep - or when you have those nights where you toss and turn all night she can sleep soundly - my OS said sleep improves leaps and bounds around week 12 - cant wait :)

@mwetzel394, your infant knee is awfully young to be doing steps numerous times a day. Can you set yourself up so you don't have to do that? The fewer times you can do those stairs, the better for your knee. I think hurting feet will come from your walking differently.
