You guys need to think longer range. I blame the the time I took off from golf before and after surgery, so two years later I'm still milking it. I took my driver out today. Choking up on it shows promise.

Well, I had my last PT session today (until I get the other knee done). My OS came in and asked me to both bend and straighten my leg - he just looked and did not measure. Asked me how the other knee was holding up with the cortisone shot he gave me, which has pretty much been pain free. He then basically suggested to the PT guys that maybe it was time to think about ending my PT sessions.

Before being released by my PT I had to fill out an evaluation form indicating what, if any, of my activities I still had a problem doing. He measured my flexion and extension (134/0) and did some things to check the strength of my leg. Then he "released" me from further PT with a handful of exercises I should keep up with at home. Now I can go back to my "job" (playing golf 5x/week) full time.

You're just a very determined hard "worker."

@JustJeff Actually, that has not been the case up to now. Other than ankle pumps, leg raises, quad contractions and heel slides on an infrequent and intermittent basis, I have not been one to do a lot of the prescribed exercises at home. I have depended on just doing my normal activities "with gusto", making sure I walk with the proper gait all the time and not shying away from doing anything by using the knee as an excuse. Even just a few weeks into recovery I wen to Home Depot and picked up several 40lb bags of top soil and spread it out over the front lawn as I top seeded. I also know that as the knee has improved I have not iced nor elevated as much as some people do.

I guess I am just lucky that my recovery has gone as well as it has. Hopefully, the left knee will go as well if not better. I am now thinking, if the cortisone injection(s) can carry me through, January would be a good time for that.

I really haven't iced or elevated during the day either but I'm active so I guess that makes up for it.

I didn't do anything yesterday except watch the U.S. Open on TV all afternoon, yet last night as I would change positions I would get a little momentary stabbing pain here or there. Then this morning the knee feels a little more "full" and stiff. Ah the ups and downs of this lengthy recovery! Of course, I am sure I am....

I happened to see this post andI cant figure it out either, some days when I dont do anything it still swells etc. Some days like yesterday, when I cleaned the upstairs of my home, I feel like I cant move my knee today. geesh

We all want this thing to be over as soon as possible but we can't rush things by wishing. Every time I see my OS he says "One year to full recovery".

I feel pretty good right now. Yeah I have aches and incision pain but nothing like the bone on bone. I was out mowing today and near the end I thought "Hey, my knees don't hurt!" What a great feeling. I still have those quad pains on the inside of the knees when I walk up steps or rise from a chair or toilet but who cares. Not counting the days to a year, just living better now!

Jeff, anything we are going through now is far preferable to what we were feeling pre-op, that's for sure. My right knee was so bad at the end that I would have had to give up golf were it not for this miracle of TKR. Might as well have taken me out and shot me.

Phil, we went to a motor muster where we sat in the grandstand for a few hours yesterday and today. I'm just past two years. Last year we went also, so I was just past one year. I can tell you I remember the difficulty I was still having last year sitting with my knees bent without having back support so I could stretch my knees out. I had to stretch them out. This weekend I had no problem sitting forward with my knees bent under me for an extended time. All this is to say that what you call full recovery can be defined with flexibility. Where you are at at one year may not be where you are at at 18-24 months.

Hi @Phil75070

I am so familiar with that full feeling in the knee. It drives me crazy when I know that I've not done anything to upset it. The dead horse scenario says it all sometimes.

This will bore you crazy as a golfer. I was a fly fisher woman. I haven't been able to do it for two years now. I'm praying the aspiration and cortisone shots to my TKR procedure works on Thursday. I want to be able to scramble round the lakes and rivers in the wilds like I used to. Some people fish sitting down, which I can't do for long without "setting" both pre and post op! but I am one of these who likes to be on the move, going to where the fish are at. On that basis probably golf might have been a better option really! Chat later love Nana moon 27 xoxox

@Phil75070, you are so right about what we are dealing with now being better than what we dealt with pre-op! I'll gladly take the stiffness and minor twinges I have now over the constant arthritic pain I suffered with for so many years. I can't believe that was just three short weeks ago!

@Nana moon 27 I could never be a fisherman just sitting on a bank or the end of the dock for hours. I don't have the patience.

Fishing joke for you. A guy was having an affair with his secretary and wanted to spend the weekend up at the cabin at the lake with her so Friday lunch time he called home and told his wife he was going fishing with the guys. Would she please get his tackle box ready and pack a suit case for him and please not to forget his silk pajamas.

The wife wanted to know why he needed silk pajamas and he told her they were up early in the morning, out in hip boots in the cold streams for hours and it felt nice to come in, have a hot shower and relax in the silk pajamas the rest of the day. So after work he swings by the house, picks up his suitcase and tackle box and heads out to pick up the secretary. Sunday night he gets home and no fish and his wife questions him about it. "They just weren't biting but I almost caught one. You should have seen how big that one that got away was!" he tells his wife.

"And that reminds me," he says. "why didn't you pack my silk pajamas like I asked?" "Oh but I did," says the wife. "They were in your tackle box!"

@LauraLeigh Time flies when you are having fun!

I have always wanted to fly fish, however, have never had the chance. I love fishing it is relaxing. Have not had a chance in a couple of years, but will again try this summer.
