Wow! Your body magically forgot all the errors and you swung naturally without all the doubts. The best golf I played is when I went to an executive course just for practice. With nothing on the line I couldn't miss a shot. Birdie after birdie! I was teamed with a father and his 12yr old son who thought I was a pro.
So the moral here is don't think about mechanics on the course! :)

Naw.. that was really rare. My best handicap was like 18.

Another good PT session today. Seems we have moved more into the "strength" stage than ROM stage. Quite a workout, but nothing that is bothersome to the knee. I really think my surgically replaced knee must be doing better because the discomfort of my yet-to-be-done left knee has become much more noticeable! I am now starting to question my decision to postpone the left knee until at least this Fall as opposed to having it done as soon as possible. However, I am not sure how I could deal with not being able to play golf for that long! :(

I still can't quite get full extension on my own but we got it there today with minimal pressure and really no discomfort during my 10 minutes or so of massage to end the session. Progress!

Phil, hindsight is 20/20 of course, and could have had a LOT more trouble than I did, but in the end I'm glad I had both done at once. At 1.5 months, I could go out (in a cart, even perhaps with cart rules. ) as it is, I started a bike ride, stopped to adjust the seat, tried to start with the pedal half way up, couldn't push with my quad at that angle, lost my balance and wound up in a stationary slow motion fall, it being broken by my foot on the wheel, bending the rim! Needless to say is in the shop. Then I mowed the lawn. All in all, a somewhat normal knee day.

As far as your bad knee, you might as well play this season, with pain killers and possibly a brace for the bad one. That was my last resort until I couldn't even do that. So get out there and bend them the way the holes lay!

I loved reading about your great round of golf! I love to play also but over the last several years it has been less and less! I didn't start until I was thirty and my handicap it a salty 24 but I hope to be able to enjoy it again soon!

Now it's a dream just to go to the driving range. My golf gloves will probably just Crack and fall to dust when I try putting one on!

The nurses here at the hospital keep telling me I'm so brave to have them both done at once but I think those of you who do them one at a time are much braver! I can't imagine going through this whole rigmarole twice. Of course I know PT is going to be challenging but I think I'll be okay...hopefully!

No. PT isn't more challenging, just more reps total.

Hey Phil, you are doing just great, I just noticed we both have the same brand implant. 110 percent happy so far. My OS told me yesterday that he has had only 1 failure in 14 years . Total ! Im cleared for work on june 10th and I see OS in 8 months. Theres nothing I cant do . However he told me NO high impact activities :-( best of luck. Iceman.

OK. . Now I'm curious. . What brand. There may be a pattern. .

@JustJeff For me, DePuy Attune Prosthesis Posterior Stabilized. The "posterior stabilized" is because my OS had to remove the PCL due to correcting a valgus deformity (knock-kneed on this knee). He said this particular model gives superior mid-range stability like you need going up and down stairs.

@icep707 If you enjoy your job and are looking forward to getting back to work, then congratulations on being cleared! If, on the other hand, you were looking to delay that a bit longer, my condolences! :)

Hah! I don't think I have the posterior stabilized but they are indeed DePuy! Could that be a reason why our recoveries have been better than others here? Does anyone else know their brands?

I got the Depuy Attune, but as far as the stabilizers, I dont have a clue. I do know for sure that my ACL was removed and perhaps my PCL . thats my story and im sticking to it. I do enjoy my job . Its given me so much and the crew is great. Its funny as im the old guy of the crew at 49 years old/young. When I go back , it will have been 4 months exactly. Im ready and rearing to go. In fact my manager suggested taking the extra month off. Im only way too willing to oblige. Best of luck guys . Iceman.

@JustJeff My OS said he is familiar with and throughout his training and practice has used a lot of the brands out there including Depuy, Stryker, Zimmer and several others he mentioned that I do not recall. He did say that he doesn't use one brand exclusively because apparently these surgeons expect and may depend on the company reps for a good deal of support and he likes to keep these guys "on their toes" by frequently using two or three brands so they "compete for his business" and therefore provide the best outcomes for his patients. I think most brands have models that are interchangeable in regard to the prosthesis itself. The Depuy Attune, according to my OS, is their equivalent to the Stryker Get Around / Triathlon Knee which is what we had discussed using pre-operatively.

Where there may be differences are the the jigs and tools that are provided as part of the package. Familiarity with and being comfortable in the use of these tools, as well as what makes the best sense for the patient all factor into which prosthesis, and from which company, is used.

Whatever the combination of part, OS, and genes were, they worked well with us.

I saw my OS today. Basically my 3 month check up. @ JustJeff, I should have asked for copies of my x-rays because he looked at them again, both pre-op and post-op. I'll have to remember to do that next time.

He asked some questions of me regarding how it feels and I told him that it feels like something was done to it and every now and then I will get a little "zinger" somewhere around the knee just to remind me that it is still in charge. He assured me that this, along with the occasional "clicking" is all quite normal. I told him that I knew I was doing pretty good because now I was more conscious of the condition of my left knee which is starting to remind me why I had the right knee done in the first place.

He checked the stability of the knee pushing on it in several directions and he measured my ROM. First flexion which he measured at 120 as I just casually bent my knee. I told him I could do better than that and bent my knee again and this time he measured 135! As for extension, 3* and he has no doubt I will get to zero. Just 4 weeks ago he measured my extension at 15*! He also measured my quad muscles and the quad on the right surgically repaired leg now is back to measuring the same as the quad on my "good" left leg. That is thanks to the guys at my PT facility and the exercise program they developed for me.

He said at the 25% mark to full recovery he could not be more pleased with my progress. I am "officially" cleared for all of my normal activities including golf, just be careful not to fall! I asked him if that was more of a concern short term and he said, no, it is a lifetime concern although more so with people who have weak or brittle bones which, fortunately, is not my case. He, at my request, also gave me a cortisone injection in my left knee to hopefully carry it into the Fall if not into next year before we schedule the LTKR.

The first few weeks into this recovery I would not have believed I was going to be one of those with a more positive recovery story to tell but here I am. I am sure the information, support and encouragement I have found here on B.S. has been a big contributing factor as well. Thanks, All!

Great news Phil! You're on the course before June! Just work on the range first so you don't embarrass yourself. I get normal clicking too. Normal.
3 months is only 1/4? I feel better now!
In other news my bike is now fixed so I'll get back to riding more.
