OK, I just "followed" a bunch of you. I got my pre-surgical clearance today. On the one hand, I was almost hoping there would be a reason to cancel or postpone, but I knew it wasn't likely. And, on the other hand, I want to put this behind me, so it would be agonizing to have to wait and rethink it again. As I suspected, I am disgustingly healthy (aside from not being able to walk), so it's on for July 15th.

Wow, we have a brave group of Sparklers . . . looks like @LHop and @iivesfam5 get a few more folks in the BTKR club with us this month. Welcome, @MsBlue BTKR July 15! Welcome @cowgal BTKR July 7! Cowgal, I'm 52 -- and you're 51, so we are almost twinsies.

@LHop, how you feeling? We are on deck . . . it's Tuesday (just past midnight) as I type! I'm staying positive and calm as possible. Wishing like the dickens there were a way easier than this to get rid of chronic knee pain. We can do this. We can tough this out. Short-term loss, long-term gain. Best wishes if we don't connect beforehand!

@iivesfam5, @Rob 68, and all our other Sparkler comrades--we will come back and check on you from "the other side as soon as we can. Please send good wishes to LHop and me for successful surgery, pain management, and recovery! Thanks :-)

Good wishes you got, Brooklyn. We appreciate you and LHop leading off; we cleanup hitters will try to drive you in and set up the rest of the lineup. Love the baseball lingo; you're likely too young to remember, but that 1955 Brooklyn team turned me into a lifelong Dodgers fan. Stay strong and remember recovery is a full baseball season of games, not a weekend series. :treadmill:

I have brought forward this month's list so that you can easily see who your surgical buddies are.

Welcome to our latest and all July Sparklers!

Welcome aboard, but I'm not the official gatekeeper. That would be Bottomshollow, I believe. My original date was July 13, but the OS office called and asked if I wanted to go a week earlier. Heck, yeah. So I'm on next Monday. Last time anyone cut on my bones was 1986, when I had bunions repaired/removed from both feet. That was no fun, but don't think it matches this ordeal. But it's gotta get done. We'll holler at ya from the other side when we get there. Or maybe whisper would be a better choice.

Bottomshollow - please add me to the list. I'm set for bilateral on July 7. Thank you!

My surgery is scheduled for July 20th. Scared to death.

I think bottomshollow (moderator) checks through the thread every so often and gets new surgery dates added. I understand your fear. This is major surgery but think about being pain free and able to do things we currently are unable to do.

We're all scared, Ella. Would be fibbing if we said we weren't. This is new territory for most of us, but the one fact that won't change is our knees will never get better on their own. Fortunately, this community of like souls can help all of us through this, and the good doctors we've selected will do the rest. Welcome to the Internet Cabaret, old chum. :type:

Well yeehaw, here we go @jbrooklyn , it's down to hours. I'm feeling okay. Of course, anxious and nervous, but as ready as I'm going to be. I probably won't be posting anything until Friday when it's planned for me to come home since I won't be taking my computer. Wishing you all luck!

Hi all,

I'm scheduled for a right total knee replacement on July 14. That's Bastille Day. Wonder whether the surgical team will be playing La Marseillaise and using a guillotine during the procedure?

I live alone and am anxious and worried about being directly discharged from the hospital back home. There are some logistical details in my home which I'm going to bring to the attention of the MD and discharge planner. But mostly I am really worried about being alone, in pain, doped up, and depressed about being alone, in pain, doped up, etc. Depression runs in my family.

I'm also diabetic, controlled with glucophage (sp?) right now. At the HMO's pre-surgery class, the instructor mentioned the possibility that a diabetic's blood sugar levels could be affected by the surgery, and that they might have to be on insulin -- hopefully just for a while. Have any of you had that happen?

Good luck to my fellow sparklers. Wow, July 1st is just minutes away! Hope it's star-spangled for all of us, here and across the pond and oceans.

Sarah Jane
