yep, that sounds about right, dressing off at 12 days - sounds like its all going well. I know what you mean about nurses and dressings, my first appt, her office was HUGE with MANY cupboards, but do you think she could find anything remotely suitable, let alone water proof? she was actually suggesting, that i get some dressings on prescription and use! In a very dark corner of a very high cabinet, she eventually found something that was just about Ok, even though small so she had to cut and overlap a couple dressings and then declared that was the last one! God help anyone else waiting after me, i reckon sellotape and loo roll!

I am naughty, havent even seen an ice pack today... just finishing off here then must relax a bit.

Hhmmm... I see the old Fairy dust factory has had a slight setback....as one of the 'guinee pig' users, I feel its a shame but customers are just so discerning these days and insist on a superior product - even if it is free (and virtual! ).

Hi Fernie, I hope you are resting with an ice pack on your knee.
Have you got much snow? We still have a few tiny flakes swirling gently through the air but it is disappearing off the roofs and cars.
Loved your suggestion of Sellotape and loo roll
I am wondering if I should send my devoted husband to purchase a couple of waterproof dressings before Thursday just in case I need any more. Good old NHS.

Hi Fernie, as soon as i got home from seeing the OS for my six week check I had a bath. Waited so long and it was brilliant. He had to confirm wound was clean and infection free. He also cleared me for driving too. I havent informed my insurance of op didnt know we had to but we are renewing soon so maybe mention it then. I was told not to drive until my OS had cleared it but I know many other people have drove before that especially with an automatic. Glad you are progressing well. Tell you one thing for sure. You resting and healing is more important than the cleaning Friends and family will understand if your house isnt spotless and to be honest no one will notice only you if its not up to the usual standard. Ignore it and rest well. Take care.

Hi Pat,
I find it interesting that we are all given different info by our different hospitals. A my pre op joint school a great emphasis was put on the importance of notifying your car insurance company about the surgery and not driving until cleared by the consultant at the post op check.
We all seem to get slightly different advice in different parts of the country.
A bath sounds heavenly. Something to look forward to.

Hi Fernie
nice gentle day ahead...sounds like a good one...I got the word yesterday that I can go for a swim(gentle) my scar is looking quite good so I'm sure it won't be long and you will be allowed too also.
The weather is still against it so whenever it decides to be nice...I'll be there. I know there are a couple of heated indoor pools nearby but I don't feel that's the way i want to go right now.

I know what you mean about the house cleaning... but it's really out of my domain at the moment and besides friends don't see the dust they come to share their love. My sneaky attempt at freshening up the house is to sprinkle a little bit of lavender(or whatever I've got )oil onto a damp cloth and gently wipe the hard surfaces...at least everything smells fresher. However we have had so much rain and wet this summer that the biggest problem is mould...I explained this to my husband and said the time worn remedy is to put 10mls oil of cloves in a litre bottle of water and spray the affected surfaces....then wipe them....however the small of cloves is yet to waft through the house.....

But that is all the time I'm going to spend on even thinking about housework for today....I know it's only 3am but I think I'll go make myself a cup of tea....

Hey Pat, how are you?

I was hoping id be able to swim and bath this week, all dependant on driving. I don't think the TKR affects the policy as such, just if an accident were to happen and the driver wasn't safe to drive.

Im not really doing much Around the house,just trying to keep it bit tidy, looking at mess makes me miserable !

So what have you been up to ?

Hope you find the plasters, not many places sell them round here, I had to try 4 chemists and then didn't get the really big oblong ones I wanted.

Im v tired and off to bed soon. Hope I get some sleep .....

Tomorrow, I'm going out to supper with some dear friends. Think I my Fall asleep in my saag aloo! This is part of my climatising (oops sp!) back to the real world.

Hi Fernie; Having a peaceful day today after a brilliant day yesterday with all my six kids, partners and grand children. One of my daughters took care of all the food so I had a day off. For once I didnt think of my knee once. There are so many different views of this insurance and driving thing. Up to the individual I guess. Having that first bath was so nice and its certainly helped my aches and pains in my knee since. Hope your meal goes well tomorrow. Nice to get back in the land of the living again. Take Care x x

Hello Kelsie Lou and a very warm welcome to BoneSmarties and I'm glad you've stumbled onto my sometimes crazy thread ! It's been a real rollercoaster ride for me as you can but I'm getting there slowly.

Hi all how are we doing? Ive been feeling a bit Since last night, hoping it would go overnight but still here. . Broken Again so that didn't help.

Got some friends over shortly so may do a quick bit of As not touched the bike for Couple days.
Knee really getting me down today, still sor and tight.... I'm moaning now !

This has been a long recovery for me, at least to my thinking. Like you, I am a youngin'. I was told that I had youth on my side. I expected to right back into my normal life about 2 weeks after having a TKR. Because everybody knew somebody who did really well, got right up without a problem, didn't need crutches or walker.... you get the idea. Well, that hasn't been me!

I knew I was in for trouble from the time of surgery. Pain meds weren't working for me. The nurses were in constant contact with my OS to find the right combination. I don't think we ever found it... I just made it through. Then the moving thing... I couldn't for the life of me move this dag gone knee. I was lucky that first day to have been able to swing (aka slowly scoot my bottom, slowly shifting, turning, twisting....) myself to the side of the bed to dangle. My leg stuck straight out and hurt like crazy! Then the water works started. This wasn't supposed to happen to me. I was supposed to be the one who bounces right back. I am ONLY 42!!!

Anyway, I stayed in the hospital for 3 days/2 nights. I am not sure what the standard is. My OS was considering another day for me because he knows how restless I am and didn't want me to get frustrated and try to do too much. Well, I just wanted to go home! So we did... I should have stayed another day just to get the extra TLC. :rolleyes: Oh well.

Since I have been home, I have been relying mostly on my 21 and 18 year old daughters and my Mom. They have been driving me around wherever I need to go - PT or go shopping for me or of course help out around the house. They have been pretty awesome. If there is a silver lining, it's how close it has brought me to those wonderful ladies.

My crazy home life consists of my hubby (who really doesn't know how to be empathic - I say that in a loving way because I have to accept it. He's always been this way, I just hoped he'd change for this surgery) and his 5 kids week on week off. Between the two of us, there are 8 kids ranging from 5 to 21. Three of them don't live with us anymore (my 2 and one of his twins). You would think that I don't have to lift a finger with alllllll these helpful bodies. Right!?! Ok, no.

Oh my, I guess you didn't ask for my history, you wanted to know where in the states, right? HAHAHA! I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Home of the Green Bay Packers.

Well, I think I need to take a nap after all of that. I am exhausted all of a sudden.

I must add that I am envious of all who can . I can't even do a revolution yet. I have a recumbent bike sitting in my bedroom. It's my stretching device right now, but when I actually get that O.N.E T.I.M.E A.R.O.U.N.D... I am gonna be really good at it... ... It will be a big event, we'll celebrate together.

I hope you feel better soon, poor thing. Take it gently on that bike, are you cycling to anywhere nice, through poppy filled fields and dappled shade? Meandering rivers and dragonflies?
No wonder you are felling blue, stiff sore knee, broken sleep, feeling sick.
This too will pass but in the meantime here is a big hug and permission to be very very kind to yourself today. Kick back and relax.
I was in a bit of a pickle at 3:30 this morning, I woke and couldn't find my magic medicine. I had knocked my little pot to the floor. My leg was the most painful it has been and I was desperate for a wee
I hobbled painfully to the loo, couldnt move fast as my leg was so painful, got there in the nick of time
When I got back my lovely husband got me my pain pills and an ice pack and a cuppa and I shed a few tears
I gave myself a stern talking too then lay and read my book till the pills and ice did their magic.
I am taking it very slowly this morning, no change there.
No snow here and lovely cheery sunshine,
