Interesting about the clean sheets, pj's etc. I wasn't advised about any of this but did have clean sheets the night before surgery. I also showered the day of surgery with a special iodine pad and dried off with clean towel and put on freshly laundered sweats. Don't remember any nose swabs...
As others have mentioned, right now your world is getting smaller and smaller. If I had known what I know now (and had found this site sooner) - I would have gotten this surgery earlier. But I was afraid and didn't have enough knowledge to feel empowered to make the right decision. This site...
Mcopt - that is a great reflective moment. It's funny - when I think of myself being fully mobile - it always comes back to the fun things I do with my dog. There is nothing like the excitement of a pup/pups running through fields and enjoying nature! You will do great! And we'll be waiting...
It's day 3! The first night home was the roughest in that I didn't have my pain totally under control. For me the key was hitting the pain hard (with 2 pain pills) then supplementing with Tylenol and alternative relief. That seemed to do the trick yesterday and yesterday evening. Once I got...
re compression socks - the nurse at the hospital rolled her eyes when I said the surgeon wanted me to wear them. I am taking 2 aspirin a day and she felt this was enough. She gave them to me, but ironically, I can't get them on!...I've been trying to walk every hour.
Mcopt - so sorry to hear about your Mom - my mother had pneumonia twice in the past two years so I know how this can be a worry. The last few days before surgery are pretty tough. Nervous, excited...scared - omg my emotions were all over the place! But before you know it - you'll be on the...
Hi Mascara! Having a lack of mobility can really limit your life, and as hip pain progresses, your world gets smaller and smaller, and you have to give up more and more. The gift of this surgery is you will be getting back what you lost! All of your feelings are completely normal. And as...
Hi Bone Smarties - I made it to the other side! My surgery was at 2 pm on Saturday. Initially I was concerned that it would be on the weekend (like would I have the "B" crew) but it turned out wonderfully as it wasn't crowded and I received A LOT of attention. The surgery took about 2 hours...
So...one more day! I'm as prepared as I can be...just need to do some laundry and clean up around the apartment. My sister is driving down today to spend the night and bring me to the hospital tomorrow. I had COMPLETELY forgot how awful the last week is without being able to take aleve...
Hi Mascaramom - I had my left hip done 3 years ago and am having my right done this Sat. I should have had the right done probably a year ago, but I am a bit of a medical wimp. We are all scared/nervous before our surgeries - some more than others. Please know that your doctors will...
Poodles - congratulations! Happy that you are home and resting/healing comfortably. I bet your dogs won't leave your side - mine didn't after my first surgery - she seemed to know that I was weak and kept her eye on me :).
For my left hip 3 years ago I had spinal with sedation. I told anesthesiologist that I did not want to wake up or see or hear ANYTHING. Also, I didn't want to see the operating theatre as that would probably have given me a heart attack. They gave me something before I was wheeled in and then...
Well I finally got my earring off! Went to a serious piercing place and the guy got it off in minutes after putting some special solution on the backing....so one less thing to think about!
Still have some errands - like getting the dog groomed, car serviced, food deliveries. But pretty much...
Hi - I used a walker exclusively for the first week with my left hip and then transitioned to a cane. I don't think I would have felt as comfortable with crutches....for me...a walker makes me look more downward...and I feel more "grounded" and safe...if that makes sense.
