THR Second one - hope it's better than the first

Just before I went into surgery the surgeon told me my most recent xrays showed my hip was a mess, one of the worst he has seen. He also said my hips come out at an unusual angle and that dislocating my hip for surgery will be difficult. I've decided that my unusual angle is the reason I'm not a...

    THR acetabular cup problems

Two of the best things I learned from my physiotherapist was stretches for my psoas and how to get relief from sacroiliitis by doing pelvic tilts. I pelvic tilt all over the place - before I get out of bed in the morning, before I get up off a chair, while at a stop light, while standing. The...

    THR Hi Ho Hi Ho....

It's great to hear you are both enjoying your restorative classes. When ready I'll be going back to my Somatic Yoga class where they'll put a massage table out for me so I don't need to go on the floor. My physiotherapist leads pilates classes (reformer, chair and floor) so I may go back when I...

How to prep for OS consult (LOL)

@AgilityDog I bought some second hand loose bottoms for recovery. There is swelling after surgery so I didn't want to be disappointed thinking I was gaining weight if my own clothes were too tight. When I got home from the surgery, wearing my second hand loose bottoms when a friend arrived, I...

I only wear sandals. In the winter I wear a Teva sandal that is fully enclosed but easy to slip in with elastic ties. They have great arch support and I no longer wear in soles. I hope you find footwear that works for you.

Pre-op done - getting ready questions

At the hospital I was at you usually stay 3 nights, I stayed 2 nights. They release you after they've taken another xray, monitored your vitals, used the toilet, done all of the physio sessions including walking and doing stairs. If the surgery is the first one in the morning and there are no...

    THR Kazann Recovery

Thanks @MammaT , yesterday was a good day, my night not as good but I plan to have a good day with a visitor and time to take care of myself. I decided to sleep in my bed last night but with all my prep and positioning, I woke up to find myself in an unsafe position for my hip and cats all over...

    THR Kazann Recovery

Thanks for the kind comments and insights. I'm not very tired today - had a visitor and a shower, hourly simple physio exercises, and, of course, lots of cuddles with my cats. This down time may give me the opportunity to clean up my computer. I wouldn't consider myself brave, perhaps curious. I...

Did you teach yourself to sleep on your back before surgery?

Yes, @Bumblebee, the second night at the hospital I asked the best way to sleep on my side and the nurse had me put the pillow between my legs and she put a pillow at my back. I found my feet were too low so I asked her to roll up a sheet to put between them. The pillow between the knees protect...

    THR Kazann Recovery

My left hip was replaced on Thursday, January 18, 2018. On the day of the surgery the OS let me know that they were running a bit late and my surgery would take 2.5 hours. He said that my hip was a mess with bone spurs on both the ball and socket which will make the dislocation more difficult...

    THR done

On the second night at the hospital I slept on my right side using a pillow between my legs and a rolled up sheet between my feet. The nurse also tucked a pillow in behind me. It was a great sleep compared to sleeping on my back the night before. (Posterior approach)

    Sequin98's Pre-op Journey

@MammaT - no, I had no pain during the surgery because of the spinal.

Did you teach yourself to sleep on your back before surgery?

@Bumblebee - it was posterior. Sorry I should have mentioned that.

    For the Canadians

I just got ceramic on Vancouver Island at no extra charge. The doctor said it's because I'm "young".
