THR Yippie Yippie.. Double Hippie!! (CricketHip)

@ceezee I'm sitting here listening to all kinds of fireworks nearby. I bet you guys are right about Musk melons.. I think my dad just put one of his silly twists on it for us kids, now that I think about it. He was always changing words to tease us. but whatever they are called, I love them! Ceezee do you know about Pete's Produce? West Chester? That's where we were today. I feel so much better, just getting out. I'm sore tonight but nothing that would make me take more meds or regret my day. @enoughpain I hope we are giving you hope! The first few days you'll have discomfort and apprehension, especially with it being your first and you will worry your movements will hurt something, but it won't. I think that's the worst , we are afraid we will do something wrong. just remember, it gets better fairly quickly and you will have meds to help you. It just feels so good not to have an unstable hip, it's an almost immediate result.. :ice:

@CricketHip Reading of your recovery experiences for each hip is definitely easing my pre-op anxiety and making me think that this is doable. Thanks you. Speaking of meds, I don't do well on percocet - makes me retch. Is that what you had or do you know of alternatives? I'm wondering if the anesthesiologist will be able to recommend a post-op regimen which doesn't include percocet.

I do terrible on Percocet. There are many different alternatives that can be used as far as for pain. Just talk to your orthopedic surgeon about it. It isn’t really an issue

absolutely! there are several options and if were me I'd start telling them about your reactions to it as soon as you check in for surgery. Like when the anesthesiologist shows up and goes over everything with you.
First surgery, I used Norco which is like Vicodin and I did well on it, and Tramadol, which I really liked. But because of a change in one of my daily medications I can't take Tramadol any longer. So they discussed at length what meds to use and asked me to try Oxycodone and I didn't think it would work but it actually did this time! Im only taking 1/2 the dosage and can also split the pill to even 1/4 dose.

You have options.. :loveshwr:

@J-nice @CricketHip Thanks for the info. You guys are a great resource. I've had Vicodin and I'm fine on it. Haven't had Tramadol, but would be willing to try it. Fortunately, I am on no other medications, so have no interactions to worry about.

There you go then!! Just be sure to tell anyone who asks and will listen. They are very good about those things. Very good.

My quads were so sore and tight also. Especially when first arising after periods of inactivity. They must stretch those suckers out like rubber bands to get in there.
Walking is definitely the safest way to let them get back on track these early weeks.

Hope today is a good day.
Going to have to find me a Mushmelon now...I love them.

Good morning, @CricketHip … seems you have got it down this time! Also, your knowledge of musculature, soft tissues, etc. is a blessing. What a nice time of year to be recovering....Now that I'm at 9 weeks, it feels fantastic! That is what is in store for you too....I said it before, but there is something sweet about this "down time", don't you agree? Enjoy your day xox

@Bfam85 - Hello Friend!! I ws just thinking about your recovery and guessing that you were well on your way to walking long distances, etc. You are so right, now I am in the stage where I can enjoy things and not yet worry about work. But since I am self employed it won't be long before I begin worrying.. is your LLD non existent now?
I think it was getting close but can't recall the end result. Wow! 9 weeks already!!

Hello again @CricketHip … I know, it's hard to believe it's been that long since I had my surgery on April 29th...You will appreciate this: My husband was watching me walk and he had me stand in front of him, knees bent a bit, and he told me to activate my lats without engaging any other muscle groups...When I did, I felt the tissues and everything else in front of my implant begin to move and stretch....After 10 reps, I tried walking....it was incredible! That was about a week ago....I am now walking normally!!! While my legs still don't feel completely completely, I will take it for now. My PT is also working on me manually, and I am starting regular PT since I am doing so well. I even rejoined my gym since she wants me using the bike a few times per week to get everything moving. I have been also doing upper bodywork there...feels like normal again....and it's only been 2 months!

You will get there probably faster than me, since I did have a couple of road bumps. How is the LLD with you? Has it begun to settle down?

I'm so happy you are already into your second week; Enjoy the down time for now! Enjoy Summer!!!

@Bfam85 I still think that I've a way to go, but we aren't comparing ourselves.. :heehee: I can tell tonight that I may have walked too much today, but it could be because I forgot (I think) to take my tylenol or at least forgot to write it down so now Im going a long period of time without-- just to be safe. Either way, I am sore tonight!
I can't really tell any LLD-- if there is-- then it's very slight, iso ts very hard to tell. So I hope that's a positive sign..
So, Teri, your husband asked you to bend your knees a little bit and activate your lats?? As in Latissimus Dorsi in your back?? I'm thinking that maybe you meant a muscle group in your legs or glutes? I think I need a little more detail here, but it sounds positive! You are doing very well! We did it!!! Times two! :happydance:

@CricketHip...If you cannot tell if you have LLD, you probably don’t! Or very small... I knew when I took that first step that I had it...Sorry, it was my oblique muscles! Oops Sorry you feel some soreness today. I know that when I have a busy day, I still ice and elevate at night...thankfully everything settles down the next day. Yep, we did it. It’s nice to do this double journey together ❤️

obliques!! That makes much better sense.. Most likely that helped you to release your Psoas muscle(s) and the other hip flexors.. that's a good little nugget!!
Yes, we are now Double hippies.. We are bionic! I was afraid it would bother me, like mentally. Nope! I'm just glad to be on the healing side of things and am proud of my matching set.

Man oh man.. what a night. My second night to wake up soaking wet.. to the extent of needing to change my PJ's and move to my recliner for the remainder of the night. I did this last time, too. My fever is gone but I still get easily chilled during the day but then at night? You would think that I had a 103 degree fever break!
I can't recall how long this lasted last time but I am hoping not too long.
I think I may be a wee bit grumpy about it this morning. :gaah: but I'm sure a nice shower will perk me up.

Hi @CricketHip
I'm sorry you had to deal with the night sweats and interrupted sleep. The need to change during the overnight must be no fun this early on when you still may be using an assistive device to make things easier.

You mentioned this happened last time. Is it the anesthesia or a medication you're taking that's causing this temporary inconvenience? I hope you got comfortable enough to get some additional sleep in the recliner. It was my bed of choice for the first three weeks after recovery.

A shower will make it all better. Enjoy and have a great Saturday!

This happened to me too! About the same time past the surgery as you are now. I have no idea what caused it. It felt like a really bad hot flash, which I hadn’t had for some time. I know it only lasted a couple of nights. :what:

Yah, I really don't know. But it happened last time and it also happened when I had a crush fracture of my elbow. So it seems to tie in with anesthesia and bone injuries? It shall pass, but @Layla you are so right, it's still difficult o get up and change and find my assistive devices at 2:30 in the morning! Thank goodness for my recliner chair!!
I do find that laying in my bed helps more with the swelling, though. I shall see what happens tonight!
the day turned out to be very lovely, my husband took me on a little car ride and I actually did some shopping in a quirky little store named Ollies. I love that store! Goodness knows why, but I do! then home to a good long nap.

Hi @CricketHip! Just wanted to say hello and congratulations on your second hip. I had an intense night sweat on the first or second night after my surgery, too. I thought it was from the trauma and the medications. I was on Oxycodone. (Percoset) It's so much stress on the body. I didn't get any hot flashes during menopause except for that one time. Mine was a bilateral hip replacement.

You always sound so bright and cheerful. Love your positive attitude.
