THR Yippie Yippie.. Double Hippie!! (CricketHip)

@CricketHip love reading your posts! Thank you! surgery this morning. I had Spinal for the first time ever in my surgeries. It was a weird feeling waking up, I was shaking like a leaf but it passed within 15 20 minutes Now it’s time to heal!

for anyone who happens to read this and are still waiting for you surgery date, just remember if you have a bad day, just cater to it! Rest, ice, elevate and in most instances it'll all be better the next day..

Hi @CricketHip hope you are travelling well with your recovery. I too had a set back in week 2, got a bit ahead of myself!! You are so right though, when you have a bad day, it’s your body telling to slow down girl!!
I’m getting used to waking up each day with new niggles and aches, but I’m not so worried anymore, and just accept them as part of this healing process.
Wishing you well for the rest of the week!

@CricketHip Thank you for these posts...so helpful and encouraging. And thanks again for the reminder about new shoes - that was very thoughtful of you!

:wave:Catching up with all the new hippies...and new double hippies...you sound very positive and was nice to see you take a step back once you saw things seemed a bit sideways!
Hope this finds you comfortable (as possible at this point) and assuming the position!:ice:

You are very welcome @Ptarmigan , we are all in this together. @Hippymel - I can't even imagine with having two done at once! I played around with walking without an aide and wondered how that's going to go for you? I guess you just know to take your time! @Jnice! you are awesome! aren't spinals the best? I'm a true believer now. I must find your recovery thread! So, I enjoyed a nice longer walk at lunch time then rested, napped and iced all afternoon. It was very luxurious. Then by dinnertime was able to descend the stairs and enjoy another meal at the dining room table. All in all I'd call this a very good day.

@CricketHip its great to see your positive attitude and I wish you a smooth recovery this time around! I am being told that I will definitely need a second thr in anywhere from 1-5 years and it’s hard to even think about right now as I get thru this healing, but obviously it’s completely doable and knowing what to expect can even make it better :)

I look forward to your progression!

@ShellKay13 why thank you! That's exactly the time frame that I was given with the second hip. I probably could have waited a while longer, but why? Now? I wish I'd done it last year! When I realized I would have a 2cnd one in my future I was bummed, too. But this second time was so much easier and I am repeating myself but my brain instantly dropped into all the little tricks to move and lift the leg. :tada:

Good morning hippies!! We are in a heat wave here on the East Coast, but I am happily tucked in my healing cave with AC and ice.. :snork: Yesterday was my week anniversary and I celebrated by walking with a cane.. primarily because we had a vet appt. with both our dog and cat and I wanted to be there to ask some questions. I did really well but was glad to return home to the healing den. I'm still using the walker since its so much more stable but I'm noticing that I am walking away from it on a regular basis- so I think in the next couple of days I'll be a full fledged cane user!!

I love this stage of the healing, still early enough that I get pampered but far enough out that I feel a little less dependent! :walking:
We have a raised garden and hubby has presented me with a huge batch of green beans... so exciting! And it's something I can manage, snapping them.. woo hoo! So tonight will be green beans with ham, onions and potatoes.. one of my favorite all time summer meals. The onions are from our garden, too.

@CricketHip Yay for the cane! I'm almost there but not quite. I practiced with the PT today and she thought I mostly looked ok but was still leaning a bit harder on it than optimal so advised a few more days mostly with the walker. It does bring independence though. Your garden fare sounds wonderful.

@CricketHip @gertie
Wow, you girls are sailing along in recovery. And your dinner tonight sounds yummy. I miss having a garden, but the bugs, the animals, and work, finally after years of a huge garden and canning and freezing etc it went by by....we have too much wildlife, they eat everything.:dubious:

@Cecropia well as you know, it's a step forward and sometimes two steps back! :snork: I'm still using the walker at times today. When I get tired the cane seems to affect my balance. But it's fun to try the cane when I'm rested and iced up. `
the dinner was fantastic. I love a good summertime meal. oh and I understand about those big gardens,, I lived on farms most of my life and had large gardens,,, and what work that was!! That's why my little raised garden is just enough to make me happy. So, I'm still so surprised at my swelling. any and all activity puffs my leg up and tonight it's my foot and ankle again. I didn't think that I was that active today but I see I'm up to 5,000+ steps. Interesting.. maybe I will try to chill out a bit more tomorrow and see if that helps the swelling.. it doesn't coincide with pain so that's a good thing. We are debating whether to drive down the road a bit and watch fireworks. We can actually see most of them from our house but putting our yellow lab in the car with us seems to comfort him.. I'm just not so sure about the heat,, it's still very warm and humid here, tonight. Maybe it's a "watch the fireworks from the yard and eat sherbet" kind of night. :) :-) (:

@CricketHip When we were first married, we were so in to our garden, we were hippies, we had beads in our doorways, beanbag furniture, strobe lights and posters, loud music, party party. We used to hire a guy to plow are garden it was so big, I canned everything. I even made my own baby food when the kids came along. Wow have we changed. We are sophisticated now.:rotfl: I kind of miss being a hippie, oh I am now, just a different kind. :rotfl: Enjoy the fireworks!

Howdy @CricketHip
Great news of progress coming from this thread!:yes!:
So tonight will be green beans with ham, onions and potatoes.. one of my favorite all time summer meals.
Mine too! Love fresh picked veggies. We have been munching on yellow squash, zucchini, and silver queen corn. Delicious!
Maybe it's a "watch the fireworks from the yard and eat sherbet" kind of night
Sounds like a good plan.

It is stifling hot here...and chances of afternoon pop up thunderstorms so don't know it that will put a kibosh on our grilling and chilling plans.:umm:

Have a Happy 4th!:tada:

Hello Bonesmart peeps! Its been a good day, more time on a cane and less on the walker. several times of walking away from the walker and taking a few steps before realizing. I love this stage.. but I'm definitely getting a little antsy. I ventured out to the front porch this morning and hubby and I played a game of checkers. By the time I lost :censored: I couldn't wait to get back inside, out of the heat and find my ice packs.. then we decided to take a drive. We drove to this wonderful produce market place that is always fun to go to. We packed up Rooney ( yellow lab ) and we had a good time! The reason other than my being antsy? I wanted a nice ripe watermelon! My sweet tooth has been rearing it's ugly head and I am hoping watermelon and cantaloupe ( we called it mush melon as kids) will help with my cravings. I didn't feel that I needed my walker but I wasn't ready to trust using one cane on uneven ground at the produce stand so I took two canes.. worked out great.

I also took time to lay flat on my bed and do some of my exercises- only to my comfort level and then I did some deep breathing and meditation.. felt so good. I figured I would swell more with being out in the heat and from the car ride but I think it's less this afternoon... noticed it as soon as I awakened from my nap.. yay!
@Mojo333 gotta love that sweet corn.., we picked up some of that also. love freezing some for the winter months,, hoping I'll be able to do that later in the month. I don't do much, but love to have about a dozen quart bags in the freezer. We've cut back a lot on our carbs intake over the past couple of years and can't have as much corn.. bummer..

Im definitely sore.. the quads and IT band especially but not pain. I feel like my quadriceps are about 2 inches shorter than they need to be. I practice using good mechanics when walking because that in itself seems to help stretch them a bit. I also find that I am forgetting my pain meds for a longer period of time before retaking.

baby steps!!

Wow youare coming along awesome! Being 3 days out from surgery I really can’t complain. Pain meds about every 6 to 7 hours, sit in the rented recliner for about 45 min at a time, walk a little around and my daughter is making the best healthy food!! The PT is coming over tomorrow..all you guys helpful hits on PT I will keep in mind when we meet!! As you say ‘baby steps’!!

@CricketHip
It sounds like you are doing great and making steady progress!

It is definitely fun to get out and especially fun to go to a market. As I’m also here in Philly I agree that the weather this afternoon here was brutal and then the heavens opened up. We were all set to grill some mussels and had to wait. Mussels on the grill is one of our summertime favorites. We started with cantaloupe draped with prosciutto. And we also picked up a cannoli to split from a nearby Italian market we’re lucky to have. A nice easy summer meal. The original plans were to eat outside but way too wet.

Enjoy the rest of your evening! I wonder if we’re going to hear any fireworks tonight. I doubt it.

Funny you called it mush melon as kids, we still call it musk melon, and as kids, so now I'm wondering was it mush or musk, you call it, we are so close in words. lol.

Not to get too technical but muskmelons have many varieties, two of which are called cantaloupes. All cantaloupes are muskmelons but not all muskmelons are cantaloupes.

When and where I grew up we called them muskmelons. :chinstroke:
