@beachgal
That is pretty much how I have lived my entire life. Don't sweat the small stuff and the big stuff will eventually take care of itself. Actually looking forward to PT today...hopefully my knee will cooperate. Will post more later...have a wonderful day all my BS buddies.

Hi Nana757 again!
I didn't register that you are only 7/8 days away from your op. Have you had your PT today. It such early days but you will be going forward albeit on a roller coaster! its 10.30 in the evening here on a warm summers evening. Can't complain. Take care

Day 8
It was a wonderful day today. Slept through the night which was sooo nice. The facility has fixed the security alarm. Hopefully tonight will be just as peaceful. But as I write this, the jet traffic from the nearby airbase might put a kink in that idea. I actually have had no problems sleeping as long as the pain meds are administered regularly and the facility noises/interruptions are kept a at a minimum. I can see myself sleeping all night long once I get home.
Had a good scrubbing this morning although I still need this nasty head of mine washed....but oh well...that's what ball caps are for. My dear sweet husband arrived just in time for my back to back PT/OT sessions. He is now aware of what he will need to do to help and motivate me when I get home. Walked all Around the facility with no hesitation or limp. Then we did the stairs. I have 17 stairs to climb, when i get home, to get to our living quarters. All the garages are on the ground level. I managed to go up and down a set of 4 steps 5 times, just using the hand rail. Piece of cake!!!
Did 20 minutes on stationary bike and 15 minutes on the arm cycle. I expect to be a little sore tomorrow, but am thrilled that I could do this. I sooo need to tone up these unused muscles.
Nurse practioner came in and checked my incision. She said my incision is healed completely and looks wonderful. The staples can come out any time, but she will abide by the OS's orders and protocol. She said maybe Monday or Tuesday.
Ohhhh, that first shower is going to feel so good. It's the little things in life that bring such joy and pleasure.

I hope you all have had a day as great as mine was! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. Have a wonderful night everyone.

@Nana757 you are doing great and I love reading your posts. Deliveries do make us feel better. Weepies and crying rants are normal. Let them flow and we do not mind trying to cheer you up. Although you are cheering us up with your funny tales. I would have killed someone with the alarms going off. Noises set me off in general so kudos to you for surviving. Hugs, good thoughts, and caring hands!

@Nana757 It sounds like you really have this under control and you're progressing well. Good luck and long may it continue.

Last night was wonderfully quiet, once the boys in flight jackets decided to put their jets away for the night. We are right in their flight path and get the full brunt of the noise. Anyway, I got my schedule last night, for today, and it showed I didn't have any PT until 2:00 today with no OT scheduled at all. Boy was that wrong. 6:30 this am, the OT shows up at my door and informs me "it's time". I said, "for what?" Well, I was the 1st on the schedule today and I asked, not so politely, who the ogre was that put me down first. Really, birds don't even get up this early, and certainly not me! So after uttering a few expletives, I got dressed and did my weight and cycle routine. 45 minutes later I'm back in my bed but now my usual morning routine has been disrupted. I WAS on a good roll...
Oh well..I'll get over it.

Just had the nurses aide rub my feet with some lotion....ohhhh....I think I'm in heaven. It felt just sooo good. Think I may have to put that on MY list of requirements...maybe 2-3 times a day. Dang, that sounds like a good plan. Don't you think?
Wonder what the rest of day will bring?! Happy day to all!

Hey @Cynthia777! I do my best. Funny...when I was in school, I was always tagged the class clown...even though I am extremely shy. But I love to put smiles on faces. Just makes me feel good...
How are you doing?

@AndyH99 : do I detect a little Trekkyness in you?

@sunbunny: thank you so much for the thoughts. If I continue to feel the way I do now, I don't see any more weepy days in my future.

And yes, @CricketHip, this surgery is a miracle.

Between the plate and screws in my neck from 2 surgeries, plate and screws in my foot when I broke it 2 years ago and now a hip replacement, I feel totally bionic and expect to leap tall buildings in a single bound once I am all healed! :heehee:

@Nana757
I think I would be posting a note on my door declaring not therapies of any kind before 8:30 am!! lol
HOw's a gal supposed to get any sleep??
You sound bright and cheery. Here's to continued progress with your hip. :yay:

Thank you @Medfordart. It's been a ride. And so far, all down hill. Hey...been meaning to ask you where in Jersey? I was born in Red Bank and spent the good part of my younger years in pt pleasant, manasquan area. You anywhere close?
And @CricketHip, they now know not to mess with me before I have my morning coffee and my required morning poopoo...otherwise, as the saying goes... It will fly!!!!

Okay...I'm hoping someone has some ideas for me. I have developed an annoyance and can see it's going to cause lost sleep. And anyone that reads my thread knows how important my sleep is to me. My feet are beginning to ache big-time. The heels are more achy than any other part, but it is beginning to spread. It's almost a burning feeling...doesn't really hurt, but is quite annoying. Any advice would be accepted, with open arms!

Hi Nana757,
My heals began burning then itching and i found it was irritanted by heals rubbing on mattress when I was sleeping on my back. The answer was to have a towel rolled up underneath the back of the ankle area to keep the heals off the mattress (a Bonesmart tip) Don't know if this helps.

For achey feet in general I find that Zheng Gu Shui (Rightbone Lotion) works wonders. It brings blood to the area and makes the area feel calm. I used this went i first broke my foot and it really calmed it down but once I had had surgery obviously could not use it! Otherwise lots of massage or epsom salt foot bath? Just some of the crazy things I would do. Hope your sleep is protected!

Thanks @copsham for the suggestions. I actually had tried the rolled towel already, but that turned out to be more uncomfortable than the burning was. The nurse did get me some medicinal cream for the rash and itching on my back that we tried on my feet. It seems to be working, so far. Plus, I soaked my feet in a basin of good hot water for a while, which felt heavenly. Think I'll do that tonight too. I have a mini foot spa at home and believe me, I will put that bad boy to good use when I get home.

All in all I think I'm doing pretty darn good. Have very little pain...just muscle soreness for the most part. My PT today included stretching more of my leg muscles, standing between the balancing bars. It actually felt wonderful and I even took a couple of steps aid-free. Obviously need more time for that to be the norm, though. But, at least, I know I can put full weight on my hip/leg. I look lop-sided...big time! I am assuming that will even itself out eventually. Still don't have any bruising. Is that normal? Been waiting for it to show up, but nothing yet. Guess I should count my blessings....which I do anyway! I have to admit, though, that I am a very vain person. I've never gone out of the house without makeup on and hair done. It's driving me absolutely nuts that my hair has not been washed in days. Thank goodness for pony tails and ball caps...geeze...I think I've said that before.

I hope all my BS buddies are having a wonderful day!!!! Love to all!!!!

@Nana757 Hi, yes there is the tiniest bit of Trekkie lurking around but it keeps itself well under control:)

I'm almost a couple of weeks on from my bilateral now and I've only really seen some significant bruising coming out in the last few days. Almost all of both my legs have a tinge of yellow with some rather amazing swirls of red and purple showing up all the way from my anterior scars right the way down to under one foot (still trying for figure that one out). So yes, in theory you should be normal.

No comment on hair and makeup - I haven't got enough hair on my head to worry about any more and I tend to keep my make up use quiet - lol. I'm pretty sure it will feel damned good the first time you're ready for a significant trip. Not sure on your setup, but have you considered a mobile hairdresser visiting you rather than worrying about a salon?

Have fun and keep the recovery rolling.

Thanks @AndyH99 for the little giggles you gave me. Sounds like you have quite the rainbow going on. The nurse's aide and I took a little stroll down to the beauty shop that is here in the facility....but, alas, no dice. The chair had to be put so far down and back that I couldn't get my legs comfortable enough to last through the wash and rinse and I was afraid of breaking the restriction. So...we hung it up. Guess it'll just have to wait.

I have the utmost respect and admiration for anyone that takes on the bilaterals. I only needed the one hip done, thank goodness. Could not imagine having both done, at the same time. But I guess like anything else, if it's necessary, ya suck it up and gitter done... Still takes a brave soul, in my opinion. And by the looks of things you are doing remarkably well. Keep it up!

@Nana757, I could not shower for two weeks but managed to find a hair salon at day 10 which was heaven-sent. Such a small thing but large in our eyes. Hubby tried to recreate the scene from "Out of Africa" when Robert Redford washed Meryl Streep's hair in the desert but it it just wouldn't work. Loved him for trying, though. Loved him more for finding the salon and driving me there. Hugs!

Hi @beachgal! Great to hear from you. Hope you are doing well. I decided this afternoon, come hell or high water, my hair is getting washed tomorrow. I figured I can use the 3in1 toilet they have in my bathroom and put it in the shower area, hang on to the grab bars, lean back, and have my hubby wash it for me. Probably could've had the aide do that today, but it took me a while to figure it out. Hopefully, I'll be getting the staples out tomorrow and won't have to worry about it anymore. Can ya tell it's become a thorn in my side? I'm a little OCD when it comes to my hair...no surprise there.
Did a little housekeeping in my room, tonite, and then went for a stroll around the facility. Before I realized it, I was walking limp free and barely hanging on to the walker. Felt really good!
Getting settled in for the night. Waiting on the nightly meds and my foot rub with the medical cream to ease the burning and itching. Hopefully, will sleep better tonight. darn....if it isn't one thing, it's another...
But I am not going to gripe if that's the only thing that's annoying me. I feel very blessed. Have a great night and sleep well.

I feel good! I knew that I would now! :egypdance::egypdance:
Just graduated to a cane!!! And I'm going home Sunday. Wish it was tomorrow, but since I haven't seen the house Dr to ask about my staples, it's just as well. Would rather go home stapleless. Have I said "I feel good" already?
Sorry, I hate to gloat but this is such good news and considering where I was 11 days ago, this is just amazing to me that I have recovered this quickly. My husband swears I'm an alien.
