Will new knees be good enough?

Gene...my hubby did something similar. He put 2x6's pm the reclining couch. It makes it much easier to manuever in and out after surgery. However, when I come to visit you will you give me a step lad"der to get in your recliner. My 5'2"legs will be dangling!!! :rolf: I can see it now.

Glad you found a way to make your recliner more comfy.

BTW, my son is 6'5"

Barb,

I will start construction on the ladder, this weekend.

I guess you stopped corporal punishment when you son was 8 yrs old.

Next week I start pre-surgery physical therapy and other Dr. appointments to get clearance for surgery. Getting close. Getting nervous. Not panicing yet.

Anticipation and anxiety meter is beginning to rise.

Oh bless! This is the very worst time, isn't it? And it will get worse, of course.

But just remember, the anxiety is all mind over matter .....

...... if you don't mind, it doesn't matter!

Your well thought out decisions have set future actions in place. Enjoy the ride. Think of it as another life experience or adventure like rafting the Grand Canyon.

Gene, we are here for you. I agree with Jo, the waiting just before the op is the worst.

Be sure the keep posting. It does help!

Gene....what everyone is saying is soooo true!!! It's easy to be anxious in the days leading up to surgery. Thoughts run rampant! Try hard to keep yourself busy doing things you enjoy. And, of course....come here to BoneSmart and chat with us! We understand how you're feeling.

Today, I went to the dentist hoping to get clearance for surgery. Unfortunately there are significant issues that will need to be attended to before TKR can rake place.

I am not shocked but I am not happy either. It will be another week till I can see the Dental surgeon and schedule the work that is needed. Hopefully, this can be done promptly without too much delay.

I will touch base with the OS's office tomorrow to see if I should get a new TKR date now or wait till I have more info.

I want to get going on these knees, emotionally this is a big downer, There are all kinds of ways I can beat myself up over the dental issues but I will now pay the price and keep moving forward.

I am scheduled to go for my first pre-TKR PT session tomorrow. I am not sure whether these sessions will need to be set back or not.

arrrgh.:th_2tantrum2:

I'm so sorry, Gene. But......it really is best to get any big dental problems far behind you before you go through the ordeal of a knee replacement. You won't regret that it has worked out this way once you get back on track.

Bummer Gene! But Jamie's right - best to get things sorted now and not have that worry post-op. Sure hope you can get a new date quickly.

Please keep us updated!

Gene, like you, I had to have a root canal/crown done before my surgery. Glad I did it. I can't imagine dealing with tooth pain/antibiotics along with the pain of surgery. My credit card is groaning with the $, but we'll deal with that *later*!! Good luck and git 'er done! :th_sigh:

Home from first pre-surgery PT to get baseline evaluation. ROM Rt Knee 125 & 8 degrees. Left knee 120 & 4. Hammies tight, calves a little weak, quads and hamstring strong.Obviously the extention is not in a good starting place.

Oh well, Rt knee is going first. Talked about a lot of stuff that I have already learned from the smarties here. Gave me a good basis to evaluate them, while they evaluated my knees.

Impression was good. Moving forward!

You are doing good Gene, hang in there. My surgery is not till May 31st and I cannot wait. I have 1 crown yet to do, and the other should be ready now. I am glad I am getting this done, but it is hard to be patient. Your total focus will be on your knee, you will get there.

I went to second pre-surg PT today. Their goal in to strrengthen muscles and increase ROM pre-surg, if possible. They were pretty good.

The positive take-a-way though was when two therapist started talking about all the knee sugeries going on and then one says "Teah, especially that Dr. McDonald he does tons.

Well, no need to guess. He is my OS. Good to know that he seems to do a a big enough number and gets high marks from the hostpital outpatient PT folks.

That's a great indication of a good surgeon. I know it made you feel good about your choice.

Well that must have made you feel good. You picked the expert! Well done!

Hi There!
I am like you, just awaiting surgery. My date is March 8th and I am totally nervous. I just think of all the things that I will be able to do after surgery and that keeps me going. I see that you are in Annapolis, I'm in Baltimore. What hospital are you going to? I am going to Hopkins. Good luck to you!

Purplekat,
I considered Hopkins, but my cardiologist and others were very complimentary about the Hospital in Annapolis. They have a dedicated Joint unit, do a large number of knees and the surgeon I am working with seems impressive.

With all that I decided to stay local. It certainlt eases the logistical issues since I live alone and will have to depend on other for transport.

Good luck with yours and let us know how it goes.

Busy week this week. Joint Center at hospital called to schedule Joint Camp tour etc and go over pre-surgery prep stuff. Nice folks, good vibe.
Stayed on the phone for 30 minutes or more going over issues, options etc.

Tomorrow is dentist again and pre-sur PT, Wednesday dental surgeon, Thursday is GP for blood stuff, OS follow-up and more PT.

I expect the Dental surgery will set the knee surgery back 2-4 w2eeks but I hope that will get decided this week so I have firmer targets.

Not exactly the way I wanted it to go but what is a few extra weeks after all these years of pain. Also, better to get the dental issues cleared up before opening up the knee.

Moving forward!!!
