@sharonslp I am so sorry that your so has been through such a traumatic experience but I am so glad that he is improving and is able to have the bypass surgery.Wishing him a very good recovery.Sending good wishes to your daughter for her wedding day and hoping that you all have a wonderful day.

Thanks @Kim22 . :) Have you been able to get back to any walking since your THR?
I am afraid that I haven't done any hill walking since 2010 when I developed a torn labrum. My recovery from the THR has been very convoluted.I was ok for the first 7 weeks but at this time I sustained a groin strain which took 3 months to heal.At the same time the other hip started to hurt and to cap it all off at 9 months I developed psoas tendinitis.I haven't been able to do inclines yet but can walk on level ground of about 2-3 miles with rests and as long as the left hip is not too bad. However having said all that and obviously I am not yet where I want to be I am so much better than I was before my op so for that I am very grateful but I haven't given up on my dream of hill walking again. We have a caravan on the North Northumberland coast and we used to love walking in the Cheviot Hills.Take care of yourself in your recovery and try not to do too much in the early days.

Th sound like some frustrating ups and downs @Kim22 ... The North Northumbrian coast is really beautiful - I wish I had a caravan there too! :) - I hope you get up those Cheviots before too long!

Thanks @Sharri. I think I was mostly still asleep at 2.5 weeks! :sleeep: Now I've stopped the prescription painkillers, I feel like I'm emerging from a fog!

Bill @fulafoto , thanks. :) I've been out taking more photos - mostly macros... Nothing special, but my camera is new (well, second-hand but new to me) so it's been fun to play with it. :)

FionaW - What a very nice and very well written spin on the Goldilocks tale! I really enjoyed reading it!

Sharonslp- So sorry to hear about your significant other. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I wish him a speedy recovery. Take care.

6 weeks today. Discharged from the orthopaedic rehab team. And told I can swim and drive so long as I still keep the 90 degree hip restriction... :) Called my insurance co, but they weren't really very interested!
Seeing my consultant for my 6 week check on Monday.

Here's my scar today, compared with day 9 - a month ago. It's looking pretty good I think! :)

Your scar looks great.. Mine is more lumpy.. Hoping it will smooth out.. I am about 2 weeks behind you..Are you using anything on it?

Hello Fiona. Your scar is looking really good! I am so happy that you are doing well! Enjoy your swimming! Take care.

It will make a BIG difference to me, Bill! @fulafoto :) I took the car round the block... I still seemed to remember how to drive it! So then I drove my son 5miles to his dad's - he's staying there tonight - saving him an hour-long journey by bus and on foot. I feel set free! :spin: (Though I'm shattered now and may need to go to bed soon!)

@psychteach , mine was more lumpy 2 weeks ago, too. That's when I started massaging it (gently) and, yes, rubbing vitamin E oil into it. The lumpy bits seem to break down quite easily. There are still a few left, but I think they'll be gone within another couple of weeks. :)

@FionaW - a beautifully healing scar! I'm sure in a year or two it'll become a hardly noticeable white line and nothing else. Inspirational for me :)

I've noticed your signature today - I have all the same things: hyper mobility, other joints and RTHR. I'm just a month behind you with the surgery (06/09/14).

Thanks @allahere :) Interesting to hear you're hypermobile too... Has it affected your THR at all? My hips have never dislocated, but I used to be able to rotate my right leg out and round so that my foot pointed backwards! The rheumy thought that might make the OS unwilling to operate, but thankfully not. The arthritis seems to have made me seize up like an old robot anyway!

Well, you weren't wrong, Bill @fulafoto ! I got the 'all clear' to drive and swim on Wednesday pm, and I went a bit mad...!

... On Weds I went for that little drive, and went into a shop all by myself!

... ... On Thursday, I did a bit of gardening with Number One Son in the morning, then went for a swim, sauna and jacuzzi in the afternoon... :swim:Then #1 Son 'remembered' it was his end-of-course show reel event (he has just finished his film and radio course (yes, finished. Phew!) so we went to that, and I drove... Then he went off celebrating with his college friends but #2 Son and I were hungry, so we went out for a meal... And I drove there and home...

... ... ... On Friday I resisted the urge to swim again... Instead, I walked down to the doctors to collect my new sick note. I was pleased that it took me about 15 mins each way, despite the very steep hill (approx. 1:3). I was even more pleased that the doc has signed me off work for another 2 months. :thumb: I rested in the afternoon, but in the evening I then went out to meet friends at a great little bar where they serve pizza and cocktails (including non-alcoholic ones!) and have a roof terrace, where we sat in the evening sunshine and early darkness until after 11pm!

... ... ... ... Today I drove to a nearby wood and went for a walk there with #1 Son (#2 Son went to his dad's last night and has gone to a friend's birthday sleepover tonight, so I haven't seen much of him)... As lovely as our local park is, it was fantastic to go somewhere new, and we hadn't been to this wood before - it is full of large, mature trees and #1 Son did some climbing (I thought I'd give tree-climbing a miss today! :climb: :snork: ) Then I drove to the local Asian supermarket and bakery, and bought fruit and veg, and some samosas and bhaji for lunch. :) Then this afternoon (can you guess?!) I crashed (what a surprise!) and snoozed outside in the sunshine, even though our neighbour was banging and drilling noisily (he is clearly building a second-home at the bottom of his garden!)
I have been invited out to a gig AND to a separate party tonight... I'm off out shortly...
:heehee: JOKE! I'm knackered and not that much of a fool! I'm staying in and having an early night tonight! :sleeep:

And I'm happy to report I've had no pain and no swelling - just (hardly surprising) extreme tiredness. It IS marvellous to feel like I'm beginning to get my life back! :egypdance:

So I was right Fiona :snork: - you've become a real stop out and good on you too. :thumb: It is marvelous that you have done so much and in no pain or swelling!!! I am really really pleased for you :happydance::happydance:

What a good day! I'm 6 weeks and 5 days post-op... Saw the consultant, who said I'm doing 'better than expected'... Restrictions in place for another 6 weeks, but I don't need to see him again for a year.
Then had my first post-op outdoor swim, in glorious sunshine, in a beautiful spot.
Spent time with family and friends, drinking tea and eating good food outside in the sun.
Then went singing... :)
Swimming and singing and sunshine and friends.
And a fixed hip.
And almost no pain. :egypdance:

Yup, looks like you were right, Bill @fulafoto ! :rotfl:
