**** Upstater i just noticed in you sig block it has Finger Lakes in it. That is where Sue and I enjoyed our honeymoon what a beautiful place. Some of those wineries with the views would make great homes. Peace be with you
randy62 Yes we live in the Finger Lakes region of NY. But my husband would be jealous of you because I believe the muskie fishing is good in Wisconsin. Yep the grass is always greener.........
There's no 'textbook normal' about these things. They happen when they happen and that's all there is to it. As has been said sooo many times on this forum before "everyone is different" but the reality is - it's true!
Upstater hmmmm maybe I'm selling myself short! I am quite nervous of long lasting soft tissue damage, and it hurts in the groin to climb more than one step "big girl" fashion. So I don't. I do practise stepping up onto a 4" step, but 9-10 reps is about all I can do before the twinge starts. I did go right down the very broad shallow deck steps (all 4 of them) last week by accident, but the knee pulls uncomfortably going down regular steps, so, again over-caution takes over!
To counterbalance this, I'm really good at bending over to the floor LOL.
LittlejemJosephine Thanks. I will be 8 weeks Tues. when the brace comes off. I was just curious what others have experienced. My knee will probably be stiff so I will have to loosen that up first. Only four more days!
zauberflöte Thanks. That is very informative! You can bend to the floor? Wow. I'm jumping the gun probably but it's so hard to know what I could be doing if I could bend my knee. I will know soon enough. Patience, that's right, patience.
randy62 You are too funny! I wasn't talking stairs day 3! I'm approaching week 8 Monday. I was just asking what I may expect when the brace comes off because I'm doing them 2 feet per step still. I only drag myself upstairs to shower. My husband prohibits me from going up unsupervised. Our dog is always under foot on the stairs. Not a good thing.
randy62 you are tooo funny! Good thing the toilet is not up on a step....and, does your dog always go around sideways?
Upstater I had anterior approach so never had that restriction, so I'm cheating on you LOL. So since I posted I've tried a stair every time I go in and out the house (we have no interior stairs) and I guess I can do one. But not consistently. And it can't be the first one. And I have to have a running start.
Monday's only a few days away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Upstater I will bet a batch of brownies that after you get the cast brace off, you will progress like nobody's business, and the cane will soon become a distant memory except when you're out and about. I carry mine in case I need to whack anybody with it!
zauberflöte I soooo hope you are right. I have 2 thoughts for Tuesday...he's going to make me wear it longer or he's going to say "I can't believe you actually wore it 24/7. Nobody does that, everyone cheats." Lol
Upstater oh nooooooo he can't say wear it longer!!!! Surely by eight weeks enough healing has gone on that he can say you are graduated to the 90 degree rule? Or no rules at all??? ? ? but I bet you're right about the second choice LOL
Upstater, It's going to be great! You'll probably have to do exercises to start bending the knee and overcome some stiffness from having been held absolutely straight for so long. But the freedom of getting rid of that brace is going to be incredible! Keep us posted...
randy62 No, not visualizing any dancing of any kind. I'm going to move on to my next complaint (that's what I do) and want to be rid of the cane. I've really tried but the left leg (hip) just feels weak. That's the only way I can describe it, there's no pain at all, just weakness. I obsessed over giving up the walker for the cane, now I want to progress to no aids. And when I do that I can move on to something new to whine about.
