Oh I need lots of help getting out of and into bed! Legs don’t want to lift on own at all.

Only a couple steps into my house but one big flight to my bedroom, and that’s where I want to be. No adequate sleeping/healing space downstairs. I assume we will start trying stairs today?

You know... I bet my headache is from no caffeine! I start my days with 2 cups of coffee but haven’t had any in 2 days. Hasn’t sounded good. Maybe I’ll have greg bring me Starbucks later.

:umm:Log legs...Those legs need help for a bit...they are just traumatized and your body is working over time to promote healing.
I felt like my legs were not listening to my brain until I stood to walk.
All temporary...
Try to relax and roll with it for now.
This too shall pass...

Just had PT... walked to the “gym” and was able to very slowly go one foot in front of the other (I was doing the catch up game before).

But the big news... went up and down 4 stairs!!! It was so odd... very hard but without all the groin pain. I was terrified!!! But it wasn’t as hard as I expected.

I could possibly go home today but I’m honestly not in a rush. I’d be content with one more night. Still struggling getting into and out of bed.

You sound like you're doing great and I'm thinking the getting into and out of bed is kind of a given with all you've been through. Don't let them hurry you off if you don't feel ready. I know when I had my back surgery they were in such a hurry to get me out of there I wasn't even offered breakfast! I get it was Thanksgiving day but come on!
:heehee:

@Elf1 going home on thanksgiving day could be worse that staying at the hospital... what an odd day to get home!!

No one is rushing me out, thankfully
They would maybe move me to the PT floor for one night but not sure yet.

Jenny, you're are doing so amazingly well! What an inspiration you are.
If you're not in a hurry to go home, I would stay the extra day / night. You could get more comfortable with the stairs while your there. I'm sure PT will go over it with you again if you ask.

Any discomfort you're dealing with must be very well managed. Or possibly you have a high pain threshold and a strong desire to get home to your sweet little guy.
Wishing you comfort and a relaxing day! :)
@JennyLynne

@Layla thanks, I’m going to take your advice. I just feel a little icky today and still have a little more PT work before I feel ready to tackle my home.

For what it’s worth, my doctor believes I have a fairly high pain threshold! He always said that with my knee... couldn’t believe how long I pushed through it. And, I also learned the Bonesmart way to stay on top of the pain and not try to be a hero. [emoji1377]

I have a pretty high pain threshold also. My feeling is sometimes we can kind of crash after that initial high of realizing surgery is behind us, that horrid pain is gone and that bright future we've been fantasizing about is within sight. The Energy Drain does set in and it's all part of the healing process, you're body is doing just as it should and all of your energy is being used for healing. If you can lounge around and get waited on for another day and night, take advantage, you bilateral Wonder Woman. You've had a great start, maybe you could use some serious chill time today.
Hugs!

Jennylynne, that's quite a feat to do 2 at once. I'm using my good leg so I can't imagine what it would be like to not have use of it. Hopefully operated legs will regain at least some of the strength back sooner than later. It's a nice day here. Had take some meds anyway so went out to the deck for about 10 minutes. The warm sun feels wonderful

Just got up to use the bathroom and I really feel that morning session. 4 lousy stairs, feels like 4,000. Can’t believe how sore I am.

I will say that the single hardest thing to do is to get from laying in bed to sitting on the edge. Unbelievably challenging

Work with PT to change position. They may have some tips for you. You do need upper body strength so it may be a challenge.

Like many others here, I can't even wrap my head around how you are doing it at all. I found getting up & down exhausting and challenging the 1st 4/5 days with one hip! Coming home was like starting over because I lost the bed rail to grip. You are doing wonderfully though and I am amazed at your progress!

Thank you for the encouragement!! I really am so grateful for this forum!

Took a very short walk with PT and I’m aching but it also felt good to move a bit. Will try for one more shorty this evening.

Just read your earlier posts... getting my period before/after surgery is one of my biggest fears! And mine haven't been particularly regular or predictable since having my baby eight months ago. So I could be in for a surprise visitor too. Guess that's the downside of having a hip replacement at a young age. Glad to hear your recovery is going well so far. One day at a time, right?

:hi:You are doing just great!
I was nervous about going home...but once I got there..I realized I could get more comfortable (as much as possible for a new double hippy)
Hope today is a Good Day!

@Mojo333 I agree, there’s no place to heal like home. Glad I stayed last night because I woke up today feeling better and I’m pretty sure I can manage the trip home and that one daunting flight of stairs. Just need to make sure I don’t blow all my energy on PT this morning.

I will say, getting from laying to sitting is really the hardest thing. Going to ask PT/OT to work on that with me today before I go. Don’t want to call my hubby every time I need to pee!!!!
