Bilateral THR Twice as Nice - JennyLynne's recovery

Glad your safe home. The first 2 weeks are really the toughest and particularly so for us bilaterals. Take care and take it easy - do NOT push beyond a pain barrier (it's there for a reason), sleep when you can, let your loved ones do the work and before you know it you'll be through the other side. Nights are AWFUL but as someone else has said that too will pass. Do read the bilateral threads if you haven't already am sure it'll help.

What a little cutie pie your son is.
I'm sorry you had a rough night. Thankfully it sounds like you have it under control.
I hope today is a good day!
@JennyLynne

Your son is so cute! Does the head of your bed go up?! I would love that feature right now. It is miserable and raining here too so a good day to be lazy, watch a movie, take a nap :)

@Carriemay60 my husband talked me into a sleepnumber bed where we have 2 mattresses in one frame- the feet and head go up and down independently. I fought and fought- didn’t want to spend the money. Well let me tell you... best money I’ve ever spent!!!!

Hi, read your whole thread with wonder. You are definitely a fighter like most on BS. I'm in Lansing MI. If I get the go ahead my surgery will be in Eaton Rapids, a smaller hospital, but my surgeon does knees at Henry Ford Allegiance in Jackson. I sought him out with help because I have a nickle allergy and he does oxinium replacements, and uses Eaton Rapids because they do not tell him which implants he has to use like Jackson. I think you are awesome and a brave young lady. You will get through this, and crying is okay. :cry:Your son is adorable!!!

Forgot to mention, mine is a left hip replacement.

Omg it’s been a CIRCUS here!

Home nurse came and stayed for 2 hours... I know all about HER ailments... and her kids... and her husband... and so on.

Literally the moment she left, home PT showed up. She redid all my vitals and observations that the nurse had done, plus exercises.

In the middle of it all, a notary showed up to get my signature on some documents related to my mother in laws property that we are selling.

Finally... FINALLY... they are all gone. I just want some peace and quiet!!!! [emoji86][emoji86][emoji86]

Gosh just what you didn’t need.. a houseful if strangers... hope you are having a rest now.
I’m amazed at your fortitude having two hips done & having a sense of humour still... but you will soon get your life back & be up & around with that handsome son of yours... hope the rest of your weekend is more peaceful than today x

OMG - a circus of visitors is the last thing you need. Feel free to tell all to please "get lost". Hoping you get a bit of peace and quiet to recover!

@JennyLynne that is my biggest concern, being able to get out of bed by myself. Now that I know it’s a valid concern, I’m going to practice it using the hip precautions. I think I need stronger core muscles. I’ve also ordered a bed rail that might help.

Thanks for your invaluable insight! Youll always be 3 weeks ahead of me so I’ll have an idea what to expect.

Was about to take a nap when one last visitor arrived..... the [emoji90] fairy ♀️ !!!
She is so very welcome in my home anytime!!! It was awful... truly horrible pain... but ahhh the relief!!!

@jwadds I don’t have trouble getting out of bed, but can’t get my legs back in without some help. They don’t lift like that yet and I can’t seem to find my balance to use a strap on both legs at once. With my knee, I was able to use a strap to hoist the bad on in while balancing on the good. So keep that in mind! And some advance practice is good... better mindset for sure!

Hmmm Hoppy... I used a trash bag in the car but hadn’t considered it for the bed... maybe get some use out of some old silk nighties that haven’t been out of the drawer in ages![emoji15]

I took Hoppy's advice and used a bag for getting in & out bed the first week. Made a big difference to me and I could lift my bum enough using my elbows and good leg to get it out. I could slide over to a better position much easier so I didn't feel perched on the edge of the bed. Happy for you that digestion is kicking in again! Hopefully you finally got a good rest in!! I would be taking the batteries out of the doorbell with people showing up like that!
