Bilateral THR Twice as Nice - JennyLynne's recovery

Thanks @Layla definitely less sore today. Lots of ice last night and this morning has helped.

Friend is bringing over lunch soon - will be nice to hace some company. It's finally NOT raining, so she can supervise a little walk outside.

Unrelated, but we have this great "sun room" that has the worst couch - uncomfortable, low, awful. i just ordered a new one so I can finally *comfortably* hang out there. Assuming spring shows up for good...

Great news you're feeling better. Lunch with a friend sounds nice.
So does a new sofa. Love new furniture....as long as it's comfy aside from looking good.

Glad you are a bit more comfortable today and I am sure a bit of fresh air and some nice company will help even more. Having a comfortable sun room to hang out in sounds perfect! Have a good sleep tonight :)

Just had my home PT discharge appt. It was the “lead” person, and she had me doing much more difficult exercises, for much longer. I went along with it, for some reason- and ended up in tears. I didn’t realize it was too much until too late.

But, she discharged me at least. I’ll call to schedule outpatient now. And be more mindful.

Won’t be working much this afternoon. I’m going to wrap myself in ice and watch some bad tv.

@Mojo333 I would like to try some additional PT. I have dealt with the effects of being born with bad alignment in my hips and knees and it impacts my recovery - posture, gait, etc. Also have one original joint remaining to protect! I am returning to the team that I worked with for my TRK and I think it will benefit me. TBD...

As far as today... I ate a quick bite and climbed in bed... put on 90210 reruns and fell asleep for 2 hours! Feel much better now - haven't napped in over a week and I clearly needed it today. If the rain clears out, I will take a little stroll after dinner. Maybe. Probably not. Haha

Hi @JennyLynne Sorry you had a rough day. Exciting to look forward to a new couch. I have been looking at our furniture with new eyes after this last few months. Will never order anything again that isn’t supportive. Everything low takes such an effort to get out of.

My two cents on PT, I have not had any. OS, very cautious, with broken femur and said, no. Well, I’m progressing nicely on my own. Maybe a couple weeks behind most here. Shortly after moving to cane have no trouble with stride now either. When cleared I think I’m just going to walk. Easier to schedule. Look outside, decide to go!

Hope your nap and ice helped!

We think alike and I opted out in favour of cooking a really nice dinner with a bit of help and a couple of nice and some long chats. I have felt a bit off centre all day - still not sure why.

@JennyLynne It's been said many times here - hips don't need much PT. HOWEVER the muscles, tendons, etc around hips, in legs, back and beyond may in fact need PT to achieve proper functioning - particular if one like you has had a long time of dysfunctional joints! I limped for 3 years prior to my BTHR and spent about 9mo doing PT afterwards. It took about 3 months to get left foot up onto right knee .... and 9 months to get right foot onto left knee.

Also be aware that some PT folks specialize in one area of the body ..... my first shoulder PT gal was seriously concerned about my crossing my legs during our first session and exclaimed "But what about hip precautions? You're not supposed to do that are you?" She was legitimately surprised to hear hip precautions were only in place for about 6 weeks post op and I was 2 years post BTHR op .... and had spent a long time getting muscle in shape so I could cross my legs!

I hope the sun is shining on you so you can get outside for a stroll! It's supposed to get up to 90 today in Oregon!

Just got back from lunch out with a friend - I drove myself and met her there, but it was nice to have a hand with my crutches and the doors etc. She texted me at 11:30am and asked if I wanted to meet, and I immediately said no. And then I realized that I only said no because I was nervous. So I went and it felt so nice! Tomorrow I think I will go get a manicure!!

Thanks @SarahBee - I agree! I was definitely tense the first few minutes after we sat down. Took me a while to just relax and enjoy - I had already done the hard part!

Here's a funny... my friend was talking about tickets to see a comedian. I said - "Oh fun - when is that?" She said "Uh.. you and Greg are going with us! You already paid me!"

I looked back at my bank activity - I paid her on the day of my surgery. Apparently we had a whole conversation and I insisted she get tickets and I sent her money. I have ZERO recollection of that!!

Glad to hear you are getting out and doing things!

Good for you for getting out! I’m curious, do you find that sitting for a long time increases your pain and swelling? What’s your limit for sitting currently? I want to join my family at the table for meals, but I’m still afraid to sit for too long. Am I being too cautious? Should I just do it and then ice after?
