Bilateral THR Twice as Nice - JennyLynne's recovery

My husband is the renaissance man. He rebuilt the bathroom for my impending surgery and he does the vacuuming, gets the food order,cooks and can do just about anything--makes me feel totally incompetent now--though not his plan. He has always been a doer (as I was) which is why I am so depressed now--not being able to measure up. We have been married 40 years though and have worked together. What is difficult for him is if I express any fear or concern which is why I come here. He can't handle this so I really have to put on a happy face.

Three weeks today! I’ve been looking forward to this date... with my TKR, it was a big turning point where I felt like I was getting back into some of the “normal” stuff in my life.

I seem to be on a similar schedule this time- drove and went to lunch yesterday, sat outside in the afternoon with the neighbors. No longer feel so isolated.

Today, I’m going to start working a bit from home. Think it will be good for my spirits (and hopefully not detrimental to my stress levels!!)

You have such a great attitude @JennyLynne I am so impressed that you are driving!! Don’t know how you do it with two healing hips. What is it about restaurant chairs. Have had same issue. Having my legs down for an hour is what hurts the most. It wonderful to get out, but my chair always looks great when I am back. Hope you have a great week!

You are just amazing... a cover girl for bi-lateral hips @JennyLynne [emoji126]

I’m so pleased that your progress is where you thought it would be... slowly getting back to some normal activities ... and driving.... jeez.., go that girl [emoji8]

Thank you all! I will tell you... having been through TKR first... really, this is loads easier. Even two hips can’t compare to one knee! (Already dreading knee #2 but let’s knock on ALL wood that it isn’t for a long time)

Drove,wow--you are something--can I get some of what you got.But I know all that you are doing is hard work and you are ailing as well but 'driving' yourself--go girl.

It's wonderful to read you had such a "normal" day yesterday, Jenny.
Driving again too! That definitely helps you regain the feeling of independence.
I hope you feel fullfilled in getting back into some work. Depending upon what you do for a living, keep in mind that sometimes well intentioned co-workers may expect you to handle your normal work load because you're back. To some it's like if you're back...you're back.

Happy Three Week Anniversary and Happy Monday!
@JennyLynne

Happy 3 week “hip”-aversary @JennyLynne. :cheers: Sounds like you are doing amazing. I can only imagine how life changing this whole experience has been/will be for you. You have a lot to celebrate. Your son must be so proud of his mommy!

Sending a hug and wishes for a brighter day today. :friends: :SUNsmile:
Hopefully you slept well and are feeling refreshed this morning.
If not, let us offer you some love....we're here for you, Jenny! :loveshwr:
@JennyLynne

Can someone tell me if I need crutches, cane and a walker? Also my bed is high and can not be lowered. Did anyone else have this problem and what did you do?

@Layla I know what you mean... it’s hard to ease into work. Fortunately (unfortunately) I’ve been through this before, with a broken foot, pregnancy bedrest, PKR and TKR- all with the same boss.

It felt good to work. I took frequent breaks to stretch/walk/rest. Hard to find a comfy spot. I tried to sit on my bed today, which bothered my shoulders. May try my desk for some time tomorrow. I have a really good chair, but it may need a blanket or something to soften the seat.

@LAbabymama my son thought it was cool that I was working when he got home from school. He knows it’s a good sign!

@Tarajeane - personally I use all three. I use a walker upstairs and crutches on the stairs, downstairs and out of the house. Will graduate to a cane soon enough. But many don’t use crutches - they go from walker to cane.

Our hospital likes to get you straight onto 2 sticks/canes @Tarajeane even whilst in hospital but I used my walker a lot when I was first home particularly for in and out of bed and night rambles. A high bed is recommended too - we had to measure loo, bed, armchair, kitchen chair and have special lifts under the feet of the chairs and raised toilet seats.

Got my sx time yesterday. June 5 @ 7:30 Am. So glad I found this message board!
Glad to hear you are doing so well!!

I did not use crutches. I came out of the hospital with the walker and graduated to one cane. Still have my cane but using it a bit less in the house. I still have a slight limp so in no hurry to lose it entirely. :old:

I have to say, today is the most uncomfortable I’ve been in a week. I have groin pain for the first time and it doesn’t let up.

I tried out a cane a little yesterday with PT and in the kitchen and it wasn’t easy. I also took some ugly unaided steps in the bathroom last night for no good reason. I’m thinking this is the culprit.

Pushed too hard. Paying the price!

You have so much more reason to have pain than I. Michigan weather? I went a week without Tylenol or NSAIDs. Felt so good Sunday, I worked cleaning our brick front pathway sweeping and hosing winter dirt off while supporting myself with cane. Was okay yesterday, but today in much pain. The rain, the dark dreary days of MI do not help matters. I just gave in and took 800mg of Motrin. I think of you every rainy, cloudy day, because it is so depressing and sunshine is scarce. Should be used to it, but never will be. Hope you feel better my MI friend.:console2:

:sigh:It's how we know how much is too much..definitely still early days.
Assume the position:ice: and chill !
Healing hugs.
