TKR Turning a Corner with My New Knee

week 15 ,,first thank you @Celle,@RLK for your advice,,my best week yet,,using nothing but crutch to get around,,saran wrapping still at night,,sleeping all night except bathroom breaks,,hardly any pain unless l over do,,l made 3 walks out back to my woods,,this was nearly impossible to do 2 weeks ago,,my knee still stiffen up before l go to far but hoping that lessens in a few weeks,,l am self employed and even thinking of working again in a couple weeks,,wearing compression sleeve days helps a lot,,be loss with out it,,everybody who's stopped around has seen a differences ,,even beer taste good again lol,,my ROM is still not good but to fixed that l quit worrying about it,,,,l do my back and forth with the petals on my exercise bike and a couple other things and call it good,,just maybe l am back to living again

Well, if beer is tasting good again, it sounds like you're on the mend for real. LOL.

week 17 not much difference then wk 15 l see a surgeon asst. last week at the V.A she told me to come back in 2 months and if knee not bending any better l might have to have a MUA.,my ROM l believe is still less then 90 ? l have started working some again,l do construction but l wear out quick, the top of my knee still swollen some, aches on and off, but quit taken anything for pain wks ago, doing short walks with a crutch in one hand and a cane in the other, still moving petals back and forth on exercise bike getting closer to top with petal atleast 2/3 of the way there ,its been a long road,,l wasn"t going to post again til l had better news but was afraid l would never find my thread again,

The thread sure falls down quickly, doesn't it? Bookmark it in your browser while you can find it!

Little bit of work is good to take your mind off things! I am surprised the PA (?) you saw didn't want to go ahead with an MUA, but then again it's the VA?

I still have that swelling at the top of my knee, too. One of these days it'll go down.

I too still have some swelling at the top of my knee but it's more annoying than problematic. They warned us it could take months and months for all the swelling to go down and, unfortunately, it appears they were right.

Sabbath, I hope the MUA does the trick for you. It might be just what is needed.

@tigz the Dr. Assisting told me the system is broken when it comes to the V.A something to do with Phoenix ??l know my OS is no longer there,,@Kansas Teacher there is a good chance l might give me my own MUWA in my line of work,,l have a mobile home now my son and l are putting in larger windows ,then a deck and 2 roofs to do,,l am self employed and 4 months without a pay check hurts,,l need to get moving again,, my S.S retirement starts next month so there is a light at the end of the tunnel,,l am fortunate

I'm glad to hear that. And yes, I'm afraid the VA system is in disarrays -- very unfortunate.

Roofs? Decks, windows I can see...not so sure about a roof, unless your son will do most of the work up there!

@tigz l will be the ground man both roofs will be metal, my son will do all the roof work this time around..without him l would not take any jobs,,my knee it would almost be impossible for me to be on a roof,,l did put rear brakes on my grandson car yesterday,,that was a lot of fun figuring out how to set on the ground and then to get up again but then again a month ago l never could have done it,,so things are better, much better,,now to learn how to walk again with out support of some kind,,my manta is give me 2 more weeks,,lol trouble is been saying that for months

I'm just now considering getting into the ground, because I now feel able to get up again. I'm still not anxious to do this, and I certainly wouldn't want to have to do it where anyone could watch. It's quite a production.

Boo! But so glad to hear from you @sabbath! I figured you were stuck on a roof you shouldn't have climbed on!

This is a VA doc you'll be seeing?

Hi, sabbath. Good to hear from you. I'm so sorry you don't have better news to report. I hope you get better options at your next appointment.

6 months today,,l think l am finally turning the corner for real this time,,l beat my 10 month grandson walking,,l didn't think that was going to happen,,l had x rays taken last week,,they say nothing is wrong with implant,,l can go upstairs using both legs'' the hurting has let up ,,l still use a crutch but can walk some without it if l have to,,l meet with a surgeon on nov .30th for discussion on a MUA,,l guess l am going to be one of the people who takes a year to recover that's all,,l was going thru some bitterness and depression from thinking things were never going to change,,that has lifted now ,,the day l was able to do the stairs turned things around in my head,,the clunking l thought l could feel has let up,, my ROM is still not good but that's where the MUA comes in l reckon,,working is getting easier for me so that's a plus,,l leave my crutch at the bottom of the ladder,,lol
