Revision TKR Totally recovered at last!

Thanks @Jamie It didn't happen to me in the hospital but waited until I got home. It totally surprised me as I really didn't feel I had to go but it was about time for me to make a visit. One good thing came out of it was one of my TED stockings got wet so I had to take both off. They had pulled my left leg one up and actually over the incision which did not feel very comfortable between the stinging of the incision and staples and also because my leg as so swollen it was very tight behind my knee.

Here in PA a doctor won't call in or mail a narcotic/opiod script. Someone has to pick it up at the drs. office.

It's against the law. It's one of the laws they put in place when 'everyone' who takes them gets addicted.

I'm having more problem with putting my whole weight on my new knee than last time. It wasn't until late yesterday that I could actually touch the floor with my heel at all. I'm very sore today. Got my ice machine going and it works great. I'll just take it easy today.

Hi @newlybionic just read your entire post. Good grief you've had a real tough time. Hopefully things will settle down for you soon. I kept any of the leftover pain meds from my surgery in June thinking my second surgery would be this Spring. Now that it will be a little later and in Connecticut they are thinking about changing the law so that docs can only prescribe 7 days of pain killers at a time, I'm glad I did. Once again, those of us who use meds correctly are paying for those who abuse them. Feel better Marian, I'll be thinking of you.

Hi Marian,
Just popping in to say that I'm thinking about you. You've been through so much, I hope things smooth out quickly.

Hi Marion,

Just getting caught up with you! I am so glad for all your small improvements. Hopefully, the itching has stopped--I had that too (drove me crazy.) I had a little incontinence as well and it resolved. I wonder if your OS is allowed to mail your prescription to you? An hour drive would be very tiring at this point. Alternately, can your local general practitioner write the prescription? I'm sure the gp and the os can talk with each other.

I'm about to read an article titled, Annals of Insomnia: In Search of Forty Winks in The New Yorker. Here's to sleep!

No mailing of narcotic prescriptions. Has to be picked up by patient at the Dr's office and patient is the only one that can get it filled, not husband or even a helpful neighbor. Really makes it difficult.
My GP sees me every 3 months and gives me one prescription for each of the 3 months in between visits, but a cannot fill before X date is written on them. At least I don't have to run in there every month.
I don't usually use all 3 scripts but knowing this surgery was coming up I got them all filled over the past 3 months and I now have the peace of mind that I won't have to go without because OS only writes one script that lasts 2 weeks and that's it.
I call it my "insurance" plan or maybe rather an "assurance" plan.

Hi,Marian,
Thinking about you daily, and hoping that now you are home you will start to see improvements. It's still very early days and you have been through so much. I hope you can get your meds sorted,it seems ridiculous that there is so much difficulty obtaining what you need. We have a similar thing in the UK where it's difficult to get even things like kaolin and morphine over the counter, because people have been abusing it.
Sending lots of loving thoughts and wishes for a good recovery.
Love, Tabbycat :kittykiss:

I had some Minor incontinence after a catheter, and also a UTI which lasted for months, and turned out to be irritation caused by the catheter rubbing the urethra and the inside of the bladder. I wore panti pads for a while in case I couldn't get to the loo on time. It settled down eventually, fairly quickly I think. I used the loo regularly just in case.

Hi Marian, hope your swelling keeps going down. You certainly have been through an awful lot ! Sounds like several people have had that bladder issue. Your body will get itself working properly in time, hopefully soon. We are all praying for you, and hoping for a steady recovery this time. Here in New York we have to pick up paper prescriptions ourselves too, that makes it so tough sometimes. Hope you have been able to solve that issue.

Good morning Marian. I hope you can find someone to drive you to get your script. TED hose are a blessing and a curse. They keep the swelling down, but oh how they hurt. Could your GP communicate with your OS and write your pain med prescription? That would make it much easier for all concerned. I hope you have a comfortable day. Keep focused on the end of the 4 week Dark Days. You can make it.

The prescription can be mailed to a pharmacy and be ready to go when you get there. That is what I did for my second refill of pain meds. They told us about that at the joint replacement class. We were told to set aside a few days worth of pain meds and call for a refill when we got to those. After a couple days I called my local pharmacy and asked if they received the prescription, they had and it was ready to go. My wife had no problem picking up the meds for me when I needed her to.

I'm a bit nauseous today and I have a headache. I'm now in search of that elusive poop fairy!:chuckmarch: I haven't been doing very much walking here yet. I'm stuck in my family room. My youngest daughter will be home tonight to take down the dog gate since I can't get through it with my walker. I've kept it up because my middle daughter is working from here and I wouldn't want the dogs barking when she is on a conference call.

I am starting to get a bit stronger every day. I'm starting to be able to do some small leg raises but I get sharp pains after I do 1 or 2. I'm walking with my whole foot on the ground which I couldn't do two days ago. I'm doing a little walking back and forth in my family room a few times a day. ( after I jog on into the bathroom):walking: My youngest was with me when I came home from my surgery the first time so I asked her to compare how I'm doing with last year. She told me that I would just fall asleep when I was talking to her. That's not the case this time. I've taken a couple of naps here and there but I'm not feeling out of if. We think my doctors or the hospital were giving me the wrong amounts of medications for my other medical problems and they over did it.. It took a few weeks to get that straightened out.

My spouse filled all my narcotic prescriptions. He had my ID with him but did not even need to show it.

My husband filled all my prescriptions. He had to go to THREE different pharmacies to get them all! Have you checked with the OS to see if it can be mailed or checked with your GP? It will be a long weekend with Easter! Are you drinking plenty? A headache can be a sign of dehydration. I know with your bladder problem, you may be trying not to, but it is essential for the :chuckmarch:. Good luck on that! I am sure you know all the "fixes".

I guess that is a good thing with the VA, I never have problems with the pharmacy. They even mail my pain meds which I sign for when delivered. I know in AZ it doesn't matter if you go to different pharmacies because the state maintains a database that is checked. I know at the pain clinic I worked for ran a pharmacy report on each patient for their appointments. Hopefully your meds will be straightened out soon.

I do have enough meds for a couple of weeks but I'll run out before I get back to my OS. They said they might be able to have PCP prescribe them and then my friend could pick up the script and take to the pharmacy. I checked before surgery to make sure someone else could pick up my meds and I was told they would have to show them a drivers license. That office is about 30 minutes away. I know there's something I missed about living in a city!

@Josephine When my OS did my revision he said he found pieces of cement free floating in the knee as well as the poorly tracking patella. He also said I had a lot of scar tissue. I was wondering if I would be more likely to have scar tissue with this surgery. Do I need to do something post op this time? Was the scar tissue caused by the extra cement and the patella? Thanks for your info.
