Revision TKR Totally recovered at last!

Thank you for your encouraging messages ladies. Praise God that you don't have any infection. You have enough to deal with! Your previous doctor's group is the pits! They should be closed down!! I have been fighting knee problems since my early teens and am so afraid I'll end up worse off than I am now. I see my OS on the 13th for the last surgery information and follow up. I had asked before if he had done any TKR on knees without kneecaps and he said he hadn't, but it wouldn't be any different than a knee with a kneecap. I have called other OS with no luck. I just don't want to end up in a wheelchair! But, with this arthritic pain my life has slowed way down anyway. Seems like a no-win situation without the replacements, but I'm scared!

@sistersinhim Its normal to feel scared. We all did. But you have had this problem from a young age and it now bothering you so much you can't enjoy your life anymore. I injured my knee right before I turned 18 and it has been all downhill since then. Write down all your questions so you get all the answers. Write down the answers too so you can remember them. You'll be fine. We will all be here for you. If you've read the other threads on this forum you may see some have had bumps on the road but they do make it through to the end and are happy they did. I wouldn't attempt the surgery again if I didn't think I would be better off.

@newlybionic: Thank you so much for taking time out of your recovery to encourage me! You, and this site are a huge blessing to me and I plan on being here for many years. Soon I'll have to move over to the pre-op forum site, but you all on this side have so much experience to give to me. I was planning on having the BTKR, but I don't believe my legs are strong enough to do that. Hopefully, if it's God's will, I'll get both done in 2016 and have a wonderful 2017 to look forward to and hundreds of new friends here! I will continue to pray for you and so many others that are having pain and problems.

Glad there is no infection! :ok:
I wonder if you can't get your insurance company involved as your advocate? I have a case manager at my insurance co--maybe you do too? She is very good about keeping tabs on what is being done for me and regularly asks how satisfied I am with my nursing, pt, the os etc. Just a thought.

I'm very glad to hear there's no infection, @newlybionic .

Best wishes for deciding on a date for the revision.

@jarabas My old insurance company was never any help to me at all. Fortunately I have much better coverage now.

My daughter decided to call her neurologist today and is having an MRI of her brain first before she goes back to him for an office visit. Please everyone pray for her. I just wish I could take away her fears like I could when she was little. Until I find out what's going on with her I can't proceed with my revision. She comes first.

Hi Marian,
Glad there was no infection. Sorry to hear your daughter is still going through more tests. I wish the kisses still made the OWIES (sp?) go away. The cruise sounds like a wonderful idea. I've been trying to talk my husband in to going on one...the onboard casino may win him over:)

Sending positive thoughts and loving energy to you and to your daughter!
This is very scary and must be consuming your thoughts--and hers--right now.
It's good that she will see her doctor right after the MRI, so she doesn't have to imagine all the worst case scenarios over a weekend.

Marian that is such great news! No infection :loveshwr:. You know I will pray for your daughter, got it covered. We never, ever stop worrying about our children and it so hard to see them go through difficult times. ❤

@Thesoutherncook Helen a BREAK! Lol. With my luck with my knee anything could happen.:old:

When I was leaving for work this morning for my 10.5 hour day I was thinking my knee wasn't really that bad. As the day went on I progressively had more and more pain and stiffness even though I was off my feet for a couple of hours working on the computer. My pain level went up to a 7 by the end of the day. It's very hard to describe but it also feels like my knee is on fire from the inside. The outside is warm and even after putting ice on it it never feels cold. It's confusing.

Marian, are you going to be checked for metal allergies before your revision? I don't remember if you mentioned that in your previous posts.

@smarttoys That will be something I will definitely ask about. The one I have now is made of titanium. I certainly wouldn't want to have a third new knee! I'm starting to get all my questions together for my new OS. I know he doesn't use the same type of implant I have now but I don't know which one he does use.

Marian, I'm so happy there's no infection! That's a complication you just don't need. I'll be praying your daughter gets answers that will put her at ease. What a good mom you are!

It's that 10.5 hour work day that's the killer, Marian! :bricks:
That would make my knees hurt too, and there's nothing wrong with mine.

@Timetolive I spoke to my daughter this morning. I tried to reassure her that when they do any tests they have to include any possibilities, no matter how small, on the test results. Her friend who is a PA told her the same thing. I also told her that whatever it is she has her sisters, her husband, aunt and I to be there with her. She was planning to start to take some fertility medication at the end of the month to try to get pregnant so she is very disappointed right now. She has to wait until the paper authorization comes in the mail to schedule the MRI. It should be within the week. It's hard because as her mom it's not something I can fix. How are you feeling today? You've had such a tough time of it and still have been so caring of others. You are indeed a very special person.

Marian, I will continue to pray that your daughter's doctors are skilled in their diagnosis and that whatever is found, she will have the strength to handle it. It is hard to be the mom - always. As for me, I am still having diarrhea every morning until 10:30 or so, then I am fine until night - sometimes. It has really been draining and my energy is zip. My gastro appt is the 26 th - it can't get here too soon. I guess this is scarring and inflammation from the diverticulitis. Ralph is coming along. I have started walking (short walks) and riding my recumbent 10 minutes a day, building up a minute a day to 20 minutes. I am at 116/7. OS is very pleased, but doesn't want me to have any procedures for 3 months from surgery. I am sure Gastro will want to do a colonoscopy. As a side, my brother that was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer and given 3 months, passed his 2 year mark and was turned down for a drug trial because he had no measurable disease!! You see, God's grace flows and His mercy is awesome. You remember that when you face that revision! You are in my prayers.

@Timetolive I have a form of IBS where I wind up with the :chuckmarch: having me run back in forth to the bathroom several times in a row usually after dinner or whenever I eat a full meal. Do you think that you might also have this problem? I really don't know if diverticulosis can also be present but I guess it could. I never try to eat much when I'm going out or am at work during the day. If you can you might want to call the GI doctor's office and ask them to call you if someone cancels their appointment so maybe you can get in earlier than the 26th. That is truly wonderful about your brother. What a true miracle! I'm glad Ralph is doing so well. I only got to 110 before I started to lose ROM. I'm probably a little more than 90 now. After I know what's going on with my daughter then I can start to plan on fixing my knee.

@Josephine I have a couple of questions that I haven't been able to find answers for so I thought I'd ask your opinion. In regards to my revision surgery will waiting longer make the surgery more prone to problems in the way of bone loss? They used cement to place the prosthesis so I'm worried about the procedure to remove them and the complications involved. I'm thinking of maybe trying to do it sometimes in March but I'll try to do it sooner if it would make the surgery easier. I'm just so unsure as of now. I will schedule a visit to new OS when I have a time frame in mind. Thanks for your help.
