MUA Tigz's Lessons in Patience

You tube can be a scary thing. It was bad enough going into the OR awake before they put my spinal in. I can remember looking at all the instruments on the table- reminded me of my dad's old garden shed with saws and hammers and a bunch of stuff that made me glad I was going to get knocked out!! Boy, what our knees have gone through...we need to baby them for a while.

@Kansas Teacher least you wouldn't have been rushing back to the classroom. Daughter just finished her third year of teaching, third grade this past year.

@bluejuju I made a point of not looking around the room too much after remembering the YouTube vid I watched. I didn't want to think of the fact those instruments were going to be used on me!

I went I to my TKR surgery totally ignorant of what was going to occur. If I had known I don't thing I would have had it done. @tigz I hope the MUA loosens up your knee for you.

Thanks, @KarriB!

Tried to get family to watch a TKR surgery vid so they could better empathize with me. They wouldn't.

Am about ready to retract the nice Father's Day sentiments I put here. Hubby told me he might have a meeting at the Volunteer Fire House the evening of my manipulation. I told him he might not. LOL

That reminded me of when I had some wisdom teeth removed---I saw everything and did not like it!

When they gave me the spinal, I was in the pre-op room, and as the anesthesiologist was working with the spinal, he said, "You are going to feel a little drowsy..."

I remember nothing after that---the next thing I know I am being wheeled to recovery.

Oh same here! They sat me up, turned on the sleepy juice next thing I knew I was waking up!

I had an idea---but that was a good thing at the time.

Now for recovery, my ignorance was frightening---until I found this site.

The OS' office gave me a booklet to read regarding recovery and even though he said it was a lengthy recovery none of that really sunk in. You really have to experience this to understand it.

I must say the pain management from start to finish for the TKR was amazing. The last gyn procedure I had my hands, wrists and forearms were sore from gripping for a couple of days afterwards. The nerve block definitely did its job!

Yep---unless you have gone through it, it does not make much sense.

They can tell you what boot camp is like, or what reffing D-1 basketball is like, but until you go through it, you have no clue...

A TKR recovery is very much the same way.

And that is the way it should be.

Many folks, prior to the TKR surgery, are afraid of the post-op pain.

This is not to stay that there will be some pain or discomfort, but if you have the right OS and the right nurses (mine were awesome!) there is a definite absence of pain!

Yet still no two recoveries are really alike! And it's a very lonnnng process (says she who is only eight weeks out and looking at a manipulation next week! )

I was more afraid of the side effects of the pain meds...Percocet and I have never gotten along, although it is much more effective for pain management than Lortab. And the constipation bit....Oy! ;-)

Hey maybe he is with my CFO!!! LOLOL!!! I am spending my PTO recovering not in Europe!!! Oh well pain free is more important for me right now!!! :rotfl:

Last night my right knee that's never bothered me started aching. I think it's because I tend to not use the cane around the house and am not walking properly without it. So cane for me!

In other news I think I've passed the depression phase into an angry phase. I've been playing my favorite I'm ticked album the last 24 hours when no one's in the house.... Darkness on the Edge of Town. Oh well. This too will eventually pass!

My 25 year old had routine blood work drawn this morning. She's at a professional development day, away f from her summer job and texted me to say her arm hurts.

Can I smack her? ;-)

(I hate autocorrect! )

Ahhhh, that's Bruce's best!!! Badlands and Prove It All Night are my fav!

Personally, I prefer angry over depressed. I find anger to fire me up and make me DO something, instead of curl up and pout.
