MUA Tigz's Lessons in Patience

I agree at four months, I really began my training for skiing---so now is the time to walk and challenge yourself a little. Not too fast, of course, everything is gradual. I love to walk and walk the dogs 4 miles per day. I have walked them since the first month out from the surgery---although in the beginning I only walked on level surfaces---which were hard to find in Montana!!!

I worked on my own extension for almost six months until it was finally -1!!!

Thanks to @Kansas Teacher 's sorta challenge, I actually just walked one whole mile. Left the house and just kept going (probably shoulda had my cell phone with me). Maybe I should dust off the Fitbit? This is in honor of my four month kneeversary tomorrow.

Great! Yesterday I managed over 3 miles without trying from morning to night, in the course of my work day. Today I'm only at 2.1 miles, difference being where I was working and what I was doing. In the 'olden days' I'd do my darnedest to get to 5 miles (10,000 steps). Down the road, yes, but right now... I'm beat!

@tigz

Long time. I hope your doing good. I've been on some. I am fed up with doctors.

Walking before bed time is great. Helps you rest.

Back to a normal work schedule, some days are better than others, depending I think, how much I'm on my feet at work. It can really vary! Still trying to ice and raise the leg to hip level in the course of the day, and icing when I get home. The night time pain seems much more manageable. More an annoyance than pain. ☺

Today is my first day of a nekkid knee during the day since outpatient PT gave me a sleeve to wear on May 19. Figured I had to do it some time. For some reason this was a rougher week for me than last week...although it's my second full week back to work. A little more achy and swollen each day, and definitely more tired! I've lost track of weeks (can't count that high any more) but it's something like 4.5 months from my surgery.

Averaging about 5000 steps daily without trying.

Speaking of which..time for a walk! Still don't take my friend in my avatar...scared he's going to make me fall over!

Happy Saturday everybody!

Are there news reports in Maryland of a woman with a nekkid knee??!! Enjoy your walk and weekend and hope next week brings less swelling and aches.

Today I realized one of the limitations of my new knee... I was pretty wet by the time I got to my car on leaving work. Got in the car and sent myself a text to buy two umbrellas... one for the car (somehow in the last four months mine left the car) and one to leave at work!

As the calendar turns, I'm 4 1/2 months out from surgery. This past week I haven't been icing at work, just waiting until I get home. Still have a bit of swelling and stiffness by the end of the day but it's not too uncomfortable, and I am able to work on creative bending (using a rolling chair, leaning forward or using a stool for a stretch). I've found even sitting and leaning the knee to the outside and inside (hard to describe) gives a good stretch.

Just walked in from the rain myself! I could have sworn I had an umbrella. Like you, I don't do anything special at work anymore to take care of my knee. I got stuck in a two-hour meeting yesterday though, and when I finally got up I really felt my little knee man growl! He is a man of action!

One good thing about working in a lab.... No matter what you're doing you never sit for long! I think I've only sat that long once....And that was with my sister's family not realizing I'd sat that long!

First walk this year for me with the 100 lb five year old golden retriever. Wasn't too bad except for going downhill (there's no place level to walk around here) when he tugged a bit. Knee didn't like that but we made it!

Still working slowly on the extension.

Good for you! We are having gorgeous weather for walking on the east coast!

My six month follow up is Oct 13 and I have several questions for my OS... The list keeps growing.

I'm hoping he'll also give me six more months of temporary handicapped parking. Going into work isn't too bad, but I'm stiff and a bit swollen at the end of the day and the normal parking lot is a lot further away than where the disabled employee parking is. I'm icing when I get home, and then before bed... Not at all at work anymore. Been quite the challenge as I've finally been all day in our busiest satellite lab in the ED this past week... On your feet for most of the day, moving around in a small space.

Gaining small increments of energy back...but exhausted by the end of the day.

The annoying ache at the back of my leg has lessened, but it still lets itself known during the night.

You're making progress, @tigz! My OS gave me a regular handicap placard, doesn't expire until 2019! I'm exhausted after 3 1/2 weeks back to work and I have no excuse at all!

I do wish we could get temporary handicapped placards here in NZ!
Here, you can't get one unless you are permanently disabled.

Apart from the greater distances you could need to walk, getting in and out of a car when there isn't enough room to open the door fully can be quite a feat after a TKR.

I know! Soon after I went back to full days I was in our other satellite lab... in an Oncology building. The parking there isn't too far away, so I figured I could park in a regular space. One afternoon I came out to a dilemma... just how I was going to get into my car. As I was walking slowly up to the car someone moving faster than me unlocked that car and drove off. Whew! I don't know how long I might've been standing there otherwise!
