MUA Tigz's Lessons in Patience

I've actually had to ask strangers to get into my car and back it up for me when an inconsiderate SUV or Range Rover driver parked in a compact space inches away from my door. That works for getting back into your car. But I haven't found a solution for getting *out* of your car. I hope your doctor extends your handicapped parking permit, @tigz. Your job doesn't give you much chance to rest, ice, and elevate if you need to, so you're definitely worn out at the end of the day.

Wellington's your capitol, isn't it, @Celle? I have a mind to ask your politicians if they'd like to be temporarily disabled for six months and be unable to take advantage of handicapped parking privileges. Someone once said people aren't temporarily disabled; they are just temporarily able-bodied. Be nice if others kept that in mind.

And you're keeping track of how many munchkins @KarriB? That would exhaust me after an hour!

@Celle that's terrible there's no temporary situation while you heal from surgery. It's much needed (even if the spaces are in high demand!).

@SarahJane I hadn't thought of asking for someone to move my car for me. Good idea! Hopefully the doctor won't have an issue with it... there's also the icy mess that's left around after a winter storm to contend with! I'd love to move to an always warm climate, but hubby wants no parts of that.

I like these last few minutes of quiet in the morning before work, icing and no one's up but me (the dog's even gone back to bed after being fed and let out - took my place).

The number is 22 this year and trying to be heard above the din of their talking. I'm off in a few minutes, but retirement is looming in the distance for me, probably one more year at least. Have a great day!

Hiya checking in on you. How is things going? Oh for me confusing every day. Have a great night.

@Angel1978 work is tiring... but I'm muddling through. It's mostly the bare minimum that is still getting done around the house (especially on work days), but I can deal with that.

I'm in a weekend work pattern (of my own choice) right now. It's a bit quieter working weekends. Off today so I'm doing lots of laundry and playing catch up around the house!

Laundry never ends -- my task today too. I'm glad to hear that you are managing well at work. How's the sleeping going -- I know you struggled with that for awhile.

The sleep's much better. Most nights I haven't been taking anything, occasionally I take Tylenol PM. Prior to my TKR I'd read, sometimes up to an hour, in bed before I went to sleep. I'm lucky if I make it a whole half hour! I'm not sleeping through the night, but it's relatively easy to get back to sleep after repositioning. It's like mild discomfort that wakes me up, I guess from being in the same position for a bit?

A comparison of knees (yeah there's still swelling)

Wow @tigz. So much different than here. The incision. I still have swelling to. And the ache nagging pain. Best luck at work. Me not work for while kills me.

I had surgery on that knee when I was a teen @Angel1978 for instability issues. The OS followed the old scar to minimize the formation of scar tissue. Folks who are familiar with how most TKR scars look, do a double take when I show them my knee.

I did do a double take! But better one scar than two, otherwise you'll start to look like a road map.

Yawn. Another work weekend almost done. When I volunteered a while back to do a few weekends in a row I seemed to forget I was giving up my weekend. (I know makes no sense.)

I actually only iced later in the evening the last two days! YAY! As the calender turns, today would be my five month anniversary of the new knee. It's still not totally a knee, but it's getting there. For a while I was saying unkind things to it, in a nice sweet voice as you would a dog (ok you can call me crazy) but I've actually stopped doing that. Now I just say "nice lil knee".

One month per the calendar from today we'll finally be burying my father at Arlington National Cemetery complete with military (WWII) honors. What a year it's been. He passed away March 9. He revised his will last year, removing my oldest (deceased) sister's family from it and her daughters are contesting the will. Makes for an interesting family feud. *sigh*

Have a blessed Sunday! I'll download my church's message after I get home from work and listen later. :) Have been to church maybe three times since my surgery but I'm a faithful listener to the podcast of the weekly message. :)

How many more weekends do you have to work? I'm glad to hear you don't need to ice as much, it does mean your getting better and back to a normal life. I'm sorry to hear of family troubles, it does make things difficult.

Normally it's one in four weekends a month, but I've gone over and above this past month. I don't mind if I have no plans. It's quieter working on the weekend... and more days off during the week!

That's a totally different lifestyle for me. It takes a month in the summer to not feel weird being out and about on a week day. How great to have that option! Are you able to rest, relax and get things done during the week?

I hate running around on Saturday mornings with the rest of the world. And Christmas shopping - oy!

Definitely do all three.. rest, relax, and get things done, because I've never been one to sleep in (even post surgery... 7:30 a.m. was pretty late for me to be up and moving!).

Today I went to see the house I grew up in, totally renovated. It looks amazing. We sold it in June to the fellow that fixed it up, and already the house has been sold again! The normal one hour ride took us 1 1/2 hours to get there in the rain and 2 1/2 hours to get home because of rain and taking a more circuitous route home to avoid the Capitol Beltway and the Baltimore Beltway because the GPS said they were a mess. While the knee was a bit stiff getting out of the car after each ride, it loosened up pretty quickly. I have a good sense of closure with my Dad's passing (even if he won't be buried at Arlington for another 26 days!) after seeing the house. I said a prayer for the family that bought it. :)

I think I can see a very very faint light somewhere at the end of this tunnel? *fingers crossed*

I'm glad your journeys weren't too uncomfortable for your knee.
I'm sorry about the death of your father, but I agree that it's good to be able to tie up some of the loose ends and get a feeling of closure.

Thanks @Celle. There's closure and an unexpected feeling of peace. I had no sadness in the house, maybe because of the changes in it (they even moved the basement stairs!), a time to move on?
