MUA Tigz's Lessons in Patience

So you just need to get through next week, then a rest before full time. Relax, ice and elevate as much as you can after work and over the weekend.

Best nap ever. First one of the week came at the end of the week. Hubby's out and about...And I just texted him about the Chinese carry-out order he's to pick up. ;-)

Saturday morning PT with a PT from another location... Gentle-ist (don't want think that's a word lol) PT ever! Wish she was here all the time.

Taking it easy the rest of the weekend. :-)

Boy @tigz. What a busy week you had, then to have PT on the weekend?? Whew.. I am tired from just reading your thread!! Just think how you're building up your endurance..next, you'll be cooking that Chinese food!!

But but I'll loose all that endurance when we go to the beach (where I will probably stare at the sand more than I'll touch it!)

I shall rest the rest of the weekend (after going to the grocery store in a bit :) ).

Josephine posted this from the library to MidwestTKR's thread, and I decided I wanted it here for reference. LOL

I know! I took a screen shot of it so I'd have it close. Yay for going to the beach! Which one?

We're going to Ocean City, MD, up near the Delaware line.

That chart reminds me I'm still healing, not only from the LTKR, but also from the MUA.

I thought I was going to the grocery store...hubby went to Sam's Club also. Ugh. I promise I'm doing NOTHING tomorrow!

We were just at Bethany, down the road from Fenwick. You better be resting!

You are a little ahead of me. My left TKR was May 29th. Yesterday I decided enough was enough. I was discouraged and negative also but today is a new day. Gave up the cane week 5. Today is grocery shopping and taking the dog for a much-needed long walk. Naps and ice are my new best friend. You are doing great. Keep up the good work

Posted to MidwestTKR's thread and thought I'd post my update here.

I really don't think using a cane has me walking any faster than I am without it. I am just pain old slow!

My swelling and stiffness seemed a little less today than last week and the PT agreed with me. She says I really should try to do more stretching in the course of the work day, even if it's just a few minutes. She thinks that might help. I can't elevate but I ice on break and at lunch, hoping there's a free chair to rest my leg on so at least it's not in a dependant position. I've been icing / elevating when I get home.

I still have a general tightness in my knee. My natural bend isn't a much as what I can push it to while seated in a chair and I push it back under me. I figure I still have soft tissue that's still recuperating from the MUA (it'll be a month Wednesday).

Quite the challenging recovery, isn't it?

ETA: the OS is vacationing and the PA he works closely with didn't want to give me anything stronger than an Rx of Naproxen. My GP's office will give me a muscle relaxant (still have some) and will let me try a sleeping pill if need be. I really want to try some Tramadol or Dilaudid. I could deal with this before I went back to work ( naps!) but I can't do that now and this broken sleep is not a good thing!

@tigz Quite the challenging recovery, isn't it? I wholeheartedly agree!!! Don't the muscle relaxers help with your sleep? For a while I was taking Zanax at night and that helped a lot. Now I just take the Naproxen and an occactional Tylenol PM. I was back to work this AM and PT after work. I was complaining about how stiff my knee still is, but she said my ROM was so much better. I told her about my neighbor who has had both knees done that 3 months was the major turning point. She said she didn't think so, most of her patients are more like 6 :thud:. More patience.

I've been taking a small ball too work and rolling my foot on it back and forth under my desk, it helps a little. Its the stiffness that is the worst for me.

Have a good week and enjoy your vacation:flwrysmile:

I just filled my Remeron 30 mg and got 8 hours of sleep last night. It felt so good to sleep. My first good night in 6 weeks. Maybe ask your GP about it.

Boy, to think we made it this far is amazing.. Isn't it @tigz? I think they give us those strong narcotics in the beginning so we forget just how much pain we had. I was just talking to a friend of mine saying that I think I'll do my other knee in the spring since it wasn't that bad, and she said "what? Do you realize you were a walking zombie for the first few weeks moaning in pain whenever you walked??" I did? I thought i wasn't that bad...hmm

Nothing but the half a Percocet that still gives me a headache the next day really helps. I still get pain behind the knee (hamstring?) when I reposition taking just about anything. I tend to sleep on my left side with the leg bent, although I try to start out with it straight. I try massaging the area before I go to sleep, and have tried both ice and heat on different nights to see if one helps the behind the knee pain more than the other. None seem to help.

A friend recommended Tylenol PM. Today I had to go retrieve my son's car from a body shop after work with hubby and didn't get a chance to stop by the store to get some.

Remeron 30 mg and got 8 hours of sleep last night.

What is Remeron? Any side effects or after effects? Fuzziness?

LOL. It's been quite the long haul thus far. And to think... it ain't over yet!

So far no side effects. It kick myself for not taking it sooner. I wake up feeling great and no other problems. My GP had tried to give it to me once before( after mom passed) . I would ask your OS about it. You might need a lower dose but the 30 mg is good for me. :dancy:

This week has seemed somewhat easier. Not quite as swollen and stiff at the end of the day. Either my body is adjusting or I'm actually getting a little better. ;-) It helped the four day week hasa day off in the middle! Last week was not fun. I cried a couple days on my way home.

My ROM is where *I* (ok, I had high expectations for myself! ) think it should've been a month out....Instead of 12 weeks out (four weeks after MUA). It's still not a natural bend, I have to loosen it up to get it there. I'll be relieved when I don't have to concentrate on bending.

There's still a lag when I do a straight leg raise (extension)...my extension seems to be stuck at 5, no matter how long I hang off the edge of the bed with weights, or any of the other exercises they've suggested. There's a slight hitch to my gait because of it.

Oh well. Only three months until that magical six months that several of my friends said it took them to feel somewhat normal.

Still trying to figure out where on the rollercoaster in an exactly?

I'm glad this week went a bit better, it's a relief for sure. I'm not sure if I mentioned on your thread, but I would sit in a chair with the ottoman pushed away and put my leg up on the ottoman. No weights on my leg, Judy let it sit there like a bridge. I think it helped with my extension because I never had to do anything to get good extension. My RTKR extension is much better than my left. You could use a coffee table or dining room chair, just let it sit there while reading etc. and ice at the same time. Kill two birds with one stone. @tigz did you say you read Girl on the Train? I'm right in the middle of it now and having a hard time putting it down.
