Revision TKR Tibia fracture after TKR

@benne68

Hi! Thank you for your encouraging response!

Yes, I’m hard on myself, but very understanding of others’ pain, physical and emotional. I need to be kinder to myself, and I appreciate your kindness so much.

Thank you!

Best regards … (It is so hard for me to not sign my name. I feel like I’m corresponding with friends!

I am well, BoningUp, thank you for asking! It’s so nice to hear from you.

I understand your anxiety, having experienced a revision, but you’re also under the care of a surgeon at the top rated orthopedic hospital in the country. I feel you’re expecting a lot of yourself at this early date because it sounds like you’re doing really well! Give yourself grace. :wink:

I am so sorry you and hubs had to endure Covid as you’re healing from major surgery. That is a lot. You’re a champ!

I wish you the best with your outpatient PT beginning next week and hope you enjoy the rest of this week! Thanks for taking the time to update!
@BoningUp

@Layla Thank you! You always make me feel so optimistic! I honestly think that this is the kindest, most positive forum, with the most lovely people. Thank you for all your kind words, advice, and bolstering. I hope you know how wonderful and important it is to me, and I’m sure, to others who are at vulnerable and frightening moments in their lives.

I need to reframe my narrative. Knee surgery, while the last ditch effort to resume a normal life, is challenging, to say the least. All of us who go through it are fierce, strong, and brave. I might embroider that onto a sampler and hang it in my bedroom.

And, yes, you are 100% right about HSS. Everyone made my experiences the best they could be. I am grateful to have gone there. I am grateful to my surgeon, who is a caring person, as are all the people I encountered there.

Ok! You’ve got me started on a positive note. Now, my last at home PT session. Hurray!!!

Have a fabulous day!

I need to be kinder to myself
We all need to do this at times. So many of us put ourselves down if we don't reach the level we, our doctor, or PT think we all to be. We should celebrate our successes, even the tiny baby steps. These tiny baby steps lead to a bigger step!

Thank you for your kind words. It is appreciated. :friends:
I share your thoughts in regard to the forum. I can’t imagine my recovery without it. There is something special about recovering with others, many in real time, or those that understand because they’ve been there themselves. We appreciate you sharing details of your recovery here because it will serve and inspire many following behind you. We’re each unique in our healing process and it’s wonderful we have a place to share and experience the camaraderie.
A blessed day to you, dear BoningUp! :)

I need to reframe my narrative.
This is so hard to do, but something that helped me gain perspective on my recovery, was documenting my "achievements."

Once a week or so, I would list of all the things -- even the little ones -- that I was able to do, along with a list of the things I was looking forward to being able to do in the future. As items moved from one list to the other, I saw real progress and it helped me stay positive and recognize that (even with the normal ups and downs), things were indeed improving.

@sistersinhim (I love your kitty! I have three, all strays that I trapped, had neutered and socialized. They are grateful and paid close attention to me in the earliest weeks of my recovery.)

Thank you for your encouraging words. I am very good at being hard on myself.

I will say that my PTs and, for the revision and most recent surgery on my right knee, the surgeon have been amazing. Not so, the first time around when the implant slipped and broke my tibia. That surgeon was short with me when I showed up with a walker at four weeks. He also kept telling me to increase the pain meds when I’d call to tell him about pain. It wasn’t until five months post surgery when he saw me hobbling in pain that he did X-rays again and told me I needed a revision. And then he never called to follow up after he booked the surgery for three months later. It seemed to me like he could have made room for me sooner than that, but what do I know? Hindsight is 20/20 though. But yes, I will practice patience with myself. It’s an important gift I can give myself.

Ugh, I’m rambling. So sorry.

Have a great day!!!

@benne68,

What a great idea!! I will take your advice and keep a progress journal.

Thank you so much!! I admit to becoming overwhelmed at times by the entire recovery process. There is so much that goes into it, besides the obvious physical aspects.

Great idea! Thanks again!!!

Best regards …

I think most of us have felt that way at some point (in my own case, at several points!) in our recoveries. It's a physical and emotional roller coaster. Give yourself some grace. You've been through a lot!

@BoningUp, I'm a rescuer for kitties. At the time of my TKR, I had 13 of them to take care of. Taking about natural PT! Caring for them make me get up and walk! I'm down to 6 now. My latest one is a female Siamese about a year old. She was found on the streets and pregnant. Her foster mom said she had 2 little ones. I was so tempted to take them, too, but talked myself out of it. Kittens are easy to be adopted.

I firmly believe that pets help us in our recovery. Dogs need walking, feed and watered and cats need their litter boxes cleaned and also fed and watered. This natural PT gets us up and moving. That's the physical aspect of it. Emotionally, they are a huge mood lifter and provide us with much-needed love!

For anyone interested, we have a thread in the Social Room all about our pets: Pets and our recovery

Happy Two Month Anniversary!
I hope you've been doing well since we last heard from you a few weeks ago.
We finally cooled off in my neck of the woods...coming off high heat and humidity, not my fave.
Hope you're enjoying some nice weather, making steady progress and having a good August so far.
Take care!
@BoningUp

Happy (slightly belated!) three-month an-knee-versary, @BoningUp! :wave:

Hope you are doing well. Please give us an update the next time your drop by.
