THR THR Posterior - Slowly Healing

@myglasshalffull @msart
When MDH was diagnosed with mild toe arthritis years ago we bought a blanket lifter for the foot of the bed. Since I have developed bunions (plus knee surgeries!) it's been much appreciated by both of us.
(The kitties also love it; two of the three trade off using it as a daytime sleeping cave while we humans are up and about!)

I get the panic attack-I have had several sadly.
I really feel for you. I've had a couple of panic attacks since the op - I think that feeling of vulnerability and dependence on others comes into it. I've woken up in a cold sweat at 4am thinking well that's it, no use to anyone now, I'm never going to be properly active again. And that my (extremely patient) OH is looking after some incapacitated old lady instead of his equal lively partner! I KNOW that's stupid but it's amazing how things can look at 4 in the morning! Esp if your hip's aching AGAIN and you're supposed to have recovered weeks ago...
Then I get out and about and I feel quite normal again. I think mood swings are part of this whole thing.

The location is classic for Morton's neuroma - a misnamed issue; it's just fibrous tissue growing around nerves and there are several conservative treatments - but it could also be anything from bursitis to a ligament problem or a stress fracture. Yes, gait imbalances like being post op certainly can and do affect our feet!

So, yes, seeing your doctor is a good idea. An x-ray will show any bone problems; from there an ultrasound or MRI might make sense.
@mendogal-you called it!! Went to my primary today & that is exactly what he thinks it is. I have appointment Thursday w/ RA dr & my primary wants me to see what he thinks.

Today I had a really good report from my primary. He looked at my hip-did some moving me around and such. (No surgeon here onboard yet) he says I am making a great recovery. He has had 2 hip replacements himself, so I feel very comfortable with his thoughts. I told him about my current aches & pains being-shoulder, knee & foot. Ironically all on my right side which is my surgery side. He feels as most of these will subside as I get more active. He thinks the trauma, from fall, 2 surgeries, out of town, having RA has all affected my body. Good news though-I am going to recover. lol I guess just not at the speed I would like. As far as my body getting back-he feels like things are going to continue to improve as I keep going to gym. I’m sure it will take forever, but I’ll just have to continue to be patient & do what I can & listen to my body.

@mendogal -what a blanket lifter?? There is such a thing??? I sure could have used that the first 6 weeks or so. The blanket, sheets, were a huge problem. Oh the things you learn!! I just hope I never need one but if I do good to know it’s available. I am certain the kitties do love it!! lol

@flamingoprint -we are going to make it!! We can always let this group know if they need to call for help in middle of the night-lol. I had to make a funny! But panic attacks are awful & the stress of this is a lot. Good news though-so many others have gotten through this & it just takes time. Thankfully, there are many others ahead of us to pave the way & assure us we are doing fine. Be good to yourself-:)

BLANKET LIFTER
This is only one of many Amazon...and I am sure other retailers sell.
I think one of my BS colleagues husband made her one out of PVC. You can probably find other creative ways to get the same effect.

You have a warm, supportive caring nature about you, msart. Thanks for joining us here to share your journey and in support of others!

Awe @Layla thank you so much. Funny how you can read that through my postings, but you are mostly correct. This group is dear to my heart, even told my Dr. today about BS. Thinking he can tell his other patients about it, bc truly very helpful, during a time when I think we all feel so vulnerable-bc we don’t know.

Btw-love the blanket lifter.

Thanks so much for sharing BoneSmart with your physician! We truly appreciate that.
I hope you have a lovely week. :friends:
@msart

Believe I have just entered week 17, can not even believe it. Feeling very good overall. Went to gym today, worked with my trainer & not hurting me one bit. I have not gotten the tiredness of my lower body in past few days, so a big improvement. Have actually done a lot more than usual yesterday & today-so hoping my stamina & strength is returning. Am a little sore, but nothing like it used to be. Still having some shoulder, knee & foot pain-but it is manageable. Very happy to make this post & encourage others with THR-posterior or any hip surgery really. No need to rush this recovery, our hips will lead the way, truly!!!:yes!:

I found a slow return to "normal" shortly after month 6. Was I perfect, no I wasn't, but I remember in August of my first year going to a fun 50's party at my best friend's house where she had hired an Elvis impersonator & dancing up a storm with no ill effects.
There were still days I needed to take a break & ice but overall I was really on a good path. My first year anniversary I was once again on St John (where I left one year prior with a fractured hip)...surgery on St Thomas. Everyone I've come to know & love there thought I'd never come back but I did & I was able to do quite a bit of uphill walking every AM. It was a very successful vacation & like I said I felt so good that March I decided to try & go back to work which didn't prove to be best thing for me. However it was a setback but a small one & I was back in action before I knew it. Now Year 2 of recovery will soon end & onto Year 3. Year 2 has given me my entire life back. Year one I could do just about everything but this year I don't really think about my hip unless I'm here talking to my fellow hippies.
So you will see continued improvement, hang in there, it gets better & better!

@myglasshalffull -i am so glad we can provide encouragement to others. It’s a tough recovery but I do believe it will continue to get better & better!!! That is so wonderful you had a successful vacation. I am thinking about planning mine in April or may. I’m a bit scared bc I fell on my last vacation but I’m not going to let that stop me. As long as I’m physically able-I’m doing it!!! :dancy:

@daisyduck0801-how’s the weather down in south Louisiana? We are expecting to get the winter storm here starting in the am. Rain, ice, wintery mix. Lovely. I am staying put until there is no ice. Last thing I want is to have a slip & fall right now. A lady almost hit me today while driving -would have been drivers side, I had to pull over bc I was so scared. All that crossed through my mind was MY HIP!! No, not my hip. I suppose my trauma is still very fresh. So I’m staying put until the ice is melted!!

Actually, it's been cold...but beautiful. Sunny skies. We had just a little bit of rain some days ago that ushered in the current cold front. On the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain we have not dipped below 34 or 33 degrees at night. Whew! At least not having wrap exposed pipes. We are supposed to have rain coming in Friday, with another front behind it. But again, low temps not expected below 34 or so (South shore).

I would have been a nervous wreck in your position of that almost-accident. That is NOTHING to mess around with. Please msart - stay off the streets! I know you said you will...but I'll say it again for you. :tada: You have come too far to risk another accident!

@daisyduck0801 i am going to!! That I can promise you. You know how people are in the south-they go crazy when a winter storm coming. So I am definitely staying off the streets.

Oh good. It’s been in the 20’s at night all week. So just cold!! Tomorrow the rain & wintery mix starts, then the aftermath of that. Tree limbs breaking, power off, etc. Louisiana folks are not equipped to handle these storms. Schools & I49 already shut down. Going to be a fun few days!!

I lived in Opelousas LA for ten years and brrrrrrr I couldn’t believe how cold and icy it got, especially because I lived in a drafty old house. Please be safe!

Thank you @ClownMagnet!! So far so good here. It’s freezing cold. But Lily & I are just fine. Will see how tomorrow goes, just praying power stays on. Southerners are simply not made for this kind of cold.
