Revision TKR Third and final surgery all done

I too suggest you ask your OS about this concern. Surgeries can have an impact on your immune system. I broke out in hives about four months after mine and got worried about metal allergies and other evil things, but the dermatologist I saw told me he thought it was an auto-immune reaction courtesy of... a stressed immune system post-surgery. He gave me some meds and said it would pass. It did. Haven’t had a hive in months and successfully fought off the nasty bronchial thing going around. But his diagnosis surprised me because I hadn’t heard about the stressed immune system possibility.

@SusieShoes My dermatologist told me the same thing about the rash on my knees she diagnosed as psoriasis, which is an auto-immune disorder that I never had before surgery. She said the stress of the surgery was the cause. Another example of an impacted immune system.

So kayow11 I agree, definitely discuss this issue with your OS. And I so hope you feel better from your sick very soon!

Hello all,
My left knee revision surgery is Monday morning March 26. My new surgeon felt that my recent sicknesses aren't necessarily from being rundown and could just be coincidental.
He did admit that revisions typically are more risky as far as infection goes, a bigger percentage, but still not big.
I don't really have much choice here and it has been 6 1/2 months and my symptoms are the same with my left foot and low back. I would love to just get back to the way I felt before any of my surgeries. I am not near that currently.
A CPM machine was delivered to my house today so I hope that it increases my flexibility and range of motion right away. My first and second knee are both only still in the mid 90s. First knee which is nine months old is still swollen. My surgeon said we can deal with that knee later on.
I do covet anyone's prayers that would like to pray for complete success with my surgery, and also to pray for absolutely no complications.
I will update you guys hopefully next week when I feel up to it. Thank you.

Best wishes for Monday. I hope everything goes well.

I will be praying. Also sending hugs and best wishes!

You have my prayers and I will send healing thoughts your way.

You have my prayers along with the other ones!

sending prayers for a successful surgery and no complications.

Thank you all for your prayers and care for me. It made me feel blessed and happy to see all the posts responding to my request. It really is a cool and comforting thought knowing that others in the US and world, know about little ole me here in MN.
The scripture verse sent by Babushalen was especially meaningful, and I needed that for a reminder since I have been battling fear.
This forum is, and has been so wonderful with information and encouragement, and I'm so thankful someone told me to search it out.
I hope to post next week when I return home from the hospital. Until then

I'm finally home. I had surgery on Monday and it went well. My leg is straight!
I haven't done a lot of walking yet but I have not had any foot pain since my leg was lined up right. That was probably my biggest problem. I also had much less fear and anxiety the night before and even the morning of surgery. I did the spinal and I'm so glad I did. I do also recommend it since it seems to be easier on the body.
Another thing that this surgeon used was a Hemovac which suctions excess blood and fluid from the joint area after surgery. I had a lot coming out of there and it had to be dumped a few times. It was left in for at least one day.
My first surgeon never used that either time. I think that was part of my problem, having way too much excess blood in my knee joint and thigh which caused a lot of extra swelling tenderness and massive bruising.
So far the incision looks healthy. Of course I'm real sore but I just seem to feel better overall.
This has been going on so long, and in so many different phases, that I have kind of forgotten what I am supposed to do right after surgery. So I have to relearn this again.
Thanks for your prayers. I will post as time goes on and I recover more.
I would like to change my thread title to, third and final surgery all done, but I don't know how to do that. I was able to figure it out one time but I think the Oxycodone has fogged up my brain.
Could someone do it for me please? Or else give me instructions.

I’m so glad you’re home and that all has not only gone well, but better than the other surgeries!

Best Best wishes that you will have a smooth and uneventful recovery!
:console2:

Welcome to recovery again. It seems as if everything is going well.

Here is the recovery reading again - as a refresher for you:
Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now; they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
don't overwork.
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. Here is a week-by-week guide for Activity progression for TKRs

Please don't be overwhelmed by the list. The articles are not long and they and contain information that will answer many questions and help you make your recovery much easier on your knee and on you.

We are here to help in any way we can: answering questions and concerns; supporting and encouraging you from start to finish.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

@kayow11 I just finished reading your thread. You have been through so much. My prayer for you is an uncomplicated recovery and a knee that exceeds your expectations. May God Bless you with His comfort, His healing hands and His love.

Thanks to those that have responded so quickly! And thanks for the reminders Celle of the do's and don'ts.
Of course this next month will really determine the likely path of my rehab, but I am prayerfully optimistic. This just has to be the end of it, I truly am quite fatigued with it all.
After 2-3 months of healthy recovery, I plan to write a letter to my former surgeon, in hopes that he might listen to my thoughts and suggestions, and possibly consider changing a thing or two, to better serve his future clientele. I am probably dreaming, but you never know. I believe my suffering could have been reduced or eliminated with just a couple changes.
I plan to start using a CPM tomorrow to assist with my ROM.
To whoever changed my title, thanks!
Will keep in touch as I progress.
Thanks for any continued prayer support.

I changed your title. I'm sorry I forgot to mention it.

So happy to read your surgery is a success and you have a straight left leg! By now you're a seasoned pro at recovery from TKR, though that doesn't mean it will be easier, just less scary. Praying for you to have great results and for you to move forward into a new life with your new knees. :)

I'm so happy you have this surgery behind you, and most importantly, you have a straight leg!!:happydance:

Yay, you're home and your leg is straight! I hope you have an easy recovery!
