Bilateral THR Thing 1 and Thing2'

I am alive! Been dealing with aftermath of PT gone wrong. X-rays show hips are ok. Muscles are a mess. back on crutches, no driving, can not easily go up stairs. Spent the week in bed, eating protein bars and pain pills. Just starting to feel human.

@Berber7227 !!!:loveshwr::loveshwr::loveshwr:

So sorry to hear about the aftermath of your last pt. I’m so glad the hips are good, but muscles can be very painful. Hopefully this will be a short setback. Funny, all the stuff you were doing around the house didn’t bother you, but pt was the devil. Hope you continue to feel more human.

Oh no you poor thing! I feel so bad for you :sorry: I hope you’re improving very soon!

Oh Berber.... I'm so sorry you're suffering, how sad.
We've been missing you.
Thankfully you're beginning to feel better.
Keep resting and hopefully you'll be back to where you were soon.
Hugs
@Berber7227

@Berber7227 good to hear from you. I hope this is just a little bump in your recovery and you'll soon be back at it. We do want to hear what your brother thinks of those chocolate cherries you prepared for him!

Good Morning, @Berber7227
I hope the continued rest is helping and won't hinder you
spending time with loved ones today / tomorrow.
You've given so much love through your efforts in gift giving.
I'm sure your loved ones will appreciate your gifts to them.
Watch out for brother though if he downs too many cherries,
don't want him stumbling into you and knocking you over!
Hugs and best wishes for a very Merry Christmas!

Woke up last night after a week of no sleep, muscle spasms, pain at 10-15, and the spasms had stopped. It first I thought it was a dream. But one look in the mirror said otherwise. Do not think I had showered since Monday. I only remember bits and pieces of the week, can not imagine what I said to Dr and PT!! I remember at one point thinking I was passing kidney stones with no pain pills!! Crazy how your mind protects you.
I am weak, not sure what I ate during this. I see protein bar wrappers on the floor! Muscles are very sore. Pain down to 5. Can not put any weight on right leg, that has me a bit worried.
Called Mom, she is picking me up today. And taking me to PT on Tuesday, then I will be home again. We have wonderful weather on the way, 8 days, with a high of 20°! Hope my legs work enough so I can sew.

Are there any hints to help with muscle spasm pain?

Hey @Berber7227
Let's see if @Josephine has any advice to get you comfortably through the holiday and up to Tuesday.
I feel I could safely say you should avoid PT next week. Read the Big Tip in the reading materials again.
Sorry you are suffering so....

Pretty much blackmailed into PT. Dr firmly believes in it for me. I was in pretty bad shape to begin with. Have the top PT working with me. No one else touches me, no bike!

Spasms stopped for now! Just want to be prepared if it happens again.

Here y'go then!

It would be very helpful if you would answer each one individually - numbered as I have done - in as much detail as you can then I'll come back as see where you are

1. what approach did you have for your surgery? Anterior, posterior, lateral? You can look here to see the various types THR approaches or incisions

2. what are your pain levels right now? (remember the 1-10 scale: 1 = no pain and 10 = the worst you can imagine. And don't forget to factor in other forms of pain such as soreness, burning, stabbing, throbbing, aching, swelling and stiffness).

3. what pain medications have you been prescribed, how much are you taking (in mg please) and how often?

4. are you icing your painful area at all? If so, how often and for how long?

5. are you elevating your leg. If so how often and for how long?

6. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

7. are you doing any exercises at home? If so what and how often?
This is the most crucial question so please help me by using the format I have left as an example
(which means please make a list and not an essay!)

Exercises done at home
- how many sessions you do each day
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

Anything done at PT
- how many times a week
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

@Josephine I am really just interested in how to deal with muscle spasms. I spend last week in agony! I want to be prepared if it happens again!

Not sure how to avoid them-it can depend on cause. I know in some cases it can be low potassium. In other cases, of course, overworked muscles leads to spasms. Proper stretching can help. In terms of dealing with them, I have found heat and gentle massage helpful.

If you ever find out, do please let me know! I get cramps in my thighs quite often and get really irritated when my chiropractor said I should stand up and massage the spot! I told him 'trust me, when I get one of these things the very last thing I can do is breathe much less move at all'! I also figure that I now almost know what it feels like to have a fractured shaft of femur!

Hi @Berber7227 Hopefully you're having a better day....
My husband used to get those horrible calf cramps that wake you out of a dead sleep,
making you bolt out of bed.
What's worked for him is Magnesium Glycinate.
Read up on it if interested. See what you think....
