TKR The journey continues

Today is my last PT session (I hope). I'll write all about it when I get home. :) My pain on the inside of the knee seems much better today. I was able to go to a political forum last night and sit for a few hours. I kept putting my leg up on the chair in front of me. Afterwards we had supper and then I hurried home to rest and ice before I went to bed. :)

It doesn't matter how much better we feel, we still have to look for places to lift our legs, When we get home home the first thing I do is grab my trusty friend out of the freezer. I can't see this changing ant time soon!

I'm so glad you're feeling better. I was worried about you yesterday. But, you have snapped back! Wonderful! Oh yes, all the time we're resting it's elevated and ice. I agree @uva55, this will be going on for a long, long time. But, it makes us feel so much better. It's much better than having to take pain meds all the time!

@sistersinhim you are so right, I took two Tylenol arthritis formula in the a.m. Yesterday and nothing else until night time I did take one Oxy because even though I'm sleeping I still get stiff and toss and turn some.

Seven Week Report will follow. First, I could not get into BS today. I got the error message "IP address rejected." I tried my phone and iPad and couldn't get in. I was beginning to feel like I said something wrong, then bingo I got in. Technology can be confusing. I was afraid I'd never be able to find out how all of you were doing or even say goodbye.

Today I saw my PT and he agreed with me that I could be discharged. However, he was a little concerned about the medial side of my knee that is still bothering me once in a while with a sharp burning pain. So I have no more appointments but he won't "officially" discharge me for a few weeks and I am to call him if anything changes. I have -136 flexion and the extension was just a little off. He said my patella was moving great and so were this and that bones. He got a little technical. The bottom line is my quad is still weak and a little slow at reacting. Functionally I can do everything except go downstairs in the normal way. Lately I've been alternating my feet going upstairs and it works fine. He gave me a list of ROM and strengthening exercises to do at home. He knows I am motivated and I will do them but not hurt myself. So now I have time to go to the pool if I want. I don't see my OS until mid-September. I AM ON MY OWN! Hurrah! My own goal is to increase the distance I walk everyday. I don't plan to go back to my personal trainer or attempt golf until I am 12 weeks out. The PT said he's talk to the personal trainer and tell him what I should not do - like rotate the knee with a weight or deep squats. I am so glad that I have a PT who I could trust and who was gentle with me. I know that there will be down days but I feel like the worst part is over.

You are on that high road and released and can do everything yourself! What a wonderful feeling. Your flex is outstanding. I'm still stuck at around 100. Guess I need to work a little more on that! It's just that darn stiffness! Your going down the stairs is super good, too! Your PT was a true blessing! My medial side is also giving me the most discomfort, also. If you find a way to get over it, let me know. Enjoy that pool! I hope to get back to the Y soon and enjoy that pool! I'll ask my OS on the 9th for my FU visit.

Amy Jo, I've enjoyed reading your thread and following your progress. You're an inspiration! I hope your knee continues to improve.

Amy Jo, what a wonderful report, I still want to be you when I grow up, your ROM is amazing. I need to start walking more, I stopped using a cane about one week ago, I walk without a limp, but I still have to remind myself to bend the knee as I walk, I was so used to having a stiff knee prior to surgery.

You have always had such a positive attitude towards your recovery and that has been so impressive to me, positive attitude is half the battle and you are the perfect example :yahoo::happydance::spin:

My knee at seven weeks. I wish these pictures weren't so hugh.

I love your tech skills. I could only get huge or thumbnail. Thanks. BTW I think you are very brave spending time here on "the other side." I think if I had done that pre-surgery it would have terrified me to read some of the reports. Although I do see that you had some prior experience with surgery maybe that's why you dare hang out with us. Anyway it's wonderful having you and I will be watching you after surgery.

I love your tech skills

"Tech" is what I did for the last 20 years of my professional life, and still do part time from home on a limited basis..., glad to help.

Ya as for being terrified reading.. HA! I started out pretty much at the most terrified rung of the ladder, with the horrific memories of my hip year from hell, so I could not get any more terrified, that I already am.

I hope that by reading my account you are a little less terrified. The worst part for me was the hospital part where I threw up and had urinary retention. I hated the nausea. The nurses kept yelling at me for getting out of bed without calling them. In hind sight they were so right but I was in a fog and knew I could walk the four steps to the bathroom by myself. I hope I will never have another surgery but if I do I would be so much wiser. You are going to be so well prepared!

Your scar looks great!!!!!

I agree with you the time at the hospital was the worst, and the nausea, at least there was no vomiting for me.

@dianehelen there is no doubt in my mind that you will do fine, how could you not? You have all of your BS friends to virtually hold your hand. The main problem you are going to have is what in the heck are you going to get addicted to on TV, you have seen everything already! hahaha

@uva55 what to watch on tv, should be my biggest issue...
I can always find something, between Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Showtime, Amazon, and other sources, Im sure I can find something.. OR just start Outlander from the beginning...

I pay $15 a month for this fancy gym which I haven't visited in about six years. Today I went for $700 pool therapy (what I have paid over the years). :) The place was very nicely remodeled, quite spiffy. I was able to keep Lady Mary/my knee under 52 degree water for 2 min. and 15 sec. Then I went to the warm pool and did all my stretches and practiced walking back and forth in the chest deep water. I didn't stay long because I didn't want to over do. I chit chatted with a lady there that was totally incapacitated for months with a foot she broke getting up from the toilet. A reminder to be careful. All in all it was a great experience and I felt energized but now I want a nap. I am now going UP stairs using both legs, down hasn't come yet. I'll know later whether the pool is a good thing or not.
