TKR The journey continues

The last two nights I've taken Tylenol PM to help me sleep and both nights I've been awake for hours. Last night I fell asleep after 4:00. So I'm going back to the half blue pill. PT was pretty strenuous too. Maybe I was over tired. Anyway only one more PT session left which will be next Tuesday. Another day of being a slug. :(

I'm with you about the Tylenol PM. It did nothing but keep me awake. I tried 2 Benedyrls, they made my skin crawl. I tried 1 of them and it was better. I take a half of a blue pill, too. It's the generic Walmart sleeping pill that's the same as Unisom. It works pretty good, but doesn't last long enough. My sleeping problems have been going on for years and have just gotten worse because of this surgery. Be a slug and enjoy it this weekend!

My blue pills is from Walgreen's. It's name is Doxylamine Succinate. It's really an antihistamine which is probably good because I still have the rash on both arms and a rash in an unmentionable place. I am thinking that my autoimmune system took a big hit with surgery. It seems that everyone who is around 6+ weeks feel that their recovery has ground to a halt. I keep telling myself that all will be well Sept. 1 when I hit 12 weeks. I have also had sleeping problems in the past but never this bad. Right now I have three books to read, a dog to wash, a dishwasher to unload and don't feel like doing a thing.

I totally understand the sluggish feeling, Amy Jo. Maybe it's a signal from our bodies and our knees that we need some down time. Take it easy this weekend and only do what you absolutely have to do (like eating, restroom, etc) It's funny how different we all are. I have taken a sleeping pill twice and both times I slept for something like 12 or 14 hours straight and even when I woke, I felt groggy and in a fog for the rest of the day. I guess they're like most meds and me-I never react well to them and my body doesn't like them. My husband always jokes that I'd make a terrible drug addict.......:loll:

Kim, I would be a lousy drug addict too! I got violently sick on Oxycodone and threw up blood (I think) in the hospital after surgery. I couldn't even tolerate Tramadol. However, I could work on being a wino. :heehee:

lol, Amy Jo. I don't drink wine or beer, etc, as I just don't like it, except to cook with, so I'd never be able to be a wino either. :heehee:

Hurrah for the blue pill. A wonderful night's sleep and I'm looking forward to playing this weekend. That is after I do my wash and, maybe, wash the dog. She is little and easy to wash.

Walmart sleeping pills are the same thing. I am so tired of not sleeping and it sounds like many of us feel the same way. I just can't get real comfortable. I don't do wine. Maybe I ought to take it up! Amy Jo, I hope you get plenty of rest this weekend and see some improvement. I seem to be stuck. My ROM appears to be the same, the stiffness is the same, my energy level is practically non-existent! Same old same old!

Sorry, about the same-old, same-old, Paula. It just feels like we should see more improvements every day. People ask how I am doing and I just say getting better very slowly. Tomorrow I plan to go to church. I'm not a regular church goer but a friend of mine planned the service and I am going to support her. She is the wonderful friend who was cooking great foods for me weeks 1-3. I left the church when there was a big argument and never went back. Then I am going with my male friend to hear some politicians duke it out. A man running for sheriff is a friend of ours. I will collapse when I get home. Lastly, the dog didn't get her bath today since I ended up getting the rusty water and rust out of the shower chair! One project a day is enough.

The dog doesn't mind at all!:heehee: One of my little dogs came n from my yard with poison ivy vine wrapped around her! What a mess she was. Of course the first thing she did was to run around the room with me chasing her. It was lots of fun.:doggie:

We are all moving towards recovery. It does go a lot slower than we would like. In the end you'll look back and be glad.

Amy Jo, you are so right about a slow recovery. I like your answer about getting better very slowly. It sounds like you have a busy day planned for tomorrow. Enjoy it. And wonderful that you're going to support a friend that has supported you so much! Be sure and don't overdo! @newlybiotionic, you should have gotten a video of you dog running around! You aren't allergic to poison ivy, are you? Can dogs be? Marilyn is extremely allergic and has to be very careful around all kinds of weeds.

Just checking in on you. All I do these days and nights is sleep so I'm a bit behind in my reading. It sounds like you're doing lots of 'normal' things these days. Good for you.

I am super allergic to poison ivy. If my dog came in with it wrapped around I'd freak out big time! I think I'd immediately take her to the dog wash and probably then clean my car and house and take a shower. I usually end up getting a rash sometime during the summer from petting the dog. I try to be careful where she goes when on the leash. She doesn't like to run around in my yard which is full of the stuff. I am grateful that she is a home body.

Last night when I was struggling to find a comfortable position I pulled something on the inside of the knee. Wow! Instant pain. So I got up took Tylenol and got an ice pack. This morning I thought it was OK until I took the dog out. It started really hurting again. I had to walk stiff legged home. That the old roller coaster or Lady Mary telling me something. Yesterday I was in the car for hours and didn't ice. Hmmmm. Today will be a day of . . . you know the rest of that sentence. :)

I hope that knee eases up soon Amy Jo. These knees are so sensitive, they've got a mind of their own!
Feel better.

Oh no, Amy Jo. I thought you'd be the one that wouldn't have any set backs. Something so simple as moving in bed and then bam, it bites you. I pray it gets better as the day goes on and you'll get back on your fast track. You have been such an inspiration to me and others! You have shown us that being in good shape before the surgery is the key to a good recovery. I'm sure this is just one of those backwards steps and you're going to get going forward again really soon! You are a strong, independent, fighting woman!

Floridagal, you have been the poster girl for recovery. Sorry to hear about that strange pain on the back of your knee. But you have had good flex and extensions, ability to walk, going out for fun activities. I'm sure you will regroup fast. What are you working on in PT? Do you feel you need it?
