Easy does it Kid. You will be back in that gym before you know it!

Lovely picture! Thanks for posting it!

Lovely day here so I've been tackling the garden. I find it very frustrating - I can't really do a golfer's reach because of my non operated hip. My surgeon has said that the one limitation he puts on his patients is that they cannot dig - ever.

Anyway, I took the time to take this picture of a busy wee guy in the garden.

- did he say why you can never dig? :what:

No he didn't. At the time I didn't think anything of it as I hadn't any other experience for comparison. It's only after my surgery that I've found that I'm the only hippie that seems to have had this warning.

I'll ask him when I see him again in September. He was quite specific though as it's the only restriction he places on his patients. My OH said she wanted it in writing!

Perhaps it's the pressure you put on your leg as you dig with it? (But I'm only guessing).
Maybe he'd let you dig with your left leg? :wink1:

I think that probably is it. Problem is, my left is due for replacement too. Still, if that's the only restriction I have with my new lease of life then I'm :loll:

I've just never heard of this restriction. I guess every OS has their "pet" limits. Let us know what he says after your followup.

MMM I have to say, I was so glad to be told I couldn't use vacuum cleaner for the time being.Great! first time I have got my grown up kids to hoover for me..! I think ironing is dangerous too, all that standing..:thumb:
Glad to hear things are going so well!

Hi CK
I had the same problem about being held back after my 1st THR 'cos the other hip was so painful & I had to stay on crutches right up until my 2nd THR.
Am now 8 weeks post op from the THR on the other hip & its amazing how well I feel now that I've got no pain in either hip.
When you have your 2nd hip done (I'm assuming you will be at some stage) you'll come on leaps & bounds - I'm doing exercises now that I wasn't allowed to do after the 1st op & they make such a difference.
Push the gym out of your mind & just concentrate on walking & your exercises! :thumb:

Kid, I know loads of people who have had hip (and knee replacements) that are ardent gardeners, some have allotments too!

I see my surgeon in September and I hope to go back on the list then. The pain from my left side is quite extreme sometimes and now seems worse because the right side feels so good! I no longer use my stick because my operated hip feels so good but my limp is quite pronounced because of the other side.

A couple of problems were identified in my run up to surgery. One was a cyst on the back of my neck and the other was low haemoglobin.

The cyst was removed a couple of weeks ago in a minor op. The stitches are out and it's all healing nicely.

"They" think that the low Hb is caused by gastric reflux - I've had it for years. However, to prove it I've to be scoped. Next Tuesday I get my endoscopy and colonoscopy. Today I stop taking my iron tablets and my reflux meds. So now follows a week of heartburn and acid.

I do know that it's all being done for the best of reasons but I'm feeling a bit battered and bruised and wish "they" would leave me alone for a while.

Moan over!

Was the cyst a sebaceous cyst? Very common in gentlemen of a certain age! :wink1:

But your cry that they would leave you alone for a while - that was really from the heart, wasn't it? But I never heard of GR causing anaemia before :skeptical: most curious!

My husband has coeliac disease, which was originally discovered with an endoscopy and colonoscopy for unexplained anaemia (although other tests had to be done to prove this).
But as you don't talk about other typical symptoms, gluten intolerance is probably unlikely. I would guess this is a 'just to make sure' procedure, but something I can fully understand you are not looking forward to!

Hang in there CK. At least your right hip is doing great!

Josephine - Yes, it was a sebaceous cyst. Glad it's gone.

Suzieslips - Interesting. The only symptoms that I have are anaemia and gastric reflux.

All will be revealed next Tuesday. I have received a package from the hospital containing a write up on what they are planning and two packs of "Moviprep" to ensure that I am "empty". Lovely.

Still, soon be over.

The week after that I have my GP, dentist and physio but the week after that I am going on holiday. Keep my eye on the prize!

Yes lovely....:th_heehee:
Best of luck on Tuesday Cappy.
Those aren't the most 'pleasant' procedures, but they should be pain free.
And at least then you can keep your eye on the prize and enjoy your holiday. :thumb:

I had my scopes today.

The day didn't get to the best of starts - was asked to report to the wrong hospital! Was taken immediately when I arrived at the right hospital (Cumbernauld - East Kilbride - Airdrie for any Scottishers here).

Without going into too many details, they were unable to complete the colonoscopy as the MoviPrep had not worked as well as it should. I have to return for another after treatment from a prep called Fleet - never heard of it.

However, my endoscopy found inflammation in the gullet and stomach and a duodenal ulcer.

I'm delighted that they have found the source of my discomfort. NSAIDs are responsible for around 5% of ulcers (apparently) so we'll see what the medical profession have in store for me next!

For those who enjoy the lighter side of life, Miami Herald's ever excellent Dave Barry writes on his colonoscopy experience.

Hi Cappy,
I'm pleased they found the cause of your anaemia. :thumb:
And thanks for the funny (but useful) link.
(hope you had the non-Abba colonoscopy by the way...:wink1:)

Here's a link about Fleet
'the best colon cleansing treatment ever' lol!
