THR Teri's Recovery-Hip #2

Hello @Bfam85

Very happy to read that your resting and icing has been successful! Getting back to were you were prior is a good sign. Patience is clearly the answer around here. Good things come to those who ice. :ice:

Hope you have a great week!

Hi @Fit4Family … I like that, "Good things come to those who ice"....how cute and true. Those of us online see your sweet spirit and positive presence on these boards, all while being patient with your own recovery. I pray that you have an amazing week of breakthrough healing! xox

Hi Terri @Bfam85
Hopefully that icing is still paying off... and your recovery can move on forward...

I was at the back of the queue when patience was dished out but these hips have certainly taught me a lesson!!

Take care... Chrissie xx[emoji3590]

Hi @Hoppy Nanny … Yes Ma'am, the icing worked and I have slowed down my speed from 60 mph down to 30...I do have to still be careful not to overdo it each day because I am feeling better. When I do too much, that night my thigh starts to let me know … Thankfully, we all can relate to the delicate balance between too much and just right. I do hope that you are well and that knee will also become a "silent" partner with your other new parts...I noticed your new date on your signature....October it is!

:hi:
Happy Four Month Anniversary!
Hopefully all is continuing to progress in the best possible way for you.
We're heading into a holiday weekend. The last hurrah of Summer.
I'm ready for some cooler temps, which are in the forecast for this weekend, along with some family time and BBQ. I hope your weather is lovely and your weekend all you want it to be.
Take care! :)
@Bfam85

Thank you so much for remembering me, @Layla and @Mojo333  You are angels on these boards to so many of us...

Life is beautiful!!! 4 months along, I am doing well. Matter of fact, even though I had some problems in the beginning, this new hip is coming through with flying colors now. Still though, when I do gardening or anything that is over and above my typical day, the thigh swells a bit but not to where it is a saddlebag :) :-) (: I see my OS next week on the 4th of September, and I'm looking forward to seeing how my implant is implanting :)

I do not do traditional PT … I just don't see the need to do things to my body that is not used in the normal function of life (leg raises, bridges, etc.) I mean, cooking does not involve doing a bridge!! hahaha

I am getting my range of motion back slowly as well. I have learned to just let time heal this wound.

Our son is flying up from Miami to New York today as he flees Dorian...We will enjoy this gorgeous early fall weather together as you are, Layla. Praying for all of our friends and loved ones in the path of the storm.. :praying:

So glad you are doing well.
Looks like Dorian might be a doozy.
90 and sunny today here...
..We will enjoy this gorgeous early fall weather together as you are, Layla

Autumn is now the appropriate term for the season for all hippys....
We NEVER have FALL weather!:rotfl:

Thanks for asking @Hoppy Nanny … my OS was very pleased with everything, and my next appointment is scheduled for my one year anniversary!

Yesterday, my hubby and our 2 close friends walked the Walkway Over the Hudson, which is a bridge over the beautiful Hudson River just north of NYC. This was my end of summer wish when I first had my op and I made it with flying colors. We walked the length of the bridge, had a beautiful lunch and then walked back, a total of 2.9 miles. Everyone kept asking me how I was doing. In truth, I said I felt tired by the end of our walk, but the hips were doing great!!! Yay! It seems so long ago when I was living with canes, and swelling legs and LLD, but so very, very grateful for my new hips. IT IS SO WORTH IT FOLKS!!!

I have a friend who is having her THR tomorrow and I pray that she does well. I also recommended she come on over and take a look on our boards.

Oh what a lovely update Terri... so very pleased you got your wish....& enjoyed your walk over the Hudson with those hips!! I’ve done that walk myself a few years ago & enjoyed it very much..

Sounds like your life is back on track ... so pleased for you...

Take care love Chrissie xx[emoji3590]

Teri! What a wonderful update, you did it! :loveshwr:
I need to make that one of my goals.. it sounds beautiful.

That would be fun!
So, would you say you LLD has evened out? Do you still notice it at times?

@CricketHip … As I told my OS, the gait is fixed, I walk level, straight and tall. But when I stand with feet together and knees straight, I still can "feel" uneven, where the left leg (new thr) is longer. He said that is fine, it will continue to even out. He explained there's still lots of healing to be done in the soft tissues. He measured during the surgery that they are equal in length, so it's a temporary issue that I can live with. The first day I stood on my scale with both legs straight was a celebration!

Also, when I look at my thigh and knee, I still see some swelling, but I don't feel it and so I don't pay any attention to it now. He said that's normal too.

How is the LLD doing with your new hip? Do you see some leveling yet?

That is great news, too. I will remember your thread whenever anyone is worrying about their LLD. Your's was pretty significant. What a good recovery for you, I just can't tell you how happy it makes me! Was so surprised when I discovered you were getting the second hip done just as I was scheduling mine!

My LLD is very very minimal. I go to feeling a little short at times, actually, but the soft tissue is grumpy and tight still, so I get it..
It's good to hear you say that your OS said there's still a way to go with your healing, too.
We all need to hear this, don't we?

Back to you! What is your next goal to enjoy?

When you were mentioning that you were going to have your second hip done eventually, I had NO idea that I was going to have mine done this soon! Just goes to show, we can plan and then "things happen" hahaha But it's been so nice doing it together again. You are so kind and encouraging to me always...

Yes, the LLD I experienced was very real and it made me sad; especially because I walked level right into surgery...not like my first where I was practically hobbling. It almost made me second guess my surgeon; but I was wrong. I actually just recently referred a dear friend to him.

So happy to hear your LLD is minimal; it too will level out with time. What a great surgery this is, isn't it?!

Oh my, my next goal?! Haven't gotten there yet; when I do, I will let you know!!!

Have you made a goal perhaps before the year's end?
