THR Superpath Surgery. May 10, 2023

The PA tells me that I get an EKG as part of my welcome to Medicare physical . I told her I just had one last month, when I got my hip replacement so I don’t need it. The PA tells me. “But its free”. I told her no again, just had one last month. She asked me 3 times, and then went to check with the doctor, who told her, no I did not need another EKG.
Well trained health care professionals, trained in the system the work for not anything to do with patient care!
At 7 weeks it sounds like you're doing fine. going in the pool and doing water walking and swimming will be good therapy.

Happy Two Month Anniversary, Jason!
I hope you're doing well, had a nice holiday and you're enjoying the Summer.
Take good care!

July 12, 2023 (2 months and 2 days after Hip replacement surgery )

Hi Layla, same to you....

I am now walking without a cane, but still have some pain when walking . I can see an improvement. I noticed when I first get up it is a little tuff to walk, but after a few steps , the walking improves. I only went swimming 2 times, because I noticed I still have a small scab on my scar, so I will wait until the scab goes away. Last time I saw the surgeon I know he thought I should be doing better than I am, but I did have a bad hip for 10 years, so this may play some part in my slow healing. I am also working on my flexibility and still can not tie my shoe or put my socks on the left foot. ( I use sock aid ). The last time I saw my surgeon he told me that I should do PT ( I was not doing it at the time ). so now I am doing PT. I think it would be amazing to walk totally without pain and to be able to put my shoe and sock on my left foot.

Total rubbish! Sounds like you are doing just fine at only 2 months out. There is no time line for this recovery. And if you had issues with that hip for 10 years pre-op, yes recovery will take a bit more time. Please don't feel pushed to do anything! Slow and steady works every time.

@Jason11 I only limped on 2 bad hips for about 2 years and it took me a long time to get legs moving in ways other than walking and climbing stairs. Took about 4 months to get left foot onto right knee and nearly 9 months to get right foot onto left knee. I think PT will be able to help you get those muscles into excellent working order .... and it will take some time.

It seems you're doing just fine, Jason. Many report those initial awkward steps upon rising as uncomfortable early on. It will ease given more time.

I'm betting you will. Some of us take longer than others. Hang in there, you'll get there.
Thanks for stopping by with an update!

August 11 ( 3 months after hip surgery )

I feel I am improving with every passing month. I limped around for 10 years before hip surgery and was using a cane to get around before hip surgery. Today I am walking without a cane, I don't feel perfect. but I do feel better. The first couple of steps are still a little ruff for me, but once I get going I am ok. I had a marked improvement in my leg strength, and my flexibility is getting better. I feel I still have a long ways to go on my flexibility as I still can not tie my shoe, or put on my socks ( without using a sock aid )

I was taking down my gazebo a few weeks ago and cut myself on a rusty piece of metal. Of course, I spent the better part of an hour looking up if I should see a doctor and get some antibiotics. I did have a tetanus shot last year so I was good with that. I did end up going to Immediate care and got a 3-day course of antibiotics.

I did have a normal visit with my surgeon scheduled and I asked him about cuts, and the way I understood him, he thought that unless it gets infected that antibiotics are not necessary. All the best to everyone.

Walking without the cane really is cause for celebration -- and you WILL continue to improve. It took me until about 8-9 months post-op to reach the point where my hip felt normal and I could "forget" that I'd had the surgery. You will get there too!

Oh no. I'm so sorry this happened to you, but sounds like you addressed it immediately and have things in hand.

You are doing great!

Hello Jason,
It’s nice to hear from you. Happy Three Month Anniversary!
It seems you’re progressing nicely.

I am sorry to read that you cut yourself. You were wise to address it quickly, it’s not worth taking a chance on.
Expect things to get even better over the next nine months, at least, maybe even longer.
Take care and stay in touch! :)

September 16 ( 4 months 6 days after hip surgery )

I am improving with each month, still not perfect but I was able to go to two events last weekend and walked around all I wanted. ( no cane ). in fact anyone who may have watched me walking ( probably not ) would not notice any problems with my walking.

A couple of problems still are lingering. 1. flexibility is still bad on the operated side, I still have to use a sock aid to put my socks on, some discomfort in the hip area. and when I start walking it takes a few steps before I can walk normally. before surgery, I was using a cane, and would not walk around much. I had a bad hip for 10-plus years.

I wanted to thank the Bonesmart staff for the Zoom webinar today, I am interested in the Pharmanex information the doctor talked about.

@Jason11 Thanks for the update!

The issues you mention sound totally normal - especially considering you has a bad hip for 10+ pre-op. These issues will ease with time. Don't forget, this recovery can take one year or longer. And most of our member report improvement well into the second year.

Glad you enjoyed the webinar!
