I am so glad you are doing better. I've been thinking of you often. I too am doing a bit better. I found out my leg pain was mostly due to having a pillow under my knees and my ankles. So now I only have one under my ankles. I slept a little too well last night and was surprised when I woke up at 11:00! We'll make it. It can only go up from here, right? Keep your chin up and keep in touch with all us hippies and it will soon be a distant memory.

Really good advice @copsham I was initially planning on having right hip done in December but this week has been too real for me. PT was due at noon and I had scheduled meds to be ready to go. Well a sub finally showed up at 3:45 which was just before medication was due. I had myself worked up and blood pressure showed it. Well the sub was excellent. I was able to get in and out of bed twice with the leg lifter. Which is a huge plus as I do not like being a burden. I demonstrated most of the exercises, except leg lift, and side lifts. He did those and my muscles were shaking. I had to walk once more and had gone to noodle leg again. I now know how important it is to say enough. I am at level 6 resting and 8 walking. I have a feeling my muscles are going to scream tonight and the rock band will return. Yikes. I was able to stand without holding onto the walker. Baby steps. So glad to show progress but concerned at what price. Stay positive, calm, need to put this in a correct perspective. Thank you for listening to me. Just getting it off my chest makes me feel better. I have to remember how limited my life had become. I think I just had a pity party. Hugs:cheers::egypdance::badspidy::hairpulling:

Fun Friday Follies....PT showed up almost four hours late. I was at the end of pain meds. Finally mastered getting leg in and out of bed all by self. Yeah! I now know the true meaning of saying no. When my muscle started shaking in my calf and a fireball burn in my hip, I should have said NO more. Anyway lesson learned. I actually liked him. So now I have a noodle leg again that I am dragging around..just to potty. Hope the hard rock band does not come a drumming tonight. Need to rethink just one stool softener as the magic just is not there. I have eaten fruit, fruit, and more fruit. I do think the PT's have mantras they say over and over. PT "do you ice?" Me "of course all the time, pointing to the ice bag on my hip". PT "well remember to ice at least twice a day". Okay......that was pretty much how all his questions went LOL. Thank you for all the good thoughts and well wishes. Sending them right back to you. PS Dang cat has taken up residence with hubby.

Hey @sunbunny! Snooty cat sounds familiar! My little dog has only just deigned to join me over the past couple of days, previously preferring outside (away from that madwoman with the big sticks) or with my husband (he who currently feeds and walks) She's not daft! However, she has decided that the little doggie steps I bought for her pre-op are OK after all for getting up on our bed so she can nestle into the duvet and accept dried liver treats and maybe a pet or two. She fears change, but has made concessions!
:dogsniff:

Good luck with the balance of BMs and SSs! I am still nibbling my bag of prunes (blick, don't like them any more, but they are effective for me), a few a day, and that seems to keep me on track.

@Great Aunt Janet Fickle pets. It is all about what can you do for me...lol..as I speak Smokey has taken over 1/3 of the bed. He is a little Fluffy weighing in at 16 lbs. well I have pottied so it is back to sleep. I hope! Running a very low grade fever. Will message docs tomorrow. Hope it is nothing. Hugs:ice:

Sunbunny, I drank one glass of prime juice after five days of nothing...no problem since, yeah!! Getting your leg in and out of bed was quite the challenge, I did the cane ho as well!! Leg lifts and side movements again what a challenge but it suddenly comes together! I didn't think I'd ever lift my leg again but guess what, I did!! Just want you and all the newest hippies to know IT'LL GET BETTER!!
Good thoughts and prayers to you!! Keep up the work!!

@PDA thank you. Yes small accomplishments bring us closer to our new normal. Hugs, thoughts, and prayers. Hmmm prunes.

Hmm prunes is right. Aren't prunes dried plums? If so would eating plums work?

You're so welcome! I was a bit concerned when you posted it, but I know I read in my paperwork to call the doctor when it goes over 101. Sending you happy and peaceful thoughts back! Oh yes, and "a hug around the neck".

Good morning all. Have had a time of it since the "unnamed one" put me back. I was feeling on the upswing but the rollercoaster ride has begun. My single goal today is to get a shower. And maybe not stress out hubby. I am sure you have been waiting to know a) did I win the lottery, b) somebody still has a Cadbury egg or c). I have conquered the flush handle. Happy Sunday!

@sunbunny - hello, one glass of prune juice does the trick for me - no more milk of
magnesia yuck cherry flavor), along with yogurt that has acidophilus in it. The antibiotics seem
to kill off my digestive bacteria in my stomach and I have to replenish.

1st week I had great difficulty, actually couldn't do it with bringing my operated leg onto bed. I have
a high bed and needed the husband to lift for me. Early into 2nd week figured out hooking left foot
under right foot and lifting. Then towards the end of the 2nd week used the cane to lift right leg. I have
used the cane to bring things closer to me, shut the car door, pull up my shorts etc.
I didn't invest in the grabber thing.

I had PT twice this 2nd week and have already cut the amount in half by this weekend. Took it
easy this weekend, tried to do more walking than PT exercises. Went grocery shopping for 1/2
hr and then came and iced. Will try again next week with PT, trying to listen to body.....

Very impressive. I did the foot thing on Friday with the "unnamed one" and have not had any energy since. Did get showered and dressed today. Keep up the good work.

Yay for the independent handle situation @sunbunny! Every little progress is heartening when you realise you have done it, isn't it? Eg I slept with my husband last night. Well, till my pillow shenannigans threatened to push him out of bed, when he retreated to spare room again - but we did make it to 2am! Joy indeed, especially now the nights are getting colder here ;).

Are you managing knickers? For my first fortnight I just left them off, too restrictive over my wound, but now I am decent again. :censored:

Update...had a bad case of weeps, no sleep, gloomy doomies, and in general why did I ever.....but finally decided to check with OS to step down on meds. Have gone to Lortab and finally slept two hours. Feel much better. The regular PT person came today and actually had a wee walk through the porch onto the deck. A little sore from exercises but nothing like Friday. Then the nice nap. My cat went bipolar today jumped up and bit my arm for no reason. So another chat with dr and antibiotic creme and a good wash. Suppose to have my staples out tomorrow. Yikes first look at my new scar addition. Hope new hippies, rainbow hippies, and those that take care of them are doing well.:kittymilk::tantrum2:

@Great Aunt Janet lol, knickers indeed. Of course I wear granny panties. Also stretchy knit pants. I bought them the next size up to allow for my new third butt. So glad you had sleepy with hubby. I am still using the hospital bed rental and hubby sleeps on the pullout couch. I could not get traction to pull myself up or move in our spare beds, and our bed is high. I have to use steps to get up. Soooo.i have the rental for a couple weeks. My greatest fear is not being able to sleep flat. I am not a back sleeper which adds to the sleep problems. PT said I would have to use a pillow between legs for a precaution for a long time when I was released to do so. And of course that adds to the anxiety of what happens if the pillow moves. I do have restless legs. And move quite a bit. But not my problem today as the big baby will try another night on the back. Stay warm.

Hey @sunbunny, I'm glad your feeling better. I had to laugh at the knickers thing. Before my first THR in November, I bought very comfy men's boxers. I almost gave them to my son, but forgot them. Glad I did because now I have them for this one. I am curious though. Doesn't your hospital rental bed adjust to reclining? Just wondered cause you said afraid of lying flat. As far as the pillow between your legs, I wouldn't worry too much about it moving. It is extremely uncomfortable to sleep on side without it. If it moves on you, I'm sure it will wake you up. I got so used to it that I continued to use pillow under my knees lying flat and between my knees on my side. It really helps with my lower back pain. Keep smiling sister, it can only go up from here.:thumb:

@Midchild54 yes it does and I do recline but don't want a habit to form. My husband's sister has had both hips done and can't sleep in a bed at all. She sleeps in a recliner every night. We like to travel and that would end if I could only sleep in recliners. Have enough limits and don't fancy anymore. These problems seem so minimal in the scheme of things and I feel bad that I have such anxiety over them. I have friends battling Parkinson's, cancer, and MS and their battles make my worries ant holes. Thank you for calming me about the pillow thing.
The lower back pain is yuck! Having pains in my left knee...wonder if it is the leg size difference? Hope your day is full of sunshine.
